  • Worried I'm eating too much veg

I get really confused on the cups measurements and have admitted to myself that I'm not properly measuring my veg! I haven't lost anything for the past two weeks - I know that this can happen as it happened before and I will be patient but I have that nagging feeling about the veg.

Typically I may have 140-200g of lettuce and either 100g of asparagus or 200g of green beans a day.

    Am I going way over?

grams are not cups which is the Atkins measure unit for veggies. it is done in volum and you should be converting to ml or cc

one cup is 8 fluid ounces not weight ounces and is 236.56 ml

I just looked on the USDA database and it says that
1 cup of romaine lettuce is 56 grams and
1 cup of asparagus (canned and drained) is 180 grams
1 cup of green beans (snap) boiled is 125 grams

Better to get a measuring cup or use a measuring jug and fill to the 236 mls mark then tip it onto a scale and make a note of the weight for future use. You can then build up a list of how heavy a cup of all your usual veggies is and avoid guessing.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

        Thanks to you both

I find it so bizarre - measuring solid mass in liquid measurements :confused

I wish there was a book with Atkins conversions

          That is true.
I'd rather it be a weight measurement.

Similar to fitday, when it says "one small chicken leg" (or whatever).

Give me measurements/weights, people, and I'll understand it so much more accurately.

i actually isn't a liquid mass meausure it is a volume measure like all the air inside a ballon is measureable as a volum of air in ounces, or ml or cc in your units. As I said we have two different tyoes of ounces weight ounces and volume ounces and they are totally different things.

You are not the only one confused If you can find thefirst editions of rht e2002 Atkins someUK editor thought he would asssit folk and convert the US units to UK and he converted the volume onces to grams and needless to say 24 ounces or 3 cups of lettuce converted to mgs was blowing our UK dieters away trying to consume all that lettuce. :yikes

hi Emily, FYI the cup measurement that DANDR uses refers to the US (imperial) cup rather than the metric cup.

I am assuming the cup measurement is the same as the one used in Australia... which means you could potentiall be eating too much

              2 cups (metric) = 2.5 cups (US/imperial)

I found this by accident and noticed that some measuring jugs here had imperial AND metric measurements.
