  • Trying to give up Diet Coke!

I am almost done week 2 of induction and am not thrilled with the results. I lost about 4 lbs. I am wondering if all the Diet Coke I am drinking is slowing me down. I have decided to give it up completely and see if that helps.

My question is...is Diet Rite soda okay? And should I limit how much I have. I do drink a lot of water also, but prefer soda sometimes.

    Any advice?

    Thanks,

    Amy

The nutrasweet in the diet coke can stall you....as well as the caffeine. Diet Rite has splenda in it and is acceptable but remember to not have more than your 3 servings/day of sweetener.

if you are sensitive to only the sweetener the switch shouldd help you some folk are sensative to the citric acid in the sodas too.

I gave up my 24 can a day habit so I can tell you you are in for a headache from caffein withdrawal get some OTC caffeine free pain meds and hang on. you are going to feel so much beter when you get done.

my advice is to go cold turkey and drink fizzy water instead ...a wise woman told me one time "If you can not wash a sweater in it you should not be drinking it!" ...well yeah I drink coffee but water is the main beverage of choice and will be it is amazing what it does once you get used to drinking it through out the day.....I promise...water water water equals genuine weightloss and well being

I couldn't go cold turkey with caffeine, but so far I have cut back from 7-8 a day to one-two. I'm drinking at least 72 oz. of water a day (I bought a huge bottle I make sure I drink). I feel SOOOO much better! I'm going to quit entirely, as soon as I can feel really good just having one in the morning. I've had no headaches doing it this way.

          You can do it! :icondance

And dont forget your daily limit for 3 servings of sweetener - many cans are 1.5 servings each so you could only have 2 of those if you have no other sweetener in the day.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I used to drink about 3 litres a day. I haven't had any since I started this WOE but I could kill for one right this minute. I'm going bowling later and would really like to drink something other than water. I know that's my only real option but the Diet Coke is going to beckon me I'm sure :no

I used to drink a lot of diet coke, gave it up for the first two weeks of Induction, and am on continued induction, drinking 125 oz. of water a day and 2-3 diet cokes and no problems ... I've lost more weight in the last two weeks than in the first. Go figure, it affect everyone differently!!

Perhaps you can try those fruity waters that are carb free. I am a diet pepsi or diet dr. pepper kinda girl.. I do notice that after I drink it a few days I retain more water weight, than those days I leave it alone.

I had my last diet coke on Friday, Aug 22. Wanted to have the caffeine withdrawl over the weekend. Today is day 3 with no diet coke. It is harder to give up than any carb I have given up. Good luck to you.

Re: Trying to give up Diet Coke!

I drank two liters of Diet Coke and approximately one pot of black coffee everyday. I gave it up cold turkey and switched to water when starting induction over a month ago.

In my experience, the 'need' was psychological. It was an obsessive habit and part of my daily routine. Once I broke the habit, it no longer controlled me. I haven't even thought of Diet Coke or coffee since. They are no longer part of my reality!

                        Here's a quote. . .

"The power of a habit can often overcome any amount of logic, but a habit is a learned behavior. That means you weren’t born with it and if you learned it, you can unlearn it. When you experience a craving you're out of control and you feel as though you must have a particular food. " -- Paul McKenna

The key to controlling habits is through the imagination. When you think about the beverage you crave, you begin to feel desire. but what if you imagined it with some maggots and rat hair floating in it?

This one of Paul McKenna's behavioral modification techniques. I've included a link to his website below where you can watch a video for complete details on this and other techniques from the man who claims "I can make you thin".

i am a caffiene free diet coke fiend. I drink a ton of it, but I have been trying to slowly wean myself off of it. I can't have caffiene due to medicines I take, but i have a sweet tooth.

SODA does have sodium too.. maybe its the sodium.... if you read these posts enough you will see that it really is different for everyone... however, if you go off cold turkey for a while (like at least 2 weeks) then try ONE SODA .. and see how your body reacts.... its all a learning experience... we have to find out what our individual bodies can and can not handle... while changing our eating forever...
