  • Frustrated!

    Hey All,
Is it unheard of to want to go back to Induction for awhile after you've been in Ongoing Weight Loss for a month? I feel like I'm losing control. I've been stuck at the same weight for about 4 weeks now, even though I've lost inches. I know that muscle weighs more than fat and that's part of it because I just got back from a 500+ mile bike tour. But I thought I would lose weight!
So I'm considering going back to Induction for a couple of weeks and then begin OWL after that. I just feel myself slipping both physically and mentally. I'm starting to think about food more and have had more incidences of eating non-Atkins approved foods. Granted I biked them off but I don't ever want to go down that dark hole again.
Any advice from those who have been where I am would be appreciated.

    Be well-

Jade - I do it all the time! If I cheat or slip too often and can't get back into ketosis by upping the exercise, I just hit induction for a few days until those strips start turning pink again and then slowly go up the rungs again.

I'm doing just that - started back on Induction today! I don't know exactly what the culprit might be, so I figured the best way to break my stall, if it is caused by something I was doing on OWL, was to go back to Induction. ensive

I haven't been out of ketosis since I started this WOE, but when I went to OWL, I did it according to the older Atkins book (no rungs). I have been enjoying strawberries with heavy cream and also some nuts. I have kept my net carbs around 30grams, but I'm in my second "stall". My weight has been creeping off and I went a month with nothing lost, then I lost 4 lbs over a couple of days - that was exactly 4 weeks ago. Nothing since then, and I'm working out like a maniac! :anger It's aggravating!

        So that's my story!

Jade, you voiced my concerns exactly. I have been losing weight during the week, but when it comes to my "official" weigh-in Monday, I have been stalled for 3 weeks. What's worse though, is that I'm feeling like I'm out of control. This is the start of week 3 on OWL for me (have been on rung 1 for two weeks), but I never really thought about what I'm doing this week. More veggies? Moving to rung 2? Then tonight I bought a can of macadamia nuts - which is rung 3! I'm not out of control yet, but I feel myself being pulled in that direction.

            Hey Monica,
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that is going through this! Thank you for sharing your story! Please hang in there! I just know that if I do Induction for a while that I'll snap out of this small funk and get going again. I have lost inches so I'm still losing and that's a good thing. I just need to be patient.

            Thanks again!

              Hey Effie,
Thanks for sharing! Like I was sharing with Monica, I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling this way. I think that I just need to go back to Induction and take my time, get back in to ketosis and move more slowly to OWL. I couldn't wait to get through those 2 weeks of Induction so that I could get to OWL and get to fruit! But once I got there it wasn't that important. I want to learn what my ACE-CCLL is! That way I can continue to move forward in my weight loss. Right now I feel stuck. I also feel a little ungrateful because I did lose 1 whole inch off both my chest and backside so I really don't have any room to complain. I just want to get this flab off!
So I need to develop an attitude of patience. Keep in touch and let me know how you fare in the next few weeks..I will too.

It's not unheard of at all! I'm actually in maintenance and am going back to inductin this week for a bit because I gained a couple of lb's (ok, 5lbs, but i've dropped 2) by overendulging in nuts, why do i even buy them? LOL.

I find that if i put on a couple of lbs then jump back into indcution for a week it gets me back on the right track. I think i remember that Dr. Atkins even recommends this int eh book to keep your weight in check, even when in maintenance.

I just go back for as long as i need to to get myself back, then gradually add back my maintenance foods (though i'm really gonna have to stay away from the nuts!)

                Good luck.

Jade, do you really need to go back to Induction?
Ok, you've had lots of feedback from those who would readily go back to Induction, and yes :yes, I can see it is important to go back to get yourself back into ketosis, but...

you say you've been on the same weight and YET you've lost inches. So it isn't a stall because you have lost inches. We put so much emphasis on this board on losing weight, but it's not the weight that counts, it's the inches lost! You have been biking really hard recently, that in itself can build up enough muscle for you to lose inches but not lose on the scales.
Have you been told to throw away those scales of yours?

For 4 weeks you don't lose weight but you lose inches, and you feel frustrated. Have you thought of those of us who stall for weeks, months? What about those whose pounds literally crawl past (like I lose ½ lbs every few weeks or less often) but see inches lost! It is the INCHES THAT COUNT, not the numbers on your scales.

One of more question that you really need to think about:
Why do you REALLY want to go back to Induction?
Is it because you feel guilty?
You're a perfectionist so that you want to start again properly?
You're afraid of not losing more weight so you won't move to OWL?
Because Induction is the easier way out?
Because you need more time to get your head around OWL?

I think I told you how I went kicking and screaming into OWL. The first week I was there, I chose mushrooms and promptly fell off the wagon. Sure it wasn't a good start, but I had to move on. I so wanted to stay in Induction because I knew it inside out and I didn't want the complication of OWL.
OWL is difficult, but it is a learning curve that all of us need to go through. Hence you need to ask yourself why, really, are you wanting to go through Induction again? Dr A does say that going back to Induction for a couple of weeks won't be as effective as the first time around, and that you should only go back to the 14-day induction for a few days only to get you back into ketosis after a binge or a wagon fall-off... but...

please don't take offense for saying this: going back to Induction for a couple of week because you EXPECTED to lose weight, or because you FEEL you're losing control, even though YOU'VE LOST INCHES - are these valid reasons for you?

                    Hey Sadie,
Thanks for sharing. I know what you mean about those nuts!! But I find that if I eat too many I start sneezing so I have to watch it!

                      Re: Frustrated!

                      Tickle!
What a caring note! I felt like my sister was writing to me! (Except I don't have a sister but I do have friends who love me like a sister!)
I wasn't offended at all! You are so right! I know that right now I'm PMS so I tend to go a little 'mental'! After I wrote that note I felt so ungrateful! Because I HAD lost inches but what did I do? Crabbed about not losing weight! With the exception of my very first BRAN, I always had to wait a few days for my body to quiet down to determine the results of my weeks worth of riding. In the end I either stayed the same or lost every time except two.
So thank you for a different point of view. I can see the others points as well. But I think you are right in sharing that doing a whole 14 day Induction would be a mistake. I had a terrific Induction. I lost weight! I did my 'Induction' time! I do think I might do a day of Induction just to get back on solid ground but the thought of having to do more than a couple of days depresses me to no end!
Thanks again for caring enough to be honest! I thank all of the others too because I appreciate you taking the time to share your voice too. We are all important to this board and all of our views are important. It's nice to know we can have a voice and not get beaten up for sharing it here!

Be well Tickle and thanks for being in my corner!
