  • How Many Pounds = A Size

Someone said to me that every 10 lbs. is a size. I don't think that's right. I'm thinking more like 25 lbs. Anyone know? Thoughts? ha

Well I am thinking 25 lbs sounds about right. I have heard that 10 lbs=a size. Maybe 10 lbs = a size down in the small sizes. But I was a tight 16 bow I am a loose 16 or tight 14. Since I started losing weight I have lost 27 pounds. So maybe had I been a well fitting 16 I would be a well fitting 14. I guess I still have a ways to go beofer I get in my old 12's. I am taking it one day at a time.

Personally I dont think it can be pigeon holed at all. I think it varies from person to person.

We all know that scales can be evil liers!

I agree Rich - many people have posted that they have gone down a dress size or more while losing no weight at all.

That's a tricky one. I think it just depends on your body shape. I was a 20 and now i'm a 16 and i've lost 27lbs. So I'd say it just varies.

I would agree varies by person on the inches lost . I went from a 16 to a 10 and only lost 40lbs in 2003. IM back now trying to lose another 15lbs and the inches going faster than the weight I may have to go shopping for the summer.... :joy

I agree, it all depends on the person.

It varies from person to person. Here is a perfect example. On the Dr. Phil "Bride Show" there were six women trying to lose weight before their weddings.

                      ------------- size - weight

                      Woman #1- 20 - 245
                      Woman #2- 22 - 226
                      Woman #3- 16 - 191
                      Woman #4- 16 - 180
                      Woman #5- 20 - 217
                      Woman #6- 24 - 280

I myself weighed 228 and was size 18. I could get into 16's, but they were tight.

Also I have noticed that not everybody sizes their clothes the same. I can fit into a size 14-16 in some brands of slacks and a size 18 in others

Remember also if you work out then you are building muscle and may gain on the scale but lose inches. I was a size 18 when I started and stayed around a 16 for the first 30lbs I lost then I really began working out and lost 35 more and now i wear a 9/10.

You also have to remember height as well. On a short person, 10 pounds may be drastic while on a tall person like me, 10 pounds hardly bats an eyelash. Ive lost 40 pounds and have pretty much stayed the same size in clothes

How can you figure. I have found that depending on the clothing and the manufactured, sizes all vary. I may wear a size 10 from one store and a size 12 from another. I think the clothing industry is just trying to fool us all and keep us confused. Like the scale I think sizes in clothing lie too!
