Re: 4th week of induction weight loss has stopped
I know for some it takes adding the additional carbs from phase 2 to get the weight loss going again. Also remember you may lose inches but have no movement on the scale in some weeks. You did say you've lost some inches so it's still "working".
Then of course the question of what you are eating. Is it pretty much the same as before? Are they legal foods in the right amounts?

Re: 4th week of induction weight loss has stopped
you are doing very weel. Scale weight loss hesitation occurs for all weight loss plans after the initial loss. You are still shedding body fat becasue you are seeing those inches of body fat leaving.
The no scale weight is because the human body for complicated biochem reasons doesn't like to collapse inward upon itself so it stuffs the places body fat is being removed from with fluids. the fluids are denser so the scale doesn't change but the inches do. At some point the fluids will exceed your body's tolerance for them and generate a chemical to remove them and you will get an over night loss of severl pounds. Low Carbers call that a visit from the whoosh fairy.
hang in here and keep working your Atkins both the eating and exercise parts as you shrink your body.by the book atkinseer

Why are you doing Induction for so long?
What's your goal weight?

Re: 4th week of induction weight loss has stopped
I went to OWL rung 1 after two weeks of no weight loss and as of this morning, I have lost 6 pounds in four days. All I did was add 10 more v1eggie carbs for a total of 25 net carbs.....mostly veggie carbs. I was scared to move to OWL rung 1, but everyone told me that the extraz carbs would jumpstart my system because my body was thinking it was being starved on too few carbs. It worked.......be brave

Thanks everyone! That kind of makes sense to add a few more carbs to jumpstart the weight loss again. I can see the body might think I am starving myself so it is hanging on to what i want to let go! I will be patient and wait for the whoosh fairy to visit me over night!
I am staying on induction for a few more weeks because I have 55 more pounds to lose and i wanted to see at least 15 gone from induction. The rest I will take slowly.

Re: 4th week of induction weight loss has stopped
I dropped 4.6 lbs. this past week after gaining over 2lbs. in week #4 ... stick with the plan! ... some things that i think are helping me are:
- drinking 8+ glasses of water
- 1 splenda daily (occassionally 2-3)
- no diet sodas
- no processed anything
- no fear of eatong fats
- if hungry I eat a protien/fat snack
- limit cheese (and do not eat daily)
- exercise
- no caffeine (after week #2 I added .5 or 1 cup of regular coffee once or twice a week)
... and the most effective change for me this time around after many failed repeat attempts at atkins apperas to be that i changed from net carbs counting to just carb counting ... i know ADBB is basically hard core net carb but i have to say - for me at least - now that i am focusing on carbs (like in 72 version) i am doing better than ever ... YMMV of course ...

Atkins-si - the cheese thing helped me too. I had to limit it to a few times a week instead of having it as a daily snack. Now of course it could just be coincidence but it certainly seemed as if it was a problem food for me.

Induction isn't about losing a specific number of pounds.
Induction is about getting your body ready to lose the weight ... on OWL.

Re: 4th week of induction weight loss has stopped
Folks with alot of weight to lose can benefit by staying on Induction/Extended Induction ... Dr Atkins personally gave me that advice ... moving up to OWL too quickly , at least for me, is a stall, depression, gain, cycle ... that has been my experience ... so extended induction and carb counting (not net carbs) has been the path for me so far this time ... not for everyone of course ... we are all different ...atkins-si

Same here, if I don't see any weight lose then I feel like I am a failure at this, so I too am taking Dr. Atkins advice from his book. He says that if you need to stay on the induction phase of the diet for more than two weeks that it will be fine, but don't stay on it to the point of never learning the importance of life time maintenance.
I think that maybe it is my cream in my coffee that has stalled me and starting tomorrow morning I am cutting the coffee back out.

Re: 4th week of induction weight loss has stopped
The benefit of staying longer on Induction is to correct metabolic imbalances:
"People with high metabolic resistance can benefit from doing Induction longer because it gives them time to correct metabolic imbalances they may have developed over time." (Ch. 13, DANDR 2002)
The fact that you've lost 9 lbs on Induction shows that you have an average-low degree of metabolic resistance... so that is not one of your issues.
That being said, there's nothing "against the book" with following Induction for more than two weeks. However, it might not be the best strategy for you.
Also, X lbs lost is not one of the reasons given by Dr. Atkins for moving to OWL.
In your previous Atkins attempts, how far in OWL did you go?
If you've lost inches, then you are not stalled. A stall was defined by Dr. Atkins as four consecutive weeks without loss of pounds or inches.that has stalled me"Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."

Re: 4th week of induction weight loss has stopped
You feel like a "failure", because...?if I don't see any weight lose then I feel like I am a failure at this
Is it because you are eating a variety of nutritious vegetables that will improve your health even if you don't lose weight every week?
Or because you are eating healthy fats and proteins that are also good for your health?
Or because you are not eating sugar, white flour and other junk foods?
Or because you are exercising?
Weight loss... as in, pounds on the scale, is not the only measure of success. And, whether we like it or not, there will be times (days, weeks and even months) with no pounds lost. This is something that can happen regardless of whether or not one stays on Induction or moves to OWL.
I believe the real reason why you are not considering OWL (at least yet) is that you are afraid that you will stop losing when adding 5 net carbs worth of vegetables. Not that you are losing now... As it was probably explained somewhere in this thread (can't scroll down enough posts), some people actually stall when they stay on Induction for too long, likely because they are not getting the right amount of nutrients from their Induction food choices. Being low in certain nutrients can slow down your metabolism... which is exactly what you don't want to happen when you are trying to lose weight and be healthy."Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."

Re: 4th week of induction weight loss has stopped
Hi Tralee63,
Quite recently, I read a dieters comment about her stall and weight loss. It remotivated me unlike anything I have ever read before. If I don't see a loss, I'm done....I'm headed straight to Mcdonalds (hehe, Millerb).
This dieter lost her first 50lbs fairly quickly and then NOT 1 SINGLE POUND after that. However, in the 6 months that followed, she went from a size 20 to a size 12. I would never have ever gone the distance with that. The number on the scale has always been my measurement of success or failure. If I'm failing I quit. Always.
But, because of her post, I am going to finally go the distance. The numbers on the scale will never rule as my measure for success again. So...AWESOME TO YOU FOR THOSE INCHES LOST! That's what were doing anyway, right? Trying to get smaller?
That old saying.....If you always do the same thing, you'll always get the same thing.....well, I say, if I keep dieting and following the principles and the eating right and the exercise.......then I should get the same thing. A smaller me! And you will, too.
Best of luck to you. Hang in there.
Janet
