Hi there, I can't stand veggies...I have all I can do to stomach the induction amount... can I skip the extra veggies and move on to dairy. Also for the first week do I need to eat the same food from the dairy group (example low carb ice cream 3 xs) or can I have yougart twice and ice cream once)...just wondering if you can mix and match? Also I purchased some of the Atkins yougart that is 3 carbs but noticed that somewhere in the middle to end is fruit listed...is this allowable?? Thanks so much for your help!!! I'm a little lost...ordered my book but it hasn't got here yet!!

Re: Can I skip Veggies and go to Dairy?
Personally, I don't recommend it. Veggies provide a number of nutrients, vitamins, minerals and fiber (so you won't have to keep swallowing those yucky fiber supplements). Moreover, when you move into OWL and start increasing your carbs by 5 net carbs, you have to pay attention to not only how that carb increase affects your body, but also how that food affects your body.
Secondly, I see that you want to add on low carb ice cream---you have to think this through carefully. Was your sweet tooth part of the reason why you are on a diet to begin with? Do you have enough control over your food that you can stop at 5 net carbs of the ice cream/yogurt and not overindulge in that or in other "legal" foods?
Thirdly, if a food contains something not appropriate for your phase of Atkins, it's not appropriate for you.

Re: Can I skip Veggies and go to Dairy?
Thanks for the input....yes I do have a sweet tooth but I think my biggest problem was actually skipping breakfast/ snacking out of bordem...I was one of those people who would eat some fries at Mc. D's and then try not to eat much the rest of the day to compenstate...that seldom worked!! Now, I find myself full and satisfied most of the time but still would really love something sweet here and there. I figure that I would try the icecream (providing it does have the appropriate ingrediants) and then if I lose my self control or it is having negative effects than I will just throw it away! I really feel like I'm finally in control of my eating and I established a regular eating schedule, which helps a ton..still might and skip the extra veggies ... obviously if I don't lose for this week then I will have to revert back to the veggies...Thanks again!!

Re: Can I skip Veggies and go to Dairy?
Ok, here we go:
1. Take sugar-free jello mix (my favorite is black cherry). Mix with 1 cup hot water and 1/4 cup cold water. Blend in 1 block of cream cheese. Allow to set.
2. Mix equal parts sour cream and cream cheese with 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and splenda to taste. Chill. It is a cheesecake pudding to die for. Top with some flax seed and you'll swear it has graham cracker crust. Or, add 2 eggs and bake at 350 until firm. Then it becomes cheesecake.
3. Slice jicama into thin pieces. Fry in lots of butter until golden brown. Add cinamon and splenda to taste. Tastes like fried apples.
4. Chill a can of diet rite fruit soda (I like raspberry) until slushy. Add a dash of heavy cream.
5. Whip 1/4 cup of heavy cream with splenda to taste and 1 tablespoon cocoa powder. Tastes like, and is, chocolate mousse. (This is for special occasions or TOM, whichever comes first, lol)
6. Mix up some cream cheese with DaVinci flavored syrup (experiment, see what you like) and some whipped cream OR sour cream. Place spoonsful on waxed paper. Freeze.
7. www.atkins.com has several wonderful mousse and custard recipes. One of them, which uses Earl Grey Tea, is especially nice, but I haven't made it in awhile so I can't remember the recipe. The website also has a mocha slushie recipe that is fantastic.Started Atkins 2d time 6/20/05

I suggest pumkin as a great treat. I mix 1/2 and 1/2 with cream cheese, a little splenda and some pumkin pie spice. Or make a pumkin pie using spenda and whipped cream as subs. Its sweet and a vegi.~Lauren~

I LOVE Icecream and found an alternative other than the Carb Smart 0 net carb Creamcicles... I take a 1/4 cup blueberries and stir in a 1/4 packet of Splenda with 2-3 oz heavy cream and freeze it for an hour or so. Just like ice cream to me and is a refreshing cool treat to help me beat the heat we have had lately.

How about Clouds? I take a block of cream cheese and a stick of butter and allow them to sit out at room temperature until softened. Then mix them with vanilla (or other flavoring of your choice) and some splenda. Take spoonfuls of them, put it on a cookie sheet and put in the freezer. Yummy! They are to die for. Really hits the spot. This is even induction friendly. A lifesaver!Started 4/18/04

Re: Can I skip Veggies and go to Dairy?
you can make induction legal ice cream using the ziplock baggie recipe in the recipe forum.
Many veggies on that list will begin to taste sweet to you if you cut back on your sweets. roasting or grilling many veggies make them taste sweet like peppers onions asperagus. remember that 3sevings a day of any sweetner product be it a drink a sauce a packet or whatever a day limit carries over to OWL too.by the book atkinseer
