Not saying its a good thing, because if your on this plan you should probably follow it the best you can...BUT there are other keto diets that DO work and they do carb cycling. Where you stay low carb, then you load up for a day and then go back down or something along those lines....of courses they use good carbs like whole grains, oats etc.
    Working on it...

Well..I did it. a month of strict induction and I binged like crazy in a matter of 5 minutes. All it took was confirmation from this thread:
        http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthrea...ge=5&pp=15.

whew, I managed to eat 3 ice cream sandwiches , a pb&j sandwich, french toast sticks with milk and orange juice. lol. It all makes sense now...sometimes I just gotta shock my body like that to get it motivated again. I'll try to keep you guys posted to see if i've lost any weight if your interested . I feel nauseous..

Well it doesn't make too much sense to me. Wouldn't it be better to get your calcium needs from cheese and supplements than from crap like ice cream sandwiches, fench toast sticks, etc???

Well, if that low-carb forum supports not following Atkins to the letter, maybe it's the way people do it there, but it's not the way we follow Atkins here at ADBB.

If you aren't interested in Atkins, you might also check out our board here at ADBB for non-Atkins dieters as well!

            Best wishes to you.

              Wow!

I guess when we're desperate for results we'll try just about anything. I've read discussions on purging, egg fasts, refeeds, fat fasts. I also got suckered one time into buying a stock after reading something on an investment forum. My point... always search for knowledge but follow proven techniques when dealing with your body - and investing!

I often wish I could reach through this screen and talk to each person searching for an 'answer' and help them understand that this plan works perfectly as written. None better out there.

Next Sunday marks the 1 year anniversary of my making goal (wait a minute, I just checked and it was 2 days ago!) so I have experienced results that confirm this WOE. Patience is a virtue - especially when it comes to weight loss - and Atkins has proven that over and over.

Please heed the advice of the successful losers here on ADBB! They are true inspirations.

:no Well, I "cheated" a bit last night, too. I wanted to see if I added some carbs back in, if the headaches I had been experiencing would subside. I didn't gorge on sweets; I had a small amount of rice, a cup of mongolian beef (I'm sure the sauce wasn't great), an eggroll, one wonton and a small handful of M&M's. My results? Well, I still have the headache, I'm still in ketosis and don't have any cravings. Hmmmm... not much findings on my "experiment" I suppose. My new resolve is to increase my vegetable intake substantially and up my water as well. I really had to talk myself into eating bad, I had NO desire...felt immensely guilty and weak. So much for "refeeding" for me!!!

No offense, but some of you here can really be snobs about this whole atkins thing. This works for me and i'm doing it regardless if you think it's cheating or not being 'strong' enough or not 'healthy' enough. I did that last night and I'm right back on induction this morning without any cravings. Can you honestly tell me I'm supposed to stick with a diet and eating crappy foods like sausage, eggs, bologna (and oh god, I forgot you get to have salad!!!<sarcasm>). I don't know about you, but salad and a cup of vegetables is not my idea of a satisfying meal. Maybe it is to you and that's great...i personally cannot stomach it for months on end...especially when i haven't lost a lb in a month.

Some of you take this atkins "way of life" waaay too seriously. It's too judgemental here. I will gladly remove myself and go somewhere where the members don't get tell you to leave because, god forbid, you ate a carb.

Jessica, whatever works for you, fine.
But looking at the list of people who have given "advice", which you saught, ie, Moochiecat, Perry, Desertthorn, Cleochatra, etc, these people know what they are talking about. Most of them have been at this a while, and as you say this is a "way of life". That's serious, especially for some people who have prevented illness from this Way Of Life.

You seem to have done OK so far with the "diet". Why the problem now?

Honestly, this is a way of life for most committed people on this board. They know that if you go back to the old ways of eating, you will put weight back on again.
If you do find the food choices crappy, what about moving on to OWL. Once you get past the first week or two of that, it is not just SALAD you can have extra.
Are you exercising as well? Drinking plenty of water? There may be many reasons for the stall, but we are only offering what we feel is good advice. Take it or leave it.

