  • Moving On To Rung 2

I've been on extended induction for a while now and just realized that maybe I've been doing Rung 2 all along. I'm really not a dairy person but do like cream in my coffee. I've been using cream since induction because I thought we could have it. I'm thinking about moving to Rung 3 because I love nuts. I'm also stalled. I keep loosing 1 and gaining 1. I lost some weight during induction but mostly inches. I started Jan 11. My diet has been fish, chicken, beef, romaine lettuce, cucumbers, green beans, eggs, turkey sausage, turkey bacon. Most of my carbs come from romaine lettuce. I would love to loose a few more pounds and maybe moving on will do that? Suggestions please

    Cream is fine on Induction.

    >>Most of my carbs come from romaine lettuce.>>

Really? How much romaine do you eat in a day? How many net carbs in romaine?

I guess I should rephrase that. I meant most of the veggies I eat is romaine and cucumbers. I bought some cabbage the other day and will add that in as well. Also I forgot to mention that I do have have cheese on my burgers when I'm having that or just a string of cheese as a snack. Condiments I use are mayo and mustard. I usually put the cucumbers in my salad but sometimes I will have them with some cream cheese

Cream is allowed on Induction. As a beverage, it's limited to 2-3 tablespoons per day.

Cheese is fine, too. The limit for Induction is 4 oz per day.

I don't know if you overate cream or cheese, but even if you did, it does not mean you were on OWL Rung 2. It just means you weren't following Induction correctly.

If you move to OWL, and I encourage you to do that, then increase your net carbs by adding 5 net carbs of vegetables. That's OWL Rung 1. Almost everyone is fine with more veggies... but I can't say the same about diary and nuts. You'll get to nuts, too, but start things from the beginning, not from the rung you like.

I'm also stalled. I keep loosing 1 and gaining 1.
If you want to post a menu with quantities and net carbs for all foods and drinks, we might spot something "wrong".

        Are you losing inches?

For how long have you been stalled?

I was loosing inches but that was more during the beginning. As far as veggies go, there are days when I do eat more romaine, cucumbers and green beans. So I know I've been doing more of Rung 1. That's why I was thinking of moving onto Rung 3 since I don't care for rung 2. I think I may be eating too much cheese. I will cut that back a little and see what happens. The reason I was going to add some nuts in was because sometimes it does jolt your system and you get that swoosh. I think my body is so use to eating the same things every day, it needs a change.

make the move and see what happens. OWl is a huge food experiemnt.
you do need to eat more of the induction veggies each day for the micronutrtiants such as potassium calcium magnesium and vits that you will not be getting in your meats.

Well I haven't added any nuts yet. Not sure when I will. Hubby and I are going away to the beach for our anniversary March 12 so would like to celebrate a little. I may wait and add something else that day. Would like to celebrate with a glass of wine. Am hoping it won't mess me up

if you read DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION 2002 edition you will see that wine is allowed on the 5th rung of OWL so between now and then you just need to add the nuts/seeds rung and the berries rung and you will be right there ready for 5 net grams of carbs of wine.

do be aware though that low carbers are discovering that the smaller amount of alcohol effects them faster and makes them feel intoxicated.

Re: Moving On To Rung 2

There are certain Rungs that I don't care for. So is it OK for me to move up to the one I like. For example, I hate milk but do like cream. (I use it in my coffee) I may eat cream cheese every now and then but not too much. I love nuts (too much) and berries. So was thinking that maybe I will move up to nuts?

Re: Moving On To Rung 2

The posters on here got me onto fitday.com which is sooo helpful.

I think most of them will tell you to add more veggies. RUNG 2 is more cheese, not milk, so no worries if you don't like milk. I have yet to add more cheese but I need to. I am stuck at 4 oz but experimenting with yogurt on RUNG 2.

I personally didn't lose a lot on RUNG 1 because of TOM (as you posted on my board)and a stall (still not quite sure what the issue was) I moved to RUNG 2 Monday to see what would happen.

But I am "new" too so don't take my advice, I am getting it from others.

You can stay on Rung 1 for move than one week, too.

                      >>RUNG 2 is more cheese, not milk>>

Rung 2 is dairy, so you could add 5 net carbs of milk.

                      Why do you "need" to?

I was on RUNG 1 for about 10 days. I decided to move up to see what would happen. If my CCLL is 30, I will know very shortly! Plus, I was bored, so I hope my CCLL isn't 30. It was not last year, closer to 50. We will see, new year, whole new me.

Re: Moving On To Rung 2

if one plans to never eat a rung then one can skip it but needs to find a way to get the nutrtion from that rung in other ways.

so if you have a calcuim phosphorus and magnesium food to replace the fresh dairy with that will give you protein and some fats along wiht the carbs go for it. Dr Atkins thinks nuts are a super food.

My favorite nuts are macadamia, cashews and almonds. I'm not not mistaken, if I add something new in, I'm only allowed to eat it 3 days a week? Is that correct?

Yes, you eat a new food only 3 times a week. The other days you eat foods you've already eaten.

Keep in mind that the limit of cashews is 1/2 ounce per day ... as opposed to 1 ounce for the macadamias and almonds.
