    Re: SLOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW Losers?

Yes, please, Dream! I think Bradybunch would join in. I just became a supporting member--about time--I have been a member for almost a year.

    Sunny!

      Re: SLOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW Losers?

It's still worth getting your %body fat checked. We had a member who had a large weight loss goal. Her original goal weight was something like 140 pounds. She was plugging along and got down to something like 150---and then she got her %body fat measured. It was below normal for a woman her age. So her doctor told her to stop the weight loss and get into weight maintenance because a low %body fat has the same amount of health risks as a high one. Most of her weight was due to all the muscle she added through her exercise, not body fat. She switched into weight maintenance and did her usual exercise workout to tone her body out.

Ha ha - you are so optimistic, Not2Late.

Believe it or not, before I got pregnant with my daughter I was considering in competing in amateur (non-steroid) weight lifting competitions. Once upon a time, I was pretty much all muscle. This is no longer the case. These days I am all squish.

My bodyfat % is 31%. A good 13 points higher than normal for me, and still considered obese - at risk for heart and joint problems, not to mention hypertension and diabetes. I am basically all fat and bone.

I have a ways to go, and of course getting back on track with exercise is crucial. I have not exercised in any real way in 6 years.

We are talking about starting a slow losers challenge and 4 days a week of exercise will be part of my goal. That and no coffee!

              Re: SLOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW Losers?

Here are the guidelines for forming a new challenge. Right now I can't be accountable to be here as much as I'd like to so I'll pop in often as I can and cheer everyone on - (personal issues at home) - but I think this would be a great challenge and help each other with planning to change the things that are stalling and improving the weight losses for the members of the challenge.

              Attention Challenge Leaders and Challengers

Challenges are one of the most motivating tools available to the Membership of the ADBB. You will find Board Sponsored Challenges (those hosted by one or more Moderators and/or Administrators and done on a semi annual basis) and a host of other challenges that are led by Supporting Members and the General Membership.

As a Challenge Leader, you are responsible for caring for the challenge by supporting your Challengers and doing what it takes to see them meet their set goal. You are also responsible for handing out awards. Award presentations can be presented in the Celebration! Forum, if you wish. If, for whatever reason, you can not see your challenge through to the end or if you have a problem concerning any part of your challenge, please contact the Moderator of the Forum.

As a Challenger, it is helpful to post your progress in a timely manner. The reason is two-fold: 1. This helps you to keep the course and 2. it helps the Challenge Leader keep up with your progress. Don’t take on too much. There are many challenges offered and it is easy to burn out or become overwhelmed. When becoming involved with too many challenges, the usual, final result is not accomplishing any of the set goals. If you drop a challenge or simply won‘t be able to post, it would be courteous to notify the Challenge Leader. Be advised that if the Challenge Leader does not notify the Moderator of the forum that he or she will not be able to see the challenge through to the end, you may not receive your award in a timely manner.
              Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Dedication gives wings to our dreams and keeps them in flight! In One Word...COMMITTMENT.

                Re: SLOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW Losers?

                Hi everyone,

Thanks for the link to this thread Sunny I'd be interested in a slow losers thread. Anyone can set one up in the challenges section, I believe.

For me I'd stick to my 'Austere Month' rules which are:
                - No caffiene of any kind, no decaf coffee or tea
                - No alcohol whatsover
                - No splenda or artificial sweetners
                - Cocoa powder based desserts only at weekends
                - Exercise 5/6 days a week (I do that anyway)
                - Fitday everyday
                - A certain number of carbs from veggies - not sure of the numbers

When are we getting this show on the road? And for how long. I was thinking 'til Xmas for my own personal challenge anyway.

                  Hey Alexa,

Welcome. I just dropped a note to Jimmie 48 to see if she'd help with the challenge set up (I think we need to have prizes created and such). I have never participated in a challenge before, so I am navigating unfamiliar waters here.

Once I hear back from her with some how to's, I guess we'll get started. I thiink going til Christmas is a good timeline. You make me feel wussy with my own rules though. Maybe 4 days of exercise and no coffee isn't quite rigorous enough.

That will be the beauty of this challenge--tailor-made to our own needs. Keep thinking about what you want and need to change, and you might come up with something else. I'd like each of us to come up with four items to do differently or keep doing, if it has started to work recently, for us.

I agree with Christmas. We have 80 days from today until Christmas Eve. Then we start over for the New Year, a new you. I want, really badly, to get to goal by the New Year.

I'm going to start thinking about what price I'm willing to pay to reach goal, pay the price and and be done with it. No looking back.

I'm going to have to change my rules in the middle, though, because I'm not allowed to exercise until the end of November. I can't wait. I'll be really out of shape by then, and will have to start over at step one.

