  • Do you eat regular Bacon or Nitrate Free?

I just came back from the supermarket. I looked at all the bacon brands. There was only one kind of Bacon that was Nitrate free and it was almost $6 bucks! The other bacons are not nitrate free and of course list in the ingredients there is sugar but no carbs.

Since Dr Akins wants us to get bacon with no Nitrates, it it a LAW?

The nitrate free bacon is way too expensive and even the quantity is less inside.

Are you guys eating the bacon that is the regular kind with the sugar added in the ingredients?

I see alot of people on here eating bacon and I wanted to get a pack of it tonight before the new york tri state area snow hits!

will the regular bacon stall you? they ALL have sugar in the ingredients

I eat regular bacon. Of course, I generally have it only on weekends ... and to be honest, I haven't really had it except a few times in about a year.

Not because of the nitrates ... just lost my taste for it.

I found the nitrate free to be way too salty.

Where I live Kroger's carries their own brand of sugar-free bacon, so thats what I buy, I don't think it is nitrate free but its sugar-free, then again I don't really eat alot of bacon anyway, I like leftovers for breakfast

We eat regular bacon. We can't even get nitrate or sugar free here. Eat it daily and it doesn't seem to be a problem.

I've stopped being concerned about nitrates since reading this excellent article, based on scientific fact:

My husband and I eat nitrate-free, sugar-free bacon. We buy it at a store called Wegmans. It tastes way more delicious and is much healthier. Not all stores carry it, but check around for prices. Ours is $5, which is very expensive to us. However, I consider it a fair trade for all of the junk food and sugary starchy stuff we used to buy.

We also don't buy deli meat or hot dogs because of the nitrates. Not healthy, not natural, can cause stalls. We buy Applegate Farms hot dogs and they are to die for! I definitely recommend nitrate-free!

Is there a reason many of you have bacon sparingly, like just one weekends. Do you find it stalls you?

I would assume it's because bacon is loaded in sodium which can cause your to retain water.

I bought some last time I stopped at Sam Club because it looked so good, I didn't notice sugar was an ingrediant until I went to use it. Next time I will look for sugar free, and even nitrate free if I can find it and the expense isn't too drastic.

I've been getting the "natural" Oscar Meyer hot dogs that are nitrate free. The way I look at it is, if the option is there and reasonable I will go nitrate free but I'm not going to go out of my way.

In my case it was because my husband only cooked it on Saturdays.

I would have it when we went out to breakfast on Sunday, too.

Then I just sort of lost the taste for it.
