    Re: Maintenance Support thread

    Hey Guys!

Jimmie, it probably has something to do with the time of year. We start getting a little weary of the year, and the weather's not as great (you can't use that as an excuse!). So I think it has a lot to do with the time of year, but you can't all of a sudden flip a switch on New Year's can you?

no we can't flip the switch at all. if it were only that simple.

i truely can understand how being active or the lack of activity would slow you yankees and canadian yankees down. i lived up north so i know the problems with getting out and sometimes it's just nice to cozy up with a cup of coffee and an afgan. you are right though, it is much harder to use the weather as an excuse down here although we do have cold days. they are cold to us. besides, i blame of all of my woe's on hormones.

perry, you mentioned maybe we have too many challenges? i don't know about that so much. everyone finds a little group that likes to do certain things and i guess it's a challenge between themselves. i won't negate anything that makes people get up and move. i was even thinking that those of us that are struggling make this an official challege between us! lol (ah...come on....just one more challenge?) i suppose we are doing it unofficially here. i see you are posting you snowblowing and i have made a few comments, laura has run herself crazy with some things.

i joined the 6 weeks challenge this time around. did i already say that?
i only committed to 3 days a week but lately this will prove to be quite a feat for me, since i have only done one day a week quite frequently, lately.

so what have we learned here?

        Re: Maintenance Support thread

There are times when I log in and see the majority of the 'new post' page with challenge posts. That underscores their value to the board and to everyone who gains something from them. For me, I just get confused seeing so many different ones and don't have a clue as to which one I'd join if I was inclined. It also doesn't take the level of activity I had during my weight loss phases to keep me at my current level so I choose to motivate myself - physically. I come here for the mental motivation!

hey are you calling us mental!?! lol just kidding, you know that........

i understand now what you are saying as far as the challenges go. something for everyone i guess. i like the biking and have stuck with that since jack bought it for me.

i remember a conversation that sadiejen and i had about the level of exercise we would have to do to maintain. it is encouraging, once again, to see that we won't have to work out 7 days a week once we get to our happy place.

perry, do you work out enough to still be building muscle? are you still losing inches? is the belt still getting loser?

I'm with you in that boat...I haven't paid much attention to my carb counts the past couple of days, xmas parties etc..I've promised myself I'm going to get back on track tomorrow morning..at least for the week. I just feel so bloated and lazy now.

I think a challenge here would be a good thing too Jimmie. I'm not big on the challenge board, i find it hard to remember to post etc..i'm kinda scatterbrained..i tend to forget .

I agree Higgies, I think just the weather, stresses of the holiday's etc can really tend to get us down... I was gonna get back on track in the new year..but I figure it's better to start now. I doubt i'll be perfect over xmas..but I figure staying on track most days is better than none.

              Re: Maintenance Support thread

JimmieJo, it's called 'maintaining' for a reason! I don't work out enough to build muscle. Now, this is me speaking ... There are days when I fall into ketosis (naturally) and I can feel the belt loosening. I don't make a conscious effort to low-carb all the time, though. I know how most foods affect me, which foods are low/high in carbs and how to minimize the affects of a sweet treat. If I had to work hard at maintaining I don't think I would have lasted this long at goal.

I also do carb-out weekends where I eat what I want - even the bad stuff - and low-carb the next week.

My experiences might not be the norm but I will never discount those who can consistently low-carb every day. Your mileage may vary. And, I know that you'll find some happy medium after you arrive at your goal.

                Re: Maintenance Support thread

I did a challenge way back when I first joined this board. Did great the first week and then totally bombed. I really don't like exercising, so 'outside' motivation doesn't really work. I'm absolutely for the challenges, but they don't work for me.

My boyfriend is going to start Induction after Christmas, so it'll be a lot easier for me to stick with it. Just have to figure out a way to exercise that doesn't seem like exercising...

oh my goodness laura! that may be a whole new thread!

i don't know if i could really do a carb care free weekend. i think i would slip back into old habits and instead of eating a piece of pie i would eat 3. i feel this is the way it would be so i just don't cross the line. that is comfortable for me. i use to be a doughnut freak and i started looking like one! the old saying you are what you eat certainly was true for me!

i am feeling more motivated. i did do 32 minutes on my bike tonight, 5.1 miles.

edited to make that last sentence sound right. it's late. i shouldn't type when it's late.

                    Re: Maintenance Support thread

Well, I don't really suggest it, because it is easy to just let it keep on going. However, one size doesn't fit all, so you have to do what you're comfortable with. Do a little soul searching and be honest with yourself about how you'd react (not you specifically, but in general). Some people aren't ever going to be able to give up the rules for the weekend because it won't be just for the weekend...

that was my thoughts too. i know i wouldn't stop once i got started so, for me, it's best to not start. i've been hungry for cherry pie for a very long time. not the nasty kind with just the glazy pie filling. that's not a real cherry pie. i want my mom's with tart cherries. my fav! if i ate a piece of that i would be doomed to eat the whole thing in a couple of days. my low carb hat is off to you, perrybobman, for having the willpower and motivation to adjust easily to how you do all this. it's cause you're a guy and all. it's all just so easy peasy for you guys. [[[[laughing and making excuses here]]]]

it was touched on a bit:

would you guys be interested in doing a support exercise thread for goalies? i figure it would have to be in the challenge or exericise forum but limit it to goalies and not state just exactly how many days but just a check in place so we can keep up with how each other is doing. we wouldn't have to explain what we did but just that we did do something? interested?

we could continue this thread when things aren't going so well so those that are interested but not posting can maybe glean some help.

I'll join the challenge Jimmie, I think it's a great idea..and if it's limited to just goalies the group shouldn't get too out of hand..that's my problem, i seem to get lost in big challenges. I tried one and didn't last long.

very well, sadie jen. we will do a challenge for goalies. no hard fast rules but a motivational challenge. lets really try to support each other and get these bottoms in gear. do you want to start this january 1? get through the holidays and the busy-ness of the this next week? that would work for me. i am doing the 6 week challenge but i can post in both places. hey! shouldn't we get a badge or button or something cool for reaching goal? i would think so!

i think i have my next project! oh graphic people, i am coming for you!

i was hoping you would go for jan 1. lol

good deal then. on the 1st we'll get a thread started in the exercise forum. lets do it there. not as much traffic as in the challenge forum. this will be for those who have reached goal. how about anyone that is within say 5 pounds? will that work for you? i mean, we are actually not quite at goal if you look right at the numbers. i think we could give that much lee way. what do you think.

we can be very polite and ask that only those who are within 5 pounds and finding it hard to stay motivated join in. this will just be a place to sort of check and track each other. don't let me over run anything, here. if you got ideas on this lets hear it. we can have everything ready to go by the 1st.

sadiejen, this thread was a good thing. from the looks of things i think it was helpful to more than just a couple of us.

have fun on the ski slopes!
