    Re: STILL constipated

When I get constipated, I eat lots of spinach (or any salad green). It always works. I can't eat too much spinach on a daily basis because then it works too much and I get diarrhea.

        Re: STILL constipated

ps abigail the way i figured out what was stalling me was just picking the suspects (cheese, sausage with fillers, bacon with nitrates) and took them -all- away for a week.
on top of that i worked out a -lot- that week, and i lost a pound a day for about 5 days.
then, i slowly re-introduced cheese in tiny amounts, and kept up with my weights and how much i ate. to my knowledge so far, i can get away with about 1-2oz of cheese every -other- day, so i never have cheese on days that i dont work out. i've never even got back to the sausage or bacon because i don't miss it, weirdly enough. i try to go by KISS (keep if simple stupid!) and eat as whole and natural as possible, and it pays off.

Anyway, point is, to find out what food you think is keeping you from losing, pay super close attention to everything you eat, how much, and double check that its all in the allowed amount. i mean i was eating 2 cups of spinnach a day because i thought it was on the salad list. i double checked when my weight started stalling out, and even though i've known the rules of atkins induction since 2005, i still messed up lol! fixed it, and everythings been good since.

          Re: STILL constipated

          Hello,
Exact same thing happened to me and it lasted 2 weeks. I was used to going 2 sometimes 3X a day....BIG and heafty BM's. But it really makes sense that I would not be doing THAT anymore, because of the fact that I am not eating all the grains - toast, rice pasta etc that I used to eat on a daily basis. That stuff really bulks up!

I was really uncomfortable - (with pain too)...like it sounds you are.

I realized that I needed to cut waaaaaay back on the the cheese, and what I thought was a lot of water, after measuring, was not even close to what the gals on these boards are drinking! So I upped my water to 140 oz's a day. OMG, those 2 things worked.

          Good Luck

            Re: STILL constipated

            SUCCESS!!

I'm finally regular again! I just had the healthiest BM I've had in weeks. I've been regular for 2 1/2 days now.

The trick for me was to really increase my fiber. I'm up to 3-4 TBSP flaxseed meal a day and 4 tsp psyllium husks.

The easiest way to eat this has been to mix together 2 TBSP flaxseed meal, 2 tsp psyllium husks and a packet of stevia, then cover with water and microwave for 1 min. I add a 1/2 TBSP of coconut oil while it's still really hot. The result is a very filling cereal.

I also took Miralax for 2 days, which probably helped to loosen some stuff up. My stool never got 'watery' as the package indicated it might -- it's just normal again rather than tiny & hard. I didn't take it yesterday, and I'm still normal today, so I'm hoping that the kick start was all I needed.

That's great news that you're finding relief.
May I suggest adding on a Pro-biotic with your supplements each day. It made a world of difference for me. Just a thought. Also, Magnesium is a great supplement for constipation. Softens the stool therefore makes it easier to go. Carlson Magnesium capsuls is a great choice.

                  Re: STILL constipated

Thanks. I am taking probiotics twice a day -- and magnesium.

On other threads, I've been criticized for taking too much fiber -- too many carbs. I'm not sure whether to keep doing this or not.

                        Re: STILL constipated

I had this problem on Atkins once, and tried the bran-with-water mix/corn husks/whatever, and it was nasty! I scrapped that in a hurry.

I eventually found something that worked like a charm. I bought some plain old mineral oil and took one large spoonful at breakfast and another before bed. That's it.

One caveat, though - since mineral oil isn't technically a "food," I'm not aware of its carb-count, if it has any.

In any eventuality, give it two days max, and you should have no problems afterward. I didn't.

                        Good luck!

I always take metamucil when it doesn't come out. Try it, it really works!

I feel your pain! I have tried everything the book tells me to take and that doesnt work for me. I have to give myself an enema every 3rd day or I will end up bleeding from trying to poo.

I never have that problem and i am a senior, more prone to it than you youngons,
I take enzymes every day keeps everything running smooth and soft.
I buy either Megazymes (www.enzy.com), or Maxi zymes.
Trust me this is great stuff it breaks down food like your bodies natural enzymes. No after taste or side effect just smooth comfort every day.

For me, the big thing has been upping my fiber intake with Psyllium Husks and Flaxseed Meal. Plumbing is working really well now.

I recently started taking multi enzymes as well.
