  • First day of induction menu... starving.

So after Day 1 of Induction I'm starving. I simply didn't get enough calories I think.

Breakfast: 2 eggs scambled, 3 pieces bacon, 14 oz. coffee with 1.5oz heavy cream
Lunch: 1 cup Romaine lettuce, 2 pieces (2 servings) Polska Kielbasa
Dinner: 4oz round steak broiled, baked cauliflower dish (1 cup cauliflower, 2 Tblespoons butter), 1 cup romaine
Small evening snack because I was gnawing my arm: 12 pepperoni slices nuked for a minute and a cup of herbal tea (no caffeine)

According to Fitday I was at around 1200 calories once I had the pepperoni. I easily consumed 100 oz water even without the tea or coffee. I am still seriously hungry. This is my second time around, and I never had a hunger problem last time. My downfall was those darn bars . From Fitday:

    Calories Eaten Todaysourcegrams cals%totalTotal: 1200 Fat:93 835 71% Sat:44 393 33% Poly:5 47 4% Mono:27 246 21%Carbs:12 34 3% Fiber:4 0 0%Protein:78 311 26%Alcohol:0 0 0%

Any suggestions? Cheese is out (very allergic).

    Thanks,
    Paul

    Looks good
It's your first day-I'd eat all the meat I wanted if I was you,
all the fat will get you into ketosis quicker, then your apettite will fall.

I agree with wise, a 270 pound man could eat a 10 oz steak if he wanted to, and the whole hunk of pepperoni. Lettuce isn't very filling, maybe some caulflower with melted butter, fresh broccoli, jicama. Go eat another snack.

I think I need to pre-cook some stuff and have it in the fridge like turkey breast. If I don't have anything handy like that it just leads to me making bad decisions!

I would echo what the others have said, Paul - if you are hungry then eat something highfat and 'legal'

Try not to focus on calories (I know it is hard to ignore them when fitday calculates and displays them) as initially it is more important to just follow the eating rules and let your body start to recognise hunger and when you are no longer hungry.

concentrate on getting the most 'value' out of your veg carbs - we are supposed to have over half our carbs from them - and eat different 'salad' vaggies other than lettuce to make you feel fuller.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Look at Higgies Fitday Profile. He odesn't ususally stray far from induction type foods.
You can get to it from his signature
              http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...p?userid=14158

I use my Fitday less regularly now - more as a spotcheck, and look at that - but I don't stick to induction foods.

1200 cals - now wonder you were hungry. 1700 would be a good target - maybe more. How tall are you?

Don't try and eat like a 5 ft 4 in female - you are a big man.

              ---

I don't like cheese. I eat a lot of Greek full fat yogurt. It is not permitted on induction.

I sweeten 5oz with a teaspoon of splenda and trow on 2 oz of mixed berries. Love it. But not for you yet.
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
              he said, 'Don't count calories.'

Re: First day of induction menu... starving.

I'm 5'8, so vaguely like a bowling ball . I ended up having another piece of kielbasa last night and it seemed to do the trick. I woke up this morning with a wicked induction headache, but I'm not starving. I honestly wasn't trying to eat at that low a caloric intake, it just worked out that way. I'll try bigger servings today of some of the high fat stuff to see if that helps.

                Thanks,

Re: First day of induction menu... starving.

On day two I was awful - unbelievably awful - felt aggitated and sick.

After that no problems - felt much better very soon and took to Atkins like a duck to water.

Buy in that nice steak for when you feel better. Experiment with olive oil based salad dressings to keep your fat intake up. Tou can even put such dressings on green veggies. I'm in UK so I can't advise what you might find on your supermarket shelf. You will find lots of dressing recepies in our section and elswhere.

Altnough I was not working to a calorie target it settlled to 17-1800 - and so did Higgies.

Take as much excercise as you are able and drink WATER WATER WATER.
