I am increasing vegetables for the month of october, raising to 23-25g a day carbs.

However having some difficulty today, keeping a food log.

Peppers, I found conflicting info on their count, my book said 0.4 for 40g, then when checking the USDA it said a completly different figure.... checked about 7 sites and all completly different. Really dont know what to put now..

Also am I best to use total carbs, net carbs??..heh so confusing. I know here the total carbs listed should be the net carbs, However this dosent match up on the packets.

Also today have had cucumber, green beans and pepper, pretty much wipes out most of my carb allowance-- measured out 80g of the beans for 2.4 carbs and everything else again

Its such a small amount of veggies-- is this correct? Am really missing a normal bowl sized salad right now.

    Any gems would be fabulous!

    You count net carbs.

For OWL, you add 5 net carbs of foods. So OWL Rung 1, you add 5 net carbs of any veggies on the Induction Acceptable Foods List.

During Induction, you were to eat 3 cups (volume-metric measure) of Induction veggies. In the 14 Day Induction Forum, soliwit has a sticky thread about the weights per 1 cup of the Induction Veggies. So if you are weighing your vegetables, you should be following her list in order not to exceed that "3 cup" amount during Induction.

have been using net carbs, so that works fine

at the worst I would be putting too many rather than too little(if the fibre hasnt been taken away)

I have been measuring, its a very small amount

Is it even worth eating runner beans/peppers--other high carb veg?

80g of runner beans isnt much at all...

Peppers aren't "high carb". They are on the "salad" list for Induction vegetables.

About the runner beans.....are they the beans still in the pods (as pictured this link: Thompson & Morgan) or are they just the beans/seeds?

If they are just the beans/seeds, then they are absolutely NOT acceptable for Induction or Rung 1 OWL because they are considered legumes. If they are the immature runner beans that are still in the pods, then they are acceptable for induction and rung 1 .

I just weighed out 80 grams of the beans I buy which are called 'french beans' and are smaller than the usual runner beans and they make quite a decent sized serving.

I just looked up the nutrition of runner beans and found that 5 net carbs of them is quite a huge portion!

With only 0.3 net grams (1.8 - 1.5) per 80 gram portion, 5 net carbs would be 1.333 kilograms unless my maths is out!!

Okay..I had 80g as 2.4g..so have I been eating 10g a day of carbs instead of 20??..I am so confused right now

I thought UK packets had the fibre already subtracted? Am I way off

I think you have a fairly correct number for 80 grams of green beans. 80 grams of raw green string beans will have around 3 carbs. Have you tried fitday? It helps you add things together. And it does grams now. Great for people who measure (and is metric). 3 carbs is still ways away from 25 so you can still add plenty of veggies to it.

No - the nutrition info I posted was a USA-type label with the fiber listed as being part of the total carbohydrates.
Here is the info for 100 gram of boiled runner beans from a UK site
                Runner Beans, boiled

                  Re: adding vegetables?help measuring

                  now I am really confused!!

I use my collins gem UK edition, then when I check on the USDA website its about x2 more, even with fibre subtracted. I have always gone by the larger figure to be sure.

Gosh. why so confusing!! Thank you so much for the help!! Checking a few sources for tracking might be a wise(yet confusing) idea!

                    Re: adding vegetables?help measuring

The problem is that for many fresh vegetables and fruitss, carb counts vary according to the variety and how it was grown
If you can find produce with nutrition labelling on it you can use that in preference to any of the websites as the packing company should have the correct numbers for that particular crop.
