  • STILL constipated

So, 2 days after my unfortunate (but cleansing) laxative experience, I'm constipated again -- nothing coming out.

I've increased my veggies for more fiber, added fiber (flax meal or inulin) to almost everything I eat, started taking magnesium supplements, and have been drinking water like crazy.

I'm probably up to 25+ grams of fiber a day and 100+ oz of water, plus 400 mg magnesium supplement a day.

Oh, and I'm also eating fat & oils to lubricate.

    I'm at my wit's end.

    diet coke makes me poo.
and it sounds like your eating too much fiber. eating too much will just make it worse.
on atkins i naturally only need to go once a day or once every other day, and its generally not a lot. i'm not constipated thats just how it is now. a lot of your food is being used as energy since you're not putting crap food into your body.

I agree with Kib -- you are overdoing the fiber. You used a chemical laxitive to relieve your system 2 days ago -- now you are filling your body with fiber ...

Since I started Atkins in January my bowel movements have changed drastically - I don't worry about how often or how much .... my body rids itself of waste when it needs to. I don't force it -- I use 1 Tbsp sometimes 2 Tbsp's of flaxmeal daily - that's it other than eating veggies - a mix of raw and cooked. I exercise daily, drink 150 ounces of water and am not having any problems - but I don't go to the bathroom everyday - sometimes not even every other day - my body knows when it needs to relieve itself.

I had a friend who kept taking laxitives, magnesium supplements and enema's when she was on WW -- she ended up in the hospital severely dehydrated and sick beyond words. It's not worth trying to force yourself to go.

The thing is that I keep GAINING weight instead of losing. So I feel like something must be wrong! And when I massage my colon, parts of it are painful.

          Re: STILL constipated

Parts might be painful because you spent so much time going just a few days ago. Did you do the spit test for yeast?

Also i noticed on your menu that you eat onions...onions cause some to stall. I cant eat them :-(

As someone else said, my bathroom time has also changed a lot. I'm just not going as much because im not putting the same crap into my body.

Just out of curiosity, how would I know if onions are causing me to stall? I don't eat a lot -- mostly just as flavoring. But I'm trying to figure out how I can find the food(s) that might be stalling me.

P.S. I'm doing the spit test for yeast in the morning. I didn't know about it until after I had eaten this morning.

try using onion powder instead of raw onions -- just an idea.

                  Thanks, Carole.

I don't care about onions that much, per se. I could certainly live without them. I'm just trying to understand how you would know if one particular food were causing the stall.

                    Re: STILL constipated

The only way to get some idea would be to drop the 'suspect' food but eat everything else the same for a few days and see what happens.

However it probably would not prove for certain as many of us have unexplained weight fluctuations for reasons not linked to what we eat.

Have you tried a stool softener? That's what I did for a couple of days. Docusate Sodium might help make things a little less painful for you.

well, since your problem is very slow weight loss....not unexplained weight fluctuations...try cutting things out one at a time till you find the problem.

                        good luck
