    Re: Maintenance Support thread

This thread was very helpful for me...read it in its entirety! It is nice to see others are struggling with similar issues and concerns as myself. Not that I want others to struggle bur it makes me feel not so crazy. I feel like I have another 10 to 15 pounds to go but have decided to "hover" here, at my current weight and give my body a chance to adjust simply because it refuses to go any further at this point. Maybe it needs some time to adjust after such a significant loss! Anyhow, maintenance is a daunting task. Thanks for all of your awesome information. I am glad to have you guys!

hey itp, good of you to join us. i think sadie and i thought we might be the only one's stuggling with all of this. appears that we are not alone.

i've had some of those feelings too. the "my body must be happy here syndrome" and i was just upset with it all because it wasn't the weight i wanted to be at. sadies comments about the super models and such really hits home.

glad you got to read all the way through. maybe by the end of this we will have gotten back in the groove.

you know it's amazing, i agree that maintaining is much harder than losing. It's almost like you no longer have a 'goal' or 'target' and it becomes different somehow...
Very true, but you need not think you don't have a GOAL just because you've reached a certain weight. I hit my weight loss goal 3 years ago and, at first, I thought, "WHAT NOW?" I was so used to celebrating every pound lost along the way, that when I reached goal, it was hard .. AT FIRST... then I decided if I was to keep the weight off LONG-TERM, my LIFETIME GOAL had to be fitness. Now there's a goal you never fully achieve .. ITS A WORK IN PROGRESS FOREVER.

Fast forward to today .. nearly 4 years on Atkins and I'm still staying dedicated to my workouts!! I've discovered that the REAL GOAL is the daily commitment to staying in top physical condition! And its been an amazing thing to watch my body shape up and become toned and fit! It just continues to inspire me to push myself harder!

Even though I am goal in terms of weight, there isn't a day that goes by I do not have to think, contemplate or work on myself. Maintenence is very tough when there is no goal in mind besides long term health. It was much easier every week to weigh in, do measurements, and log stats in my journal. Now, since I am here, I don't do that but I may have to once again.

Trust me, we are on a very tough road... but it is worth it. If wieght loss/maintenence was easy, the world would look a lot different!

I find journalling to be a big help to me..I like going back and reviewing what i've added/removed from my diet when my weight starts to creep up.

But you're right..it's worth it. I'm trying very hard in maintenace to stop depending so much on what the scale says, but go more by how my clothes feel and how I feel. Easier said than done though LOL.

lol, yeah, I'm finding out that I have to stay on top of things during maintenance almost as much as I did losing. I'm staying with my brother and SiL, and while they cook lowfat, they have a treadmill, so I think I'll try to fit some time on that in while I'm here. Or, since it's above freezing here, I might even take the dog for a walk *gasp* lol

hey girls! i have to do some catching up here.
is everyone finding a little inspiration in here? a bit of motivation?
i was gone practically all week and only exercised one time and that was not a full work out.
jacks room had nothing but a concrete floor. kinda took the wind out of my sails. i am thinking i should join the challenge for this 6 weeks. even if i say 3 days for the week that is much better than what i have been doing. i am beginning it is all about accountablitly for me right now.

I walked a mile and a half on the treadmill, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't negate all the Christmas candy and carb-laden foods I've had since I got down here. I'm planning to get back on track early next week, though.

laura, are you doing any challenges? have you ever done the 6 week challenge?
i realize that i can't win one of the ribbons in there but i always seem to do better when i have to report my exercise.

btw, the walk may not make the balance even out but it is a start and it beats just sitting which is what i have done practically all day.

i should have asked this before....
is this "i don't want to, i have no motivation" feeling that tends to come on during the later part of the year? i chatted with my sister last night and she has gained about 15 or so. she has been struggling with things too. she doesn't do low carb but has lost weight in the past and has been pretty active but lately it's like the wind has gone out of her sails and she mentioned that she just didn't feel like doing anything.

hey perrybobman, you're not using a snowblower on the white stuff are you?

answer me this: did you ever do a 6 week challenge here on the board? if so, did it seems to keep you motivated on reaching your goal?

I had too many chores to do on the board to join any challenges. Besides, I get lost when I read them. Maybe if there weren't so many?

And, yes, I use the snowblower at times, but it does not work well on ice or when we get over 4".
