    It's ok, my version of the book says all that too
    Is your book the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution? (says on mine, completely updated, revised and improved) He has added more detailed information in it for us.

    Regardless, for you to do OWL rung 1, and as the others have kindly mentioned for you . . 5g net carbs of the vegetables you have already been able to eat in induction is the only change for you to do to be in rung 1 of OWL

    In my induction, my net carbs were only about 16g, so when I moved to rung 1, I added an extra serving of veggies (from the induction list) that was 5g net. So my daily total was actually 21g net carbs for rung 1
    I only added those extra veggies 3 times in the first week to see how my body would handle it.

    The only change you are making is eating the 5g extra of veggies - all the other induction rules and foods still apply - including the limits on cheese and sweetner etc:
    I have lost so much more on OWL than induction - as many many others have too Hope that helps

      If the food is brand new to you, like you never ate it during Induction, you shouldn't eat it more than 3 times per week to start. So if you avoided broccoli during Induction, you shouldn't add 5 net carbs of broccoli everyday to your OWL menu.


      daniejim, that 3 times a week thing is in the "Rules of OWL"
      Eat a food group no more thanh three times per week to start. Then you may eat it daily.

        The 3x a week thing is a typo.

        Like not2late says, if you have NOT eaten the food before, you can only eat it 3x the first week--this is the "new food rule" which will apply for the entirety of OWL. You may only eat it 3x per week so you can see if it causes symptoms like bloating, cravings, headache, etc. If the food does not cause bad reactions, you may eat it daily thereafter.

        The part that says you may eat a new food group 3x per week is a TYPO. It should say you may eat a new FOOD 3x per week...the "new food rule."

        You may eat something from the new food GROUP everyday, as long as it is not the same food, and EVERYDAY you should be striving to hit that new carb level, NOT every other day. If you do it every other day, you aren't really finding out if you can eat that higher carb level.

          thanks ladies, I get it now...was a bit confused about that but still will have to fight today to reach 25 net carbs...think I'll have to eat a lot of tomatoes
          Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P

            Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                Just checking that you are only aiming at adding 5 more net carbs to your previous induciton total intake.
                Some people misunderstand and think they have to get to 25 net carbs on the first OWL rung when on induction they were only averaging 10 net carbs, so are trying to add 15 net carbs at once to reach the 'perfect 25'.
