  • Clarification...

    Okay, it is about time I stopped messing about and did OWL properly. I do use fitday and normally it tells me I'm eating about 13 carbs for induction. Adding more vegetables on would probably take me up to 18 carbs per day.

    Would anyone be able to advise me on if that's too low for me to be eating for rung 1 of OWL or if that would be ok?

    I've also been confused by Induction - we have a max of 20 carbs per day there. Does that 20 carbs include any extras we add like olives or lemon juice from the list of extras that Dr Atkins gave us? I've been puzzled about that for a year now so a clear answer would really help.

    And if you had done an extended induction and then added nuts to your carbs, would you still have had to remain under 20 carbs for the day or would the nuts carbs have been in addition to the 20?

    You count the carbs to everything you eat or drink. So yes, you should have been counting the carbs to lemon juice, olives, cream, eggs, decaf tea/coffee (yes, they do have carbs!) etc. during Induction. The same rule applies to OWL---everything you eat or drink is counted.

    Extended Induction simply is doing the Induction phase for longer than the initial 14 Days. That means, you stay at or below 20 net carbs daily and eat only the foods on the Induction Acceptable Foods List. I know from reading the posts in the Extended Forum that some folks there think that "Extending" Induction means they can eat apples and bananas as long as they stay within the Induction carb range---not so and I do hope one day they figure this out.

    About nuts...you only add 1 ounce of them, with the exception of cashews which are limited to 1/2 ounce. Read Soliwit's post in this forum about them.

    Now about OWL.....

    Re-check your Induction Menus and see what your net carb count has really been, since you have indicated that you weren't counting the extras like lemon juice and olives.

    All you do during OWL Rung 1 is add 5 net carbs of Induction veggies to your Induction menu.

      yep and you add that new 5 net carbs every day. IF a food from the list you want to eat in OWl is one you haven't eatten as part of your induction then you only have that new food no more then 3 times a week.

      Every time you add a new to you food you only have it 3 times the first week e ven if you are way past that rung.

      Yep we got folk sneaking in to our Extended indeuction using the old DANDRS with the rule 5 that said you could make your own list of 20 carbs but on ADBB we only accept 2002 rules cause if Dr Atkins said they needed changing he had a very good reason for it.

        Looks like I'll have to clarify what I originally posted! I haven't had the olives or the extra lemon juice because I wasn't sure if they counted towards the 20 carbs or not.

        When I said fitday said about 13 net carbs that's what I meant... lol! And that has included decaff coffee and the cream that's gone into it each day.

        Sorry for any confusion, was not intended.

          Oh...Then just add on 5 net carbs of the Induction veggies to your menu.

            You can add more lots of 5 net carbs of veggies if you dont want to move up the ladder yet and stay on the veg rung for several '2 weeksworths' of adding them.
            Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                Hey I never realised I could ad another 5 carbs worth of the veggie rung, that is a VERY good plan, cause I sure do love my veggies !!!!!
                Hmmmmm, this opens even more possibilities, wow !!
