  • No energy

I've been doing Atkins for about 1 1/2 months now. I've stayed on the induction phase for most of this time with a "stray" day here and thee. Maybe only 3 so far. I have NO ENERGY! At the beginning of this diet (first 3 weeks) I use to work out everyday, I was up before the alarm went off and now I have hit rock bottom. I'm still loosing weight and I'm averaging about 1.2 to 2 pounds per week but I don't know why my energy level has gone way down. Any thoughts?

What does your typical day look like? Maybe your body is telling you to move on to the next rung.....

      Re: No energy

Well I usually try to eat something for breakfast whether it is a piece of cheese or a couple of slim jims, then for lunch I usually have a grilled chicken salad or a chef salad with some ranch dressing and for supper I have a piece of meat (salmon, chicken or turkey burger) A1 sauce for dipping purposes if needed and either a small side salad or some brocolli or green beans. And that is a usual day for me plus I drink tons of water.

to have energy on atkins I have to walk , or bike or skate for at least 30 minutes a day.
You have to move to get your fat furnace burning and once you do its smooth sailing.

Usually when I get the "sluggish" vibes I need to up my fat intake. I put butter on any and everything and I've also discovered that adding Coconut oil to more of my foods helps even more. Fat is your fuel so if you're not getting enough then that explains why you're lacking energy. Try adding more fat for a few days and see how it goes. I'd also recommend moving to the next rung, your body is probably ready for more variety.

                Re: No energy

I'll try adding more fat. I was so excited with loosing 18 pounds in a month and a half I kinda thought I should stick to induction longer so it will come off quicker. I have a hard time eating veggies because of my ulcertive colitis issue so I try not to eat to much of that or I'm miserable, however the meat, cheese and eggs are great. I started to take a vitamin today as well because I thought maybe I was lacking some and that's why I'm sluggish (I like that word) Cross your fingers and hope that my energy level comes back and that 20 more pounds drop off.

By the way, I notice that everyone has neat little graphs or charts at the end of their posts with there weight lose, how do you make those?

                  Re: No energy

Dr Atkins mentioned that we might experience this in the first week of induction. (I dont think he expected anyone losing well to stay on induction for very long)
there are a few people who experience fatigue or light-headedness during their first week doing Atkins. Most often this means that the process is going too fast for their particular metabolism-they're losing weight too fast, losing water and certain minerals too fast, and their bodies can't keep pace with these quick changes. One sign is ascent weakness: You feel weak walking up stairs. These reactions can be aggravated by hot weather, when you are already losing minerals through sweat, or by taking a diuretic. Obviously, drinking lots of water is essential.
Usually, I advise patients who have these problems to slow down the weight loss. They should add another helping of vegetables to their evening meal or one or two ounces of nuts or seeds. Although their bodies would almost certainly adjust during the second week, there isn't any good reason for feeling washed out and sickly for even one day. After the symptoms abate, go back to the lower level of carb intake.
I would suggest moving to OWL to see if the extra carbs and vitamins etc help.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
