  • OWL vs extended Induction

I am back after a long long time. Over that time, I've gained more and weight, sadly and now am way over where I even started. Ugh! I've once again tried everything, but I am back here now where I KNOW I can do it and live with it as long as I'm smart and hold myself to high standards. Two things I KNOW I need to do: prepare my food for the week on Sunday so I have what I need (yesterday I made a couple of entrees, prepped some chicken for sandwiches, hardboiled some eggs, etc.) and say "no" to little cheats that have sabotaged me before. I'm confident this will work.

My question today is whether there are any statistics on whether it's better to stay on extended induction or to switch to OWL? Do people on one versus the other do much better for the long-haul? I'm in it for the long-haul so I'm thinking perhaps I should just start OWL as Dr. Atkins says after my clean induction.

I have a good 150 pounds to lose.

Thanks for your input and I'm looking forward to being here to give and get support.
    Losin' it!

    Re: OWL vs extended Induction

Those of us with lots to lose often do fine extending our induction period as long as we are happy with the food choices and dont start to feel deprived.
Personally I was happy doing induction for over a year till I decided to move into OWL.

On the other hand, many ADBBers found that extending their induction got boring and frustrating so moving to OWL helped them stay on-plan.

Also several of our current OWLers and Goalees reported that their weightloss increased once they moved to OWL!!

And the advantage of having plenty of time to conduct the great OWL experiment gives you the luxury of really learning how your body reacts to the different rung foods which can only help you once you reach goal and move to maintenance eating.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I did extended induction, something close to 30 days and I wasnt seeing very good results, but on OWL I started to loose a little bit quicker. I am a pretty slow looser.
I would say go to OWL, I mean its only 5 extra carbs and those are veggies.
      Good luck!

And who ever got fat by eating too much vegetables from the allowed list?!?

I stayed on induction for 16 days and then moved to the veggie rung. I've only been on it a few days but I'm really enjoying the extra veggies. I've been having a half cup of pumpkin with cream cheese, cinnamon and Splenda and it's a real treat.

I'm really nervous about moving on, but I agree that the veggies sure can't hurt anyone and it's more nutrients that I'm getting. I plan on sitting on the veggie rung for a while since it's basically induction with 5 more veggie carbs. There are a lot of veggies to try!

            Good for you, Dream
I added several 5 net carbs of veggies and stayed on that rung for a few months as I love veggies, and now know I can have 6-8 servings a day if I want without problems!!

I'm trying to decide what to do as well. I'm not a big veggie fan, as a matter of fact is was hard for me to get in what I did. I do miss having a V8 to disolve a tsp of fiber though. It was so small and thick naturally you could get that fiber down EASY
