        Re: Cheating...

Thanks Snuggles. It took me "cheating" to understand issues with two other vices I'm fending off. Booze and chewing tobacco.

When I decided it was time to do something with my drinking, I drank again a week after that. The experience intensified the knowledge that I had a real issue with booze. And that was close to 4.5 years ago.

Same with chewing tobacco. I initially quit on 5/1/2006. After my 6 month mark I decided it was okay to have a pouch of chewing tobacco. It was gross, it left me feeling poorly, and I hated it. Now I'm on six months again, but I really don't have the desire to chew tobacco at all.

This weekend, I almost cheated as well. I was going to cheat under the guise that I am starting the six week challenge thing, I'm getting use to induction style eating. I have to say, I haven't really "craved" anything "bad". That's what got me. I haven't really "craved" anything bad. To me cheating is having one of those induction friendly Italian Sodas or cream soda thingies or a failed "mock danish" I made and ate (it tasted good)

I don't think it's any coincidence that these "cravings" subsided mostly after the people here warned me about "Frankenfoods".

I remember doing my interpretation of the Atkins diet in the past with those Franken Food bars. I remember waking up in the middle of the night and eating one or two. Uncontrollable, really.

I'm not having this problem now. Because, I'm not eating the bars at all. Again, no coincidence, IMHO.

There might come a day when I say .... "I'm going to check out some Cracker Barrel pancakes".

But that day isn't today, and thank God and the people of this board it wasn't this past weekend. Despite the lies I told myself. "I really didn't do a clean induction anyway". I turned ketostix colors since day 3, I've lost some weight, some waist, and I've gained some inner discipline and character through leaving the frankenfoods alone and not tickling my sweet tooth, withdrawing a bit from caffiene and aspartame.

This weekend I didn't feel like throwing that away. I told myself. "When you hit your goal, maybe, but not today".

Just like I truly needed to re-learn how to live without booze and nicotine, I am going to have to re-train and re-learn how to live on this new lifestyle.

Just because I haven't acted on my compulsion to jump off doesn't mean I haven't thought about it. You jumped off. No big deal. Somewhere in the book Dr. Atkins suggests jumping right back on track.

I've preached enough I suppose. But I need to say this and recognize this for me just as much as sharing it with you, so I'm glad I rambled on a bit.

Yesteday's history and tomorrow's a mystery, focus on today.

          Great post WaronTypeII
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

            Re: Cheating...

If you are really craving something cold and sweet, why don't you look at some of the low carb recipe sites and find something that is induction suitable. Linda's Low Carb site has a Panna Cotta that is absolutely delicious, especially the Mint one. It will make you think you are being "sinful" but it's induction friendly (as long as you eat only one serving) and you won't undo all the good you've done so far.

It's really up to you, but I know you want to look terrific for that cruise.....so.....just saying )
