So I kind of skipped rung 2 because I didn't really like anything on it. Now I was at the grocery store and found some plain yogurt, 6g carb per half cup. I got it, and was surprised it wasn't so bad. I threw some raspberries in it too. It was pretty tasty...the only thing I gotta wonder is why they only make it in the huge tubs it seems!

Re: Revisiting rung 2...
MY question is why do they figure that if you're eating yogurt you want it to be either full fat with sugar added to the fruit added to the yogurt, or you want it to be plain lowfat or nofat?! There's like, *ONE* brand that has full fat plain yogurt, and like, 10 that have the other varieties!!! WHY?!?!?!?!
See, I don't really like yogurt, but I thought about giving it a shot again... and so was indeed looking for the individual size ones, and ran across the same issue, then was looking for a medium size tub, and ran across this one (since the one brand is only available in a vat sized tub).27/f/5'10"

Re: Revisiting rung 2...
I don't mind having the large containers because plain yogurt is more versatile than the flavored stuff. For example, you can use plain yogurt as a meat marinade, salad dressing base, or drink it (lassi is a Indian/Pakistani yogurt drink----yogurt thinned with water, ice and whatever fruit you like.)~Megs~

Re: Revisiting rung 2...
I hate that half the time I can't even find full fat plain yogurt, except for maybe Dannon, which is nasty. The only other brand I can usually find is Stonyfield Farm, which is decent, but a lot of times, the grocery store only has fat free, and not full fat.
Here's something else that irritates me. I buy myself plain, and I buy vanilla for hubby, and he'll eat all of his, and then dump splenda in mine. Not in a bowl, but he'll muck up the whole tub of yogurt with splenda, Another reason individual sized cups would come in handy. I've asked him not to do it, but he's got some sort of mental block when it comes to following instructions about anything in the fridge.
Sorry for the rant.....

Re: Revisiting rung 2...
I just discovered the greek yogurt...OMG that stuff is sooooooo good. HOWEVER, none of the regular (and convenient) grocery stores around me carry it. So, i have to drive clear across town to one of the fancy grocery stores to get it.
Higgies, you really should revisit the dairy rung because in addition to yogurt, there is cottage cheese and ricotta cheese, half n half, milk, icecream. Now, icecream causes me issues, even if low carb. But the other stuff has been really nice additions to my diet...AND I can say that prior to rung 2 , I wouldn't eat ANY of those things.
Phode, he must commiserate with my DH who has me buy him nasty carby stuff like raviolis and canned chilli and soups so he has "snack" food when he comes home from work, but hours before dinner....and then proceeds to eat all my eggs! So, i go to the fridge to get eggs, they are gone but that damn ravioli is there in the cupboard...>GRRRR!~Joy

Re: Revisiting rung 2...
I like the lowcarb dannon yogurt in the blueberry, peaches and even the vanilla. I dab the top with a little whipped cream and you have a 4 carb snack. Phode, which flavor did you find nasty?

Re: Revisiting rung 2...
I got the Dannon plain and it seemed fine...
Yeah, I don't like cottage cheese...I LOVE ricotta, but typically the things I like it in are all no no's...

Cottage cheese doesn't agree with me unless I top it alot of slenda I figure I am just better off not eating it.

Re: Revisiting rung 2...
I got the plain Dannon Atkid. I'm just not a Dannon girl. I really prefer the Greek and Middle Eastern yogurts, but they're much harder to find here in Florida, than they were in Detroit.
I buy Stonybrook Organic now because it's at the local grocery store....usually.

Re: Revisiting rung 2...
Sillygirl introduced me to a really nice (and filling) dessert and that is to mix full fat ricotta cheese with some DaVinci syrup. I've used caramel and it's REALLY good.
I also use rung2 for George Stella's New York Style Ricotta cheesecake. It's decadent. I put ricotta in lots of recipes now where I used to put cream cheese (like squash casserole) or cottage cheese.
I even will have a glass of "Chocolate Milk" every now and then using DaVinci's chocolate flavored syrup and some Hoods Calorie Countdown milk or whole milk.~Joy

Re: Revisiting rung 2...
Ricotta I use frequently: it's a nice dessert when it's topped with stewed fruit. I also use it as a filling for zucchini lasagna or onion 'shells': the trick is to mix the ricotta with an egg and with some parmesan cheese so that it will have some texture rather than be really soft and mushy.~Megs~

Re: Revisiting rung 2...
I'm wondering if you're talking about "full-fat" - what's the fat % in it? I have found 7% maximum which isn't really "full fat" IMO, but from the other side, it can't probaly be more than that?

Re: Revisiting rung 2...
moonwish, well, I don't buy the 'lowfat' or 'fatfree' marked ricotta or cottage cheese or yogurt. Sometimes ours will say fat free or 2% or 4% I always get the highest one which is usually 4%. So, if you are getting 7% I'd say thats really good.~Joy

Re: Revisiting rung 2...
Wow how interesting you guys have such a hard time finding containers of plain yogurt there? Usually you guys have all the stuff that we don't LOL. We have a brand here called Astro, is 6% (yes moonwish your yogurt is full fat if it's 7%), and comes in 1/2 cup containers. We have many different varieties of plain yogurt ranging from .5% to 6% in both big and small containers.
One thing we don't have here is low carb yogurt..I tried bluebunny when in florida the thought it was disgusting! once you've had full fat real yogurt I think the low carb ones are awful..i found it watery and bland.
