(Legal) whipped cream is VERY calorie dense. I know I can overindulge if I let myself (because yes, it does satisfy the ice cream loving side of me)! The basic science of "calories in versus calories out" DOES still matter on this WOE so if you are consuming whipped, heavy cream daily, legal or not, you are likely taking in a huge number of calories which can certainly cause weight gain. I have found that anything I WANT EVERY DAY (cream, nuts and cheeses for me) might be a trigger food and therefore make it a point NOT to have it daily. Good luck!

Re: Not Working! Maybe I should do Low Fat?

I lost my two pounds that i regained, but that is it. aside from stapling my mouth shut, I am not sure how to get this weight moving. I must be one of those metabolically resistant people because I don't know what the heck is going on here. I am exercising, eating my veggies, drinking water and really following the program. I am about ready to try the Kekwick diet for a while to see if I can move some of this weight.

Your signature shows you've lost 10 pounds in a month. Sounds like it's movin' to me. If you're exercising, you may be replacing fat with muscle which will initially slow down weigh loss on the scale, but not on the tape measure. How are the clothes fitting?

I admit that I like to jump on the "metabolically resistant" bandwagon the moment I don't see my expectations being fulfilled, but then I take a step back and try to decide if my expectations are realistic. Atkin's does not claim to be the miracle diet, nor does he advertise on late night infomercials. 10 pounds in a month is fantastic. I think you need to take a deep breath and stop to smell the meat pie.

Look ... there is something called a plateau. Basically during a weight loss your body for whatever reason gets stuck at certain weights ... dont get discouraged. Once your body is at this weight for a while it is usually followed by a "Woosh" of weight loss. In any case dont focus on the weight ... focus on feeling better ... not eating all of that carb crap. Having more energy etc.

I have been stuck at 11 pounds for a while and have not deviated one bit from the plan except this weekend, we were out of town and I drank a lot of Diet Pepsi. HOwever, we walked at least 5-12 miles per day the past three days. I was all set to hop on the scale this morning and see a nice drop in weight and instead I was HORRIFIED to see that I gained 2 pounds! What is going on? Is this the Diet Pepsi or is it the extra exercise? Today I have been drinking water like it was going out of style--I am praying those 2 pounds come back off!

you are so funny Eric! Thanks for the pep talk--you are right on all counts and yes, I have been exercising a ton, so that is probably what is going on. My clothes are loose--in fact, I have dropped a size, so that is cool. I guess I have got to stop being so impatient in my old age.

Thanks Tom! I will not give up--no matter what. And I admit, I am feeling tons better than I did six weeks ago. I have a lot more energy and stamina too. I appreciate you guys!

Re: Not Working! Maybe I should do Low Fat?

I found that I need to follow the book to the LETTER. No variation whatsoever. It took me a couple weeks just to really get with the program, because every time I re-read the Induction, or visited these boards, I picked up another nuance that was slowing me down. I frankly didn’t think every little detail could possibly matter. But it does. This is diet science. What I’ve found is that by following to the letter the weight loss began only after a couple initial quick losses of a few pounds and a stall. Now my appetite is waning, and water is taking on a more significant-roll in appetite suppression. Another think, be careful with what you’re feeding the kids. A little teeny tiny taste of this is or that, just to see if it’s “ok” or because no one will notice, is all it takes to set you back for the day. And after a hard day of work, dieting and exercise, we all want the reward at the scale the next morning. Keep trying, and don’t let yourself fudge (kidding). You can do this!!!!
