Can I eat avocado all by itself or am I suppose to have it with something? I like it with a little salt on it.

Re: Avocado
Ah yes, my new found favorite food--love them, I just had a bacon, tomato, lettce, and avocado, roll up with a very low carb wrap oh yeah plus sour cream I gave it 5 out of 5 star rating, they're great on any taco/mexican style dish, great with chicken! Yes and even plain with a little salt. Enjoy

Re: Avocado
That is only necessary with vegetables, to avoid eating carbs without fat which might cause blood sugar problems. Avocados have over 80% fat so should not cause problems.Originally posted by Mfit4me View PostGreat! I just thought that I had to combine it with something else. Thanks!Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

You mean "fruit", not vegetables, right?Originally posted by Elizellen View PostThat is only necessary with vegetables, to avoid eating carbs without fat which might cause blood sugar problems. Avocados have over 80% fat so should not cause problems.
Even taking into consideration that an avocado is a fruit.J.

Re: Avocado
I usually have 'some' fat with veggies too, rather than eating them plain as a snack. Also Mfit4me is on induction so would not be eating the fruit yet I assume.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Avocado
It's explained in Chapter 8 of your book.Originally posted by thefemalegreenday View PostSo its wrong to eat vegetables without fat?
When you eat higher-carb vegetables, such as yams or winter squash, do so along with proteins and fats. They will slow the passage of carbs through your digestive system and minimize their impact on your blood sugar.Adding some fat and/or protein to a salad minimizes the impact of carbs on your blood-sugar level."Get action. Re: Avocado
I really haven't had one since I've been on Atkins but I'm sure substitutions would make it legal. It's usually made with avocado, condensed milk, milk and ice.Originally posted by liv View Postis sweet avocado shake Atkins legal. You could experiment with the amts but avocado, heavy cream, ice and splenda would work. Or maybe even do the eggnog shake but add in some avocado.

Re: Avocado
Dr. Oz made one today on his show and used avocado, LF milk and honey or agave. Sooo...I'm thinking avocado, milk/cream or soy/almond milk and some sweetener.
I've seen recipes that used plain yogurt and sweetener and sometimes added strawberries (frozen unsweetened ones would work very well) and a little cinnamon and nutmeg.
