  • Anyone else go thru this?

I have been doing atkins for about 3 months now and have lost a significant amount of weight, 33 lbs now to be exact. I enjoy atkins and I honestly don't believe I could have succeeded this far on any other 'diet'. Anyway, its like now that I've lost this amount of weight I find myself wanting to cheat more. I haven't met my goal yet, I still want to lose another 27 lbs. I really need to be careful, because I feel if I keep on this path I could easily go back down to the dangerous path I was on eating junk food alot. Basically I want to know if I'm the only one or is this common? I want to get back on track and stay there, so tomorrow Im going full on induction again. Thats the only way to get me back on the wagon, and nix the cravings. Hate Cravings!

Well, wish me luck and count on me coming by here alot, weather lurking or posting.
As always I'm very appreciative of this place and all the wonderful people that help everyone out.

Sounds like you are bored with extended induction and it probably the perfect time to move to OWL.

I agree - once back in ketosis start to move up the OWL ladder . this will enlarge your choices and help you be less bored and less likely to eat off-plan.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

i have been going through similar difficulties. i started atkins on oct 30, 2007 and successfully dropped about 30 pounds. my exercise is really good and i enter challenges each month and keep increasing my goals month over month. i think you should join sunny's how far can you go challenge. this is what i did...but i am not quite ready i guess. i didnt have such a great eating day yesterday either ......but my exercise is going extremely well....and sunny is great and if anyone can help me i know that she can. it might take me a little bit to get started there, but soon enough i will.

Re: Anyone else go thru this?

Boredom is inevitable on induction, even if you don't see that at the begining. I agree with the others, move on to OWL, get more variety into you diet and it will help enormously.

I can understand your fear of losing control - but that is what OWL is for, teaching you control and about what you can and cannot eat. If you never learn that the thing is pointless anyway, you may reach goal, but you won't have a hope in **** of maintaining. Induction is very easy, nice clear rules that work for almost everyone, but it teaches you nothing about the way you need to eat to stay slim. Move on.

I agree that it is time to move on up to OWL. You are half way to your goal. You need to start adding in foods & finding your CCL. Read your DANDR OWL section & get acquainted with the pre-maintenence section.

Try some new recipes & be adventurous!!! Some great recipes here!

Now that I am feeling a lot better about my weight I do feel more tempted to cheat...like somehow I have earned a piece of cake. But I don't do it. I won't reach goal by cheating and once I start feeling the urge I know it is time to move up another rung. I am now at rung 3 and eating peanut butter seems like a cheat...but it's not!

Re: Anyone else go thru this?

I had this happening to me in the first month.. The answer is simple. Like what everybody else here said.. Move up the ladder! I know how it feels.. "I am doing great on induction/extended induction, why would I slow my progress by moving to OWL.. I need to loose fast".. At least this is the way I was thinking. BUT, it is not a matter of loosing fast any more.. Once you feel that boredom, it can jeopardize your whole WOE.

PLEASE... Move to Rung-1 and don't stay even there long, I won't stay there more than a week or two then move to Rung-2. lifetastesbetter, you will be surprised on how enjoyable this WOE is and the weight loss you will continue to have. If this is bothering you, you can stay at 20 carbs day limit for sometime and then move the 5-carbs whenever you feel OK about it to find your CCLL/ACE.

Re: Anyone else go thru this?

To tell you the truth, I honestly never even thought that boredom may be my problem. But I can very well see how it is. Plus having that many of you all agree that it is time I should move onto OWL makes me think it is probably the right thing to do. I'll be getting out my DANDR and starting to read on it tonight. I honestly don't know much about OWL yet so now is the time to learn.

I definately would hate to get to goal and have no clue how to maintain it. The whole point of changing my WOE and WOL was because I wanted to change my life, not just lose weight to pile it back on again...and rapidly at that.

So thanks to you all, I will be getting out my book and learning about what I need to do to move forward.

Re: Anyone else go thru this?

I have also been on Atkins for 3 months and have lost 30 pounds. For me, the success I have had so far just makes me feel **stronger** in my commitment to reach my goal AND embrace this WOE permanently. I can honestly say that I have no real cravings and no desire to eat something off plan. I just don't see it happening. I feel so much better (both physically and spiritually) that I have no desire to go back and eat the way I was. I know there are some things that I used to love (like foccacia bread, tortilla chips, cereal, etc.) that I will probably NEVER eat again but at this point I really do not care as much as I thought I might.

I have just moved up this week to Rung 3 and it really opens some options like using almond flour. I am trying more recipes (for variety) but I really LIKE how I am eating now. Another advantage of moving up the rungs is that if there is a specific food you are craving you can probably find a "version" of it to try that is Atkins friendly.

I still have 45 pounds to go and it will take as long as it takes. I just know for sure that I will continue to learn more about this WOE as I go along and enjoy feeling and looking better.

Best wishes for your continued success!!

Re: Anyone else go thru this?

My question is... what if you like induction a lot like I do. Seriously, as long as I can eat steak, chicken breasts, broccoli, cheese, and salad I am happy! There is really nothing that I am craving. I am losing. So, do I have to move up to OWL? I have a lot to lose and I am quite content to stay on induction for a while. Is this a bad thing?

Re: Anyone else go thru this?

Lifetastesbetter... I too will join the chorus of "move to OWL". OWL is great... the extra food choices are very welcome and you still get to lose... sometimes better, on the lower rungs.
                          It's time!

Snap... you need to move to OWL to learn how various foods affect you and to find your CCLL/CCLM (critical carb level for losing/maintaining). This takes some time.
Also, you might not always want to eat steak, chicken and veggies, and socially, being able to eat a wider range of foods makes life easier too. You can still eat the foods you love. Plenty of room for those; indeed fat, veggies and protein should always be the mainstays of your diet.

Snap and lifetastesbetter, for me staying on induction too long was my downfall the first and the second time. It wasn't so much boredom as it was that I never really learned by going to OWL. Sally hit the nail right on the head!

I had almost 100 still to lose when I decided to take the plunge and move to OWL. It was the best decision that I could have made. There are so many more choices. This is where you learn to live in the real world, so that this becomes more than a diet. It becomes your WOE for the rest of your life. Move on and I promise, you will not be disappointed!

Thanks for the advice Sally and Don. To be honest.... moving on scares me a bit. I mean... what am I am doing now is working for me so I am sorta afraid to mess with it. I think I will move on next Monday. I gotta drag out my book and read it over a bit. I have induction down pat... but not the next step.
