I also bought that brand in Canada at Zehrs, which I think is the same company as Loblaws. I couldn't find it and asked someone in the health food area to help me.

amwin12I use coconut oil and really like it, please make sure you buy the Expeller Press Virgin Coconut Oil. I buy mine from a health food store it is in a clear glass jar
Why does it have to be Expeller? How about Organic Extra Virgin is that not usable?

I think it's all the same my bottle just says Expeller Pressed Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (try saying that 10 times)

I know Dr A has said that cold expeller pressed oils are the best option.

There is another form of Coconut Oil that has hydrogenated (sp?) oil in it so stay away from that.

              Re: Coconut Oil

I use it .. Its a nice oil. It doesnt seem to give me that nice brownness that olive or peanut oil does, but it is great for veggies or seafood. anything really , i just like the brownness i get from other oils on meats, but thats a matter of taste i guess. It has a little bit higher cook temp then olive oil, so thats nice too ..

I bought mine at whole foods .. but then i saw the other day that they carry it at walmat too ...

Try it out, see if you like it

Is the kind that is sold at Wal-Mart non-hydrogenated? That is pretty important to me. Thanks in advance for any info.

                    Re: Coconut Oil

When I was taking my medical classes, my teacher said that using coconut oil when frying foods is much better and it doesn't "hold" all the oil in the foods like other oils do. I tried it, cooked chicken in the coconut oil, which I found at my local Wal-Mart, along with the other frying oils, and I have to say, it's not as greasy, it seems lighter, and it does not taste like coconut at all. It's soft, almost like a creme. I haven't used it on my skin or anything, but was told it was good to help prevent wrinkles and tightens it up.

We DO have it in Canada but it is tricky to find! If you check the ethnic isle in Superstore I bet you can get it....its pretty cheap and a little goes a long way, if not there then Safeway. Good investment, changes the whole attitude of your food

                        Re: Coconut Oil

Hi all, I use it to make chocolate bars. Coconut oil, heavy cream, coco powder, and a bit of sweetener to taste (and almonds if you're in the nut rung). Mix it all together and pop it in the freezer. It's very satisfying and also very filling. It helps if you heat the oil up then mix in the coco. Oh ya, and don't use Davinci syrup, it makes the whole mess separate!

Thanks for the tip, I think I'll try that soon!

I've been really lazy and have just mixed coconut oil and cocoa powder together to make a yummy paste. If the coconut oil is just below the melting point it's easy to mix them with a spoon and still get a nice paste without it turning to liquid. I'm addicted.

Found mine at the vitamin shoppe. I swear by it especially when I make me chicken breats. And it makes the house smell like Hawaii. Me girls know when I am cooking with it, they'll run downstairs and ask, "Daddy are you burning coconuts again?". Gotta love em. God Bless, Joe

I love it. I use it topically.

I have/had eczema, and coconut oil has nearly cleared it up entirely. It also makes the skin so smooth and soft, with a nice sheen. Sometimes after I put it on my shoulders and my collar bone I think how nice it will make my skin look in a wedding dress someday!

                                Re: Coconut Oil

I read a couple of books about Coconut oil. I did a little internet searching.

I started using it about a month ago. I bought 2 kinds -- one for cooking and one for cosmetics. I rub it on my face, hands, and feet every morning and every night. My skin is smoother and I have a "sun" spot that has faded. My heels are not cracked anymore and my feet are visibly better.

As for cooking with it or eating it, it really does take away hunger. I don't know if it is so much because of the coconut oil, or the queazy feeling you get from eating a tablespoon of it out of the jar! hahahaha (imagine putting a pat of butter on your tongue! )

I love it. I keep finding new ways to use it in my cooking too.
