  • Question about oopsie rolls and such.

My mom made some oopsie rolls and invited me over for lunch. I guess she had made them flatter and I thought I was having one cut in half, when in actuality I was having two of them. Then after I had finished eating her half a cup of chili she had served me with the sandwich, she told me that she had put a half a teaspoon of cocoa powder in it. Then afterward, I had some strong cravings for carbs. I did also have quite a bit of cheese, once I factored it all out yesterday too.

Do you think it was the extra cheese, oopsie rolls, or the cocoa powder that made me have the cravings? or a mix of both? I ended up having some MUP late that afternoon to deal with my cravings, but that just added more sweetener and vegie carbs in me.

On a side note, I woke up with a fever last night and cold symptoms with it. That might have been part of the equation, along with Tom coming to visit in the next week or so. (TMI)??

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Sounds like it could be a bit of thisu or that. Nothing really jumps out at me. Have you noticed any cheese sesitivities before? I would actually suspect the chili if it was really tomaty.

I don't think it's the cheese or the cocoa powder or anything else. I think it's your human nature. Carbohydrates have been a major component of your diet for many years and are one of the body's main sources of energy.

I strongly disagree with those who think that cutting out carb-rich foods, artificial sweeteners, etc. will completely eliminate cravings. When we drastically suppress a major food group, our bodies are constantly telling our brain that we need as much of that food group as we can possibly get.

No real idea what caused your cravings but if you want to cut down on your cheese intake but still eat 'rolls' you could suggest your Mum makes revolution rolls next time, which have half the cream cheese of an oopsie roll. (The reason Cleo called her version an 'oopsie' was because she mistakenly read the recipe for rev rolls as having 3 ounces of cream cheese instead of 3 tablespoons )

To cut the cheese down even more you can make the revolution rolls using mayonnaise instead of the cream cheese.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Ooooh i didn't realize that! Thanks for the info Elizellen!!! I will pass this on to my mom and let her experiment more. I told her that if she would make the rolls, I would buy them off of her since I don't have the time to make them. I am a full time student with 3 kids and my hubby is usually gone away for 6 weeks and only back for 2. So this will be helpful for me, and give my mom some extra money for any foods she needs to buy. A win-win situation.

Re: Question about oopsie rolls and such.

I am now making my revolution rolls with mayo instead of the cheese because I tried a batch and frankly I couldn't tell the difference, not in taste or texture or baking timing. So, why use up the cheese carb counts on these and save it for veggie intake instead is my way of approaching it. I love these things, only I can't stand the sweet ones, only savory and with a nice well rounded 1/4 teasp of dill and garlic powder plus a good few shakes of salt - they are just wonderful that way.

I can't stand them when they have been stored in the fridge - I will "air" them out for easily 4 hours and I do wrap them individually in a paper napkind and put them in a baggie - but still that texture gets too moist or something for me. So, I stick them under my broiler for a few minutes. Both sides until they just begin to turn a deeper golden. They are brought back to a nice texture again for me that way.

In the mornings I will sometimes "toast" them a deeper color under the broiler and put a bit of butter on top - that with a few raw green beans, just delicious to me and completely satisfying.

Three Tablespoons of mayo instead of the optional cheese is what is used. I recently read somewhere that protein powder will give them a more "bread" like texture and baking them in a muffin top pan improves the texture and shape, I'm absolutely going to try both but I am honestly completely happy with what I have right now.

The only thing about this diet that really, really bothered me was the lack of bread. I didn't know how long I would be able to live a diet lifestyle with the lack of bread and it's uses for sandwiches, toast or buns.

That particular problem is now completely solved for me with these rolls.
                    I'm a happy camper.

Ok ... I'm confused and need guidance.

I made my first batch last night and they came out (a) almost fragile and (b) very 'cream cheese' tasting.

                          1. I see that some use Mayo instead of Cream Cheese, yet nobody mentions the cream cheese taste. Am I alone with that?

                          2. I had a burger with two today (top/bottom). It held up pretty well, but was awfully 'crumbly'. Which of the ingredients gives the roll more durability?

Thank you very much for your input(s)!!

                            Hi.
It is going to be a little more crumbly each day as they dry out, and remember, this is not a bread, it is more of a souffle.
                            It is very delicate.
I can't say the taste of mine are this or that, they just taste good to me.
Also beware-if you put them in a plastic bag, it gets too soggy, and may possible mold.
