  • Too much carbs and ketosis

    I am on extended induction.
    I lost 11 pounds so far and am on day 15. During the 2 weeks Aunt “Flo” was in town which I think makes a difference as well, but I didn’t gain anything.

    Anyway here is my question. Two days ago I went over my carbs limit. I had a sort of a meatloaf thing that I thought would be fine, but it had tomato paste in it…and well I went over the carbs. BUT I stayed in ketosis. Went right back to meat, eggs, cheese and salad the next day BUT have started dropping out of ketosis. This morning, despite sticking to induction perfectly and drinking 3 litres of water, I have come completely OUT of ketosis. Only barely a trace after having two weeks of dark purple. So does it take a while for the carb thing to register? Is my trace today because my carb overage two days ago? Or is something else up?

    If the sticks show any color change, you are in ketosis. Ketosis is like pregnancy...you're either pregnant or not and you're either in ketosis or not. Perhaps your body is now using using the ketones more efficiently and not spilling them into your urine. Also, are you eating enough fat?

        Thanks, Well I eat a hamburger patty and cheese for lunch with a salad and usually a steak with cheese and a small salad for dinner. I tuck into cream cheese when I feel a sweet need coming on.

        Doesn't the darker the color mean that more fat that is being burned off you body and flushed away in your urine?

          Darker often means you are dehydrated... any color means you are in ketosis

            I think color can be affected by when you last exercised as well. But it is true.. light pink, dark purple, its all good!

                  I dont know for sure but i would think that yes it does take a couple days for your body to register the sugars you ate... your body has to digest the food and all that good stuff ... But just keep with it .. im sure you will get right back to purple in no time if you are back on track with the eatting now ..

                    Thats the thing about cheating on this diet, it doesnt always show right away. Proteins and fats are slower digesting foods so i think they keep the carbs you ate from knocking you out of ketosis until the next day.

                      quick question...where does everyone get the ketosis strips and how are they supposed to be used? please forgive me if this is not the correct place to post - i'm a newbie

                        Ask at the pharmacy counter, just ask for 'ketostix.'

                        Then you just pee on them... count 20 seconds or whatever your label says and compare the color to the color chart on the bottle.
