Re: 4th week of induction weight loss has stopped

Thanks Janet! My husband did tell me yesterday that it looks like I have lost some weight in my face, so if I keep getting comments like that from him and others then I guess everything is still going good. I need to learn to stay off of the scale and quit letting it rule my life.
Georgina, have you or anyone taken any of the supplements that Dr. Atkins suggests to take in order to help get the right nutrients to continue the weight loss? I am curious if taking supplements would help me. I am not a big vegatable eater, but I am trying to teach myself to eat the right way and I am sure this is part of my problem.

have you plugged your foods into fitday? if so check your nutrtional reports to see if you are deficient or not. you can add your vit as a custom food and eat one daily to have it there too.

Many folk jump at some of those suppleemnts but in truth unless you are defieicnt you will not need them. Dr Atkins in one of his books says he assumed all his overweight folk were deficient from their previous eating so he recommeneded supplements for everybody

I only take an iron-free multivitamin and fish oil supplements.

The only things that interfered with my weight loss have been undereating calories, carbs, and a few food intolerances that I discovered along the way (one is store-bought mayo).

Again, if you are losing inches, then you are losing fat. Instead of looking for pills to add more nutrients to your diet, better move to OWL and add more food variety, since many of those nutrients can be found in food.

Thanks for the thought, atkinsgal08...I was planning on doing induction for more than 2 weeks (because I want to lose as much weight as possible in the beginning) until I read your reply. I have only completed one week on induction, but thanks to you, I will not do more than 2!

            Hmmm...the Socratic method to Atkins.

OK, back to long-term Induction. Personally, I think most people should move to OWL 1 right after Induction. More veggies is a good thing.

Re: supplements, I am one of those supplement people. I spent a lot of time reading in DANDR, Dr. Atkins Vita Nutrient Solution and researching to come up with what works for me. I believe it's important to do some homework before just loading up on supplements beyond the basic non-iron multi.

Re: 4th week of induction weight loss has stopped

OK, team, I have read this thread, and I need a nudge in the right direction.

I am in my 8th week of Induction (OK, reading this thread tells me I should be moving on, but I LIKE the restrictive nature of induction!), and I have only lost 16 pounds (14 of it in the first 2 weeks) and a notch or two off the belt. Here is a representative day up to dinner:
Breakfast: 3 HB eggs (1.8 carbs), 3 Bob Evans sausage patties (ZERO carbs according to the label, only brand that has zero), 12 OZ black tea, with caffeine, no sweetener or cream.

Lunch: 2 cups chicken or tuna salad (0 carbs), with 1 stick celery (1 carb), and 3 cheese slices (3 carbs) and 2 tbsp of flax seed (1 carb). I know the cheese is questionable.

Dinner: 2 chicken breasts or 2 tilapia filets or 2 hamburgers, or 2 salmon filets, or a pile of shrimp, etc. - all pan fried in butter or grilled (normally zero carbs). 2 cups of lettuce (., 4 small mushrooms (2.2), 1/2 cucumber (1), 4 oz full-fat Bleu Cheese or Ranch dressing (2 to 4 carbs). Maybe another serving of cheese or a serving of almonds (1 to 2 carbs).

Snack: I have read here that I should avoid the Atkins Advantage bars, which is heartbreaking, but I still have one once or twice a week (2)- sometimes just a half will do. Or I have a serving of nuts if I didn't have one at dinner (2), or I have pork rinds (0).

I am usually under my carbs by a little, and NO NOT knowingly cheat at all (even for 4 days in Manhattan!).

I must stay on Atkins for the radical changes it has made in my life - it 100%, immediately eliminated my binge-eating ways, curbed nearly all my cravings, and has made me a much happier person. I HAVE to stay low carb for the rest of my life, but I need to lose the weight/inches, too.

I am restarting my excersize program, but I just really need some help to get back to the losing. Any recommendations would be welcome. I am starting to get frustrated and, as mentioned above, really have no recourse but to stay on the program to keep me in check.

Re: 4th week of induction weight loss has stopped

Actually, Dr. Atkins invites folks that have more weight to lose to stay on induction a little longer if they deem necessary. In my opinion, you should read the chapter in the book after the induction chapter. I believe it is number 13 or 14 - it talks about when to move on from induction and the quantitative factors that you can use in making that decision. You know your body - read the chapter and interpret the signs to determine which direction to go.

                Good luck!

Re: 4th week of induction weight loss has stopped

How much do you have to lose. Stats are very helpful for us when we try to figure out what is going on
Breakfast: 3 HB eggs (1.8 carbs), 3 Bob Evans sausage patties (ZERO carbs according to the label, only brand that has zero), 12 OZ black tea, with caffeine, no sweetener or cream.
Water? No butter or fat added?
Lunch: 2 cups chicken or tuna salad (0 carbs), with 1 stick celery (1 carb), and 3 cheese slices (3 carbs) and 2 tbsp of flax seed (1 carb). I know the cheese is questionable.
Again this is a bit short of veggies. You probably will lose better if you skip some cheese. Add some real cleaner fat and add in more veggies. 1 cerery stick is not giving you enough nutrients

Most of your carbs should come from beggies but it looks to come from cheese and cheese dressing so you could changed it up a bit. I think that would help

Snack: I have read here that I should avoid the Atkins Advantage bars, which is heartbreaking, but I still have one once or twice a week (2)- sometimes just a half will do. Or I have a serving of nuts if I didn't have one at dinner (2), or I have pork rinds (0).
Yes those bars can be stallers for many. So you have to decide if it is really worth it to you

So my general recommendation to you is
More fat in the form of oil or butter
                  More veggies
                  Lots and lots of water

                  I hope that helps

Try cutting out the nuts. They aren't allowed until OWL Rung 3 anyway, and I found they definitely stalled my loss.

Re: 4th week of induction weight loss has stopped

Wow, thanks for all the advice!

Liv, I drink 32oz water at lunch and 16oz with dinner and 16oz later that night. I think I am on track there.

I don't have butter or fat at breakfast, other than what's in the sausage. I eat at my desk at work, so I am not sure what I should have. Any suggestions?

I agree that I need more veggies at lunch. I'll get on that right away.

I guess I'm just a little confused since I did Atkins 72 8 years ago and had some success...this limiting cheese and Advantage bars is really frustrating since they were the big treats for me back then. So no nuts, no bars, limited cheese...I would love some 'treat' suggestions!

Oh, and I have a TON to lose. I am 36, 6 feet tall and started at 296 after losing 50 pounds on a low calorie diet and keeping it off for 2 years. I just am so sick of being hungry and I was stalled out, so I got back into Atkins. it is working great on the 'not hungry' front, but not so much on the weight loss.

I am currently 280 and my next big goal is 250, but I had planned to keep going well past that after my big 14 pounds in 2 weeks of Induction, then I stalled out completely. Booooo!

Again, thanks to you guys for your advice - please keep it coming! Treats? Snacks? Butter/fat in the AM? I am open to suggestions and very appreciative.

Re: 4th week of induction weight loss has stopped

64oz of water is the minimum you should be drinking (that goes for everyone, not just Atkins). 1/2 your body weight in ounces is usually a good rule of thumb for water consumption (if you weigh 300lbs > 150oz of water).

As far as "treats" go, to me, the word "treat" is associated with something we shouldn't or normally don't have. The point of Atkins (and mostly Induction) is to curb the need to for stuff like that. Try some veggies for some snacks, or make some chicken and cut it up into strips you can pop in the microwave (assuming you have one at work). Any induction friendly food can be used as a snack, sometimes you have to get creative.
