Re: So Ready to give up
If you're "doing everything right" and not losing weight. You're NOT "doing everything right"...unless you're losing inches and not weight, or gaining muscle, etc...
It is not possible to "do everything right" and not see positive changes. Whether it be weight-loss, inch-loss, muscle-gain, increase in energy...etc.
From what I've noticed, is that when people aren't losing weight, and they think they're doing everything right, they're not. You can't just walk around eating whatever you want that you think has low carbs. There IS a such thing as eating too much on this diet, and there are things that can stall you even though they are supposedly "carb-free".
Also...one of the main questions I wonder about people who don't see weight loss is 'are you exercising?'...I mean, 20-40 minutes of cardio, 3-5 times a week. Sure, walking is cardio...but there are things that you can do that will increase your weight-loss/endurance...etc. that are more efficient than walking. For instance:
-get into a HIIT routine
-do walk/jog intervals
-change your routine (yes your body gets used to your work-out, and it can become ineffective)
-wear a heart-rate monitor and try to get into your target heart-rate.
When I fail, or I stop losing weight, I rant and rave in my journal or to friends "I hate atkins! it doesn't work!! im doing everything right"...but I'm only venting because I want atkins to be easy...i usually know what I'm doing wrong (ie: not enough exercise...drinking alcohol...ignoring sauces...eating out..)
If you genuinely don't know what you're doing wrong, and you're not just having a fit of self-pity (I'm not getting down on this, everyone has it at some point)...then do this:
write down everything that you do and eat for a solid week, everything! Post it in the forums here, and get feedback.
There is no reason why anyone and everyone cannot succeed on this diet if they put enough time and effort into it.
You all can do it!!!!!
edit: Also, look for the thread about how weight loss is not linear, and keep this in mind----
If I go for a period where I do not lose weight (3days-4weeks), but I am doing everything right, I remind myself that...as long as I keep doing what I'm doing, i WILL lose weight...I certainly wont gain weight!! Which I would if I quit. There is a cycle that a lot of people, including myself go through, some refer to them as "wooshes"...when you plateau for weeks, then all of a sudden you gain a couple pounds, and the next day you lose 4-5...this is very common.
The other thing that people need to keep in mind, is that Atkins is a way of life...do not think of it as something that you can "quit" whenever you want...YOUR HEALTH IS NOT AN OPTION. QUITTING ON YOUR HEALTH IS NOT AN OPTION. Do you quit your job on days you don't like it? No, because you know that having a job, and making money is necessary for living, being successful, and having a happy life, and being there to support your family.
Your health is something that you need for living, being successful, and having a happy life, and being there to support your family!
