  • have gained 6kg!! please help been 2 years on atkins

    Hey everyone, its coming up to 2 years on atkins in february, and i started out with a large goal, to loose around 60+kg... Ive lost a lot, around 38kg, however i have already gained 6kg of that back, and i had not even reached goal.

    I still have another 20-25kg to loose to reach goal, and now ive gained 6 more kg, im angry and upset, ive spent 2 years of my life adjusting and making atkins my life, and i was happy and it was a success the first year, but as i read through my food diary for year 2 i lost next to nothing, in a whole year i had only shed 5kg, and in this same year managed to gain that 5kg back with an extra 1 kg

    i am begining to think i need to move on, change diets. advise from friends,family have been to change my diet, and that clearly my body has got to accustomed to this way of eating and now its not working.

    its a new year and i was hoping 2010 would be the year i had comepleted my weightloss, unfortunetly its not, though i dont want to be defeated and will continue the battle to shed the fat.

    im just looking for advise perhaps it is time i changed diets..

    Your profile says 14-day induction...that doesn't seem right. What phase/rung are you on?

      Have you gone up the rungs? Your post show you are still on Induction but you say you are on the Atkins plan for two years.

      And without you providing more info about your food intake, water, exercise, age, height, etc., no one can comment on what the problem may be.

      About changing diets, that is something only you can decide for yourself.

          Hey sorry

          i never changed it ill have a look around and see how can change that lol..

          well i stayed on extended induction for well over a year .. then i moved in to rung 1 and stayed there for a few months, then rung 2 and 3.. but id sort of sick the berries rung as i seemed to gainw eight.. so i tend to jump between 2-4 i have a terrible tendency to just gain weight i can literally weight myself one morning and the next have gained up to 3-4kg its insane, and the fruit made me gain (raspberries etc) so i skipped them and moved to nuts which seemed fine didnt really gain... then suddenly after around 3-4 months i started gaining and now 6kg up and depressed

            Did you do as Dr. Atkins suggests and drop back 5 net carbs?

            Can you post an example of a daily menu ... with quantities and net carbs?

              Why don't you post a sample menu so we can try to help you. Also post the info (more info about your food intake, water, exercise, age, height, etc., ) that mission was asking about. You don't tell us enough for us to help you.

                Im 24 years old, female
                5'4 currently 196lbs
                i exercise 3-4 times a week in 30-40min sessions
                drink 1.5 litres of water as a minimum per day

                daily food intake will vary but on average: 2 eggs in the morning with mushrooms in cream sauce (home made)

                lunch: chicken in a curry sauce (home made) with onions,fresh tomato and herbs and spices.. with green beans( sting beans)

                dinner: chicken legs and thighs marinated in butter and spices and oven baked with cabbage and mayo salad...

                i home cook almost everything i eat..and i meant that i was hoping that 2010 was the start of a new thing me, i know its the begining of the year and i cant wait to crack on with my weight just felt like i needed direction as when i look at the year passed i see i accomplished nothing which is a little frustrating..

                In regards to atkins being a diet, well i refer to it as a diet in the sense it is my diet, the way in which i eat and i love atkins, quite frankly i have no idea what i would have done without it, it got me through the hardest time in my life, and i have embraced it as MY diet on just a quick fix or a fad, but i also worry that ill never reach goal, thats why i wonder if perhaps my body has changed and maybe this is something that other people have experienced which required them to change up their diet a bit...

                Any advise would be greatly appreciated...

                  atkinsgal08: thanks for your repsonse, yes i have cut back .. i even tried the fat fast in order to kick start the weight loss and follow through the right way, nothing absolutley no change in weight if anything it went up..

                  i was advised to stay on extended beacuse when i tried moving along the rings in the first year i begun gaining, and the decisionn was made to hold off until id lost a little more, it took that whole year to shed the 30 or so kg and then as mentioned the secound year was a mess... even when i did move along the rungs id have to stop and skip rungs all because of weight gain.. i have exercised so much this year, with hiring a instructor 3 times a week, and even 2 times a week i was doing boxercise... at the moment for the last month i am exercising alone, walking,jogging, aerobics and weights as i just moved cities and havent had the time to arrange for a trainer or classes..

                    Are you tracking the portions that you eat, including the ingredients in the sauces you make? Example:

                    Eggs 2 large
                    Mushrooms 1/2 c
                    Cream Sauce: 1/4c cream 1t butter 1t white flour

                    That would help us a lot.

                    Also, 1.5L of water is less than the ~2L minimum recommended by Dr Atkins...and a lot of people find that they need more than the minimum to keep themselves hydrated best.

                      I would suggest plugging your daily food intake into fitday.com for a week or two. See what that reveals about your ratios and caloric and carb intakes.

                      Perhaps remind yourself of the rules...re-read the stickies/DANDR...make sure that you are getting your 3 cups of veggies, not eating anything not on the list of foods acceptable in induction (plus your OWL foods), count the carbs in EVERYTHING that passes your lips (like herbs & spices, gum, drinks, etc).

                        The mimimum is 2 liters (62 ounces). At your weight, 98 ounces might be better.

                        Well, that could possibly have messed up your metabolism. You shouldn't have done the Fat Fast, since you had lost weight. And the Fat Fast shouldn't be done without the direct supervision of your doctor. And, it can be dangerous is you're not metabolically resistant. But ... what's done is done.

                        Who gave you this advise? Your doctor?

                        As you know from your reading of DANDR, Induction shouldn't be done for more than 6 months.

                        Staying on Induction too long very often backfires ...

                        Did anyone tell you that that is common? And that your body starts losing when it figures out what's going on?

                        Do you have any idea how many calories you're eating?

                          Shrew2u: hey, well ill definitely up the water, i generally drink at least 1.5 but mostly more, but that is something i can work on

                          As for measurements sorry here they are:

                          2 large eggs

                          7 medium sized button closed capped mushrooms
                          1Tlbsp double cream with 1 tblsp water and 1/2 tsp black freshly ground pepper

                          1 large breast of chicken
                          1/2 small onion
                          3 tsp of different dried spices and herbs..
                          1 clove garlic
                          1/4 inch of fresh root ginger
                          1 medium tomato
                          1/4 cup water

                          2-4 thighs or leg of chicken
                          2 tblsp butter
                          2-3 tsp spices/herbs

                            I am counting up ~1.5 cups of veggies there? What happened to the 3 cups plus Rung 1 veggies? Many people lose MUCH better if they eat more veggies. I also don't see much fat.

                            Try fitday.com - it will show these things more clearly.