                    Excited Sunny!

                          Hey Ladies!!
                          I'm joining too!!

I've been bouncing around the same 10-15 lbs or so for at least 6-8 months. I know why I'm not getting to my goal so this is definitely the right challenge for me!
I need to cut out all of my stallers - even if just for awhile to just prove to myself that I can do it!

#1 - I'm cutting out all nuts!! (they're the worst for me)... I hope this helps my mindless snacking!
#2 - All fruit except for berries
#3 - No more than 4 oz of cheese a day - this includes cream cheese! lol
                          #4 - I'll exercise at least 4 days a week for 60 minutes
#5 - To track my food into fit-day daily
#6 - To stay accountable... to admit if I mess up and post in the challenge daily.
                          #7 - I'll drink at least 80 oz of water a day
#8 - & I'll see about cutting out the coffee.... I'm undecided!! LOL

                          How exciting!

Thanks for bringing this challenge to my attention Sunny - you're the best! xo

                            Re: SLOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW Losers?

I'm still thinking on my needs, but for sure:

                            1. I will eat three well balanced meals a day and nothing in between. I will not eat anything after 7:00 p.m. each night.

                            2. I will post on the challenge a minimum of four times a week, reporting my progress. (except during and the week after surgery (Oct. 17)

                            3. On November 28, or sooner if released by my docs, I will begin my exercise program once again, starting slowly and increasing as health permits.

                            a. Walk Away the Pounds video 3x per week (warm-up only first week)
                            b. lift 3x per week. (start again with 2-pound weights)
                            c. recumbent stepper 3x per week (start w/ 5 min., increase by 5 min. each week)
                            d. Walk outside, weather permitting, several days per week.

                            4. If I have to be away from home, I will have legal food with me at all times, so I don't get too hungry.

                            5. I will continue to drink 128 ounces of water per day.

                            6. I will weigh in on Friday and Monday without fail.

                            7. I will fit into my winter white wool suit and awesome red dress by the end of this challenge.

The only times I get in trouble are the times I am kept away from home hours later than my usual meal time. I scarf down my food and then can never seem to get full for the rest of that day. My many appointments at UVA Medical Center frequently keep me several hours and I am 80 miles round-trip from home.

I need to--oops--I will pre-cook several servings of legal foods and put them in individual zip-locks in the freezer, ready to be packed in my lunch box cooler, to hold me over. I do usually take something with me, but most of the time I never have time between appointments to really eat the food I take. I will figure out a way. I'm getting ready to resign (again) from my lab-rat/unwilling participant in research guinea pig for UVA and when my official appointment is over, get up and walk out. Long story, but I have a rare disorder, and they don't get many chances to have a live patient as a teaching tool. UVA is a big teaching hospital.

That should be enough to keep me focused for the first challenge. Might tweak it later.

Could we start on Monday, October 8? If no one else wants to start the challenge, I will do it. I have an appointment at UVA on Tuesday, Oct. 9, and Wednesdays are always long for me. I'm at church for several hours and gone until late.

                            Sunny!

It's hard not to lose focus when it is this slow, and in OWL you have to keep focus - have to measure and plan and stick to it. I don't cheat, but I do lose focus and sometimes eat too much.

                                Hi TitianWasp

I know you guys have evolved a lot since you started this thread but I just wanted to write because I'm in a similar boat... I don't have that much to lose but am having one enormous struggle doing it.
I've been following this WOL for a relatively short period - about two months in earnest - and am still about the same weight as when I started (as of this morning's horror weigh-in). I keep bouncing up and down.

We were out of town for a month, so when we got back I decided to regroup and go back on strict induction for a week. This was two weeks ago. Weighed myself last Saturday and had returned to 128. This week I was really good too, very few nuts, measured everything. I know my calories have been lower than before because I cut out the coconut oil chocolate bark I'd been loving as a snack plus nuts and soy butter. Then, having exercised all willpower to wait until today to weigh, the scale screamed 131 at me. Which would have been okay (not really) because I felt good and it may be water retention etc etc except that I also just got bloodwork back from my doctor and my cholesterol has shot up and she told me to go low-fat. Ugh! Subconsciously I'm now looking at the fat that I loved two days ago and public enemy no 1 and eating it feeling it's taking a direct route to my heart (drama queen).
If the scale had been gentle this morning I think I would have thought, let's stick this out and like Dr Atkins says, your cholesterol will come down. But now this is like I'm cutting out more and more, not losing and having cholestrol issue. Oy!
I'm interested in joining the challenge you're all doing but am feeling a bit bruised from being extra-super good and gaining
Maybe I can join from next week if you'll have me? Right now the pity party in my head's saying what more do I need to cut out without starting to feel deprived?
                                Thanks for listening!
