    Re: Scaling back the carbs

you are taking that out of contexted. The paragraph says
    " Proceed with Caution!
If you have decided to move to phase two, I want to remind you not to regard it was a time to cut loose and undo all the good work you have just completed. Ongoing weight loss has a cuple of fundamental differences from induction, which I will explain in chapter 14, but it is also very similar to induction in that you continue to derive the majority of your carbohydrates from veggetables low in carbs. You will add more portions of veggietables, and most people are later able to add nuts seeds and even some berries. It is important to understand you will not be shifting significantly way from the protein and fat to carbs although you will be gradually changing the ratio of carbs to that of fat and protein."

as we can see he was talking about rung one of OWL not the entire OWL plan when he said you will continue to derive the majority of your carbs from the veggies

2big, I read that paragraph differently than you do. The way I read it, Dr. Atkins is not referring exclusively to OWL Rung 1.

if he is not talking about rung one why does he use the words later add.. to describe rungs 3 and 4?

nor does he ever use those words, eat the majority of our carbs from veggies, in the OWL chapter where he says he will explain the differences from induction.

I'm with 2big on this one. But I agree that it is hard to go wrong with veggies.

He absolutely says that in Rule #3 of Induction. I can't imagine that his advice would change much in OWL!

You too are quoting out of context the sentance says
if he is not talking about rung one why does he use the words later add.. to describe rungs 3 and 4?

nor does he ever use those words, eat the majority of our carbs from veggies, in the OWL chapter where he says he will explain the differences from induction.
yes he says that in DANDR chapter 11 for induction where carbs are limited to just 20 net total.
the discussion was about a quote from chapter 13 about OWL He does not say that about OWL other then in the paragraph from chapter 13 and as we can all read Dr Atkins says
              " Proceed with Caution!
If you have decided to move to phase two, I want to remind you not to regard it was a time to cut loose and undo all the good work you have just completed. Ongoing weight loss has a couple of fundamental differences from induction, which I will explain in chapter 14, but it is also very similar to induction in that you continue to derive the majority of your carbohydrates from veggetables low in carbs. You will add more portions of veggietables, and most people are later able to add nuts seeds and even some berries. since he added the part about most people are later able to add nuts... which clearly indicated the part he said before that did not deal with OWL beyond rung one.

there is no need to clarify WITH THE WORDS later add if he was speaking about all of OWL as having the majority of our carbs from veggies.