No one is passing judgement on you Jessica for not following the program, we're simply trying to help! In so far as "crappy foods-eggs,sausage,bologna and a salad and cup of veggies" goes maybe thats why you aren't losing. You are to have 3 cups of veggies/day, but not limited to salad only and all the protein you want which includes steak, fish, chicken, pork.....personally I do eat a lot of eggs-usually once a day in some form or another, but bologna-I have had once since I started this WOE and sausage I do eat a couple times a week if I can get freshly butchered without any additives, sometimes I will chop up a few pieces and scramble it in with my scrambled eggs that I keep in single serve containers for my breakfasts on the go. There's plenty of other veggies on the acceptable foods list besides salad. Personally, I love salad so I do eat usually one a day but I don't have to. Last week, I made a rolled chicken breast that had spinach, broccoli and cr cheese mixed together then rolled in the chicken breast and baked-my DH and dad thought they were eating gourmet! Get creative-check out the recipe section or Linda's Low Carb http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/ to see how you can switch up your menu. Maybe if you're eating a lot of processed meats like saus/bologna you're not getting in enough good protein to help your body get what it needs to lose!

YEP! EVERY TIME I have "cheated" ... I've gained back. I feel like cheating SO bad lately though but, haven't allowed myself to do it. But ... I'm bummed out over eating sugar alcohols. That's really another form of cheating with somewhat a lower glycemic index!!!

That post just shows me that sometimes people want you to tell them it is ok to cheat, and get PO when you won't tell them what they want to hear. On this board, you will always get a truthful answer, but it may not always be what you want to hear.

I think I have to reiterate what Moochie said. It HAPPENS but it DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK.

It's like Whooshie Pie. You could eat Whooshie Pie with 100g of horse radish on the side and you might not lose a pound.

And if you ARE going to cheat... why do it on junk food? You're on a diet dangit XD Eating that way is what gained you the pounds!!! Do it on fruit. Fruit fruit fruit. How I miss fruit ><

You dont have to you know!!

With less than 20 pounds to lose you should be thinking of climbing the OWL rungs in order to find your CCLL and what foods if any you will need to avoid in future.

Once you reach the berries/melon rung you can have those and in time will reach the other fruits rung so will not have to feel deprived for ever!

                                Re: cheating = loosing weight?

I know I have a long way to go before I reach the fruit rungs but .. I miss fruit as well!!!

As far as this board being judgmental, I have found it not to be. Sure, no one likes hearing things that alert them to the fact that they're TRULY doing something "against the rules" ... if you read the book, there are "RULES" - especially during induction. But, if you aren't feeling that the advice you are getting is good, then perhaps there is somewhere else who will be more accomodating to the coddling you're seeking. I, myself do NOT want someone to tell me that it's OKAY to cheat every now and then. I know for a FACT that the other times I have went about this and have cheated with only "one day" in mind, I have failed miserably! That one day ... everything gets out of whack and the cravings come back and it ends up in a binge for days and then most likely just quitting and saying "I'll try again next month!" .. meanwhile, between then and that month, I've gained back 20 pounds which includes 5 extra pounds that I did NOT have. Shew ... it's NOT NOT NOT NOT worth cheating for even one day. Not too me! But, if it works for you and you're not concerned with results as quickly as a lot of us are, then, you do it how you want. I am thoroughly convinced that the people are here on these boards because they KNOW what they're talking about and their stats and pictures prove it greatly! The food choices aren't the greatest when you're used to eating rich, luxorious chocolates, sugary sweets, breads and all the other stuff! But ... seriously - I know for ME - that once I got over the sugar alcohol trap ... I enjoy the creativity I find through different websites offering recipes, etc. It's kind of fun trying things that are new and ... actually LIKING them!!! The mock danish is a good example! NEVER in a million years would I have - a month ago - looked at that and ate it! And, then, I made one! Now, they make a great breakfast!

Anyway ... I'm rambling. But, to those who have done amazing in this WAY OF LIFE (not a fad diet!!!!!!) ... I commend you and APPRECIATE your input!!! Thanks!
THIS TIME and for the LAST TIME, I will do this!!
