Great idea...I'll wean her off of it slowly. I picked up a book called "sugar busters for kids". It looks promising. It stresses whole grain, sugar free. The book has a ton of recipes. We already use whole grains. I don't even have any white flour or sugar in the house. We have whole grains, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, etc.....

Your right, I had not thought of of the fact that there has to be kids with diabetes that need alternatives. I want her health to be treated just as importantly as the diabetic child. Thank you. Trish

I'm allergic to sugar...it causes me to break out in fat!!!

Yes Leslie Iwas curious as how the splenda experiment was going. I seem to take more tylenol for headaches now that I have started using splenda, but didn't put it together until I read your thread. I stopped using it 4 days ago and no headaches, but hoping it is nt pschosymatic(my spelling is horrible so please excuse the attempt).

And the schools and sugar thing is awfull. My condolenses. I taught for 9 years. Go hang out at the cafeteria just one day and watch what the kids eat and what they throw away. Truly an eye opener. They will eat the fruit, the jello, the dessert and the chocolate milk, and throw everythingelse away. And if coke and candy machines are avaible lucnh is usually chips, candy and soda and that starts around sixth grade here.

Kkat, why not try pm'ing the person who was doing the experiment and asking them. This thread is over a year old and I can't even recall it from last year.

                Re: Splenda issues

just in case, I am buying stevia instead. I heard of a woman here in mexico that developed an alergy to splenda.

Same thing at my kids' school. The teachers give them candy as treats too!!

My daughter is a total candy-holic(age 9, 3rd grade). Since we have started this, and they were very involved from the beginning, she just began turning it down. If someone persits that she take it, she gives the treats to someone else.

Just so she will keep it up, I take her for "sneaky" treats. A piece of candy while at the store that "noone but me and her know about." It seems to work.

My son isn't a big candy eater so he is easier. If it isn't a brownie or Oreo, he doesn't really want it.
