  • Alcoholic Beverages ???

    Hi All,

Does anyone have any recommendations for alcoholic beverages to drink at bars or clubs? I don't like beer, so that is not an option.

    Thank you,

Whiskey of any variety, neat, on the rocks, or with club soda

Vodka and diet soda (or on the rocks if you are that type)

        Gin and diet tonic

Dry Martini (vermouth is just a fortified wine, and present only in trace amounts in a dry martini)

        Rum

        Wine (count the carbs)

        Cognac (count the carbs)

RUM? Really? I always associated it with Sugar. that was my main drink before Atkins..hmmmm I'll keep away from it still though. Don't want old habits coming back!

Rum is distilled from sugar, but no sugar remains in the finished product. Same as bourbon comes from corn, and there are no grain/starch carbs in the finished product.

                Hey,

I always liked Mike's Hard Lemonade. They just came out with Mike's Light, which has 2 Gram Net Carbs per bottle. I think it is as good as the original and is very low in carbs. You can have five or ten bottles and still be within your carb range for the day. Give it a try.

                    Hey Roxy,

I will check tonight in my fridge for what it is sweetened with. There are 12 carbs, but 10 of them are sugar alcohols, which don't count.....in most peoples' opinion. I haven't had the original Mike's in a while, but I didn't think the Light tasted much different from what I remember. It's tasty.

Be careful of Mike's lite if you are sugar alcohol sensitive! And, alot of people are! It can be a very unpleasant experience, I believe the sweetener in Mikes lite is Maltitol.

Actually, I think in most people's opinion, they DO COUNT the sugar alcohols (especially in the bars, shakes, etc.) The jury is still out. Some people are impacted by them; while others are not, so it is better to be safe than sorry.

I went on a fishing trip last weekend and had 10 Mike's Light over a two day period. I came home on Monday and had lost 2 pounds over the weekend and was still in ketosis. If the sugar alcohols did count for me, I don't think that would have happened. Everyone's body metabolizes differently and my body seems to be ok with sugar alcohols. I don't agree on the better safe than sorry theory. I would agree on the try it and see how your body reacts theory. The bars and shakes are not good, IMO, but the Mike's Light is very tasty.

Alcohol is a dieuretic -- it will cause you to lose water weight, you will not know the true effects of this until a few days later, not the next day.
