      Rich, can you come and live with me and tell me what to eat and when?!?!? My life would be so much easier.

      Maybe I'll do the bar then....I'm not that fussed on sweet things, only very occasionally, so I can't see it being a problem...stick a bar of choc or a block of cheese in front of me and I'll pick cheese everytime....

      If there is something savory that I could eat instead, I guess I could do that....or maybe that diet coke I have to give up....that might help?

      opefully one of the other brits will come up with a suggestion. It's obviously working, I've lost about a stone and have almost (very almost) dropped a dress size....once I'm down a dress size I'll so know it's working!!!!!

      Thanks for all your help , it's nice to have a fellow brit to talk to....

          In fairness, I suppose you could take anything at along to eat in the blood doning room. I'm sure even Atkins legal foods would be ok. What about some typical, ham and philadelphia cheese roll ups?

            I was wondering that, as they have crisps in there on offer too.....that could be an idea...maybe SSalmon and Cucmber and Philly rollies.....

            Hmmmm....If I take Splenda I could have black tea....? Or a Fruit Tea...?

              Black tea with Splenda would be cool. Just count the splenda towards your daily sweetener allowance.

              Or Black decaffinated coffee?

              Salmon and cucumber on philliy rollies will be perfect!

              And you wont even come off plan! Now that makes everyone a winner!!!!! LOL Get in!!!!!!

                My boyfriends sister has been doing this (but cheating massively) since June 2005, and she's lost loads of weight and dropped 3 dress sizes....so it does make me think that the odd and very small slip up here and there, wont matter too much.

                But, I am trying to be as good as I can be....missing not being able to have the odd take away though, esp moving house this weekend....don't fancy cooking much after that!!

                But hey ho, as I said once I can go into a shop and get into a size 14, not 16, I'll be soooooooo chuffed....been a 12 before so that's my aim!!!

                Salmon, Philly and Cuc then I think....perhaps a tea with Splenda.

                  Hi Emzina

                  It looks as if you have had a good suggestion to take along an Atkins-legal snack and a legal sweetened drink to have while you recover from giving blood.
                  Btw congratulations on giving blood - it is a great civic-minded thing to do.

                  I did a search and found this posting from 2big about how she copes with donating blood
                  I'm a regular donor and have never had issues with blood sugar while doing my Atkins. we need to eat our normal Atkins before-drink to replace the volume of fluids lost during the giving which drops blood pressure and eat an Atkins snack and meal to replace all the stuff we lost. brains need very little carbs BTW almost all areas of the brain function on ketones just fine. Only areas like red cells and parts of the retina must have sugar as they don't contain mitochondria to convert fatty acids to fuels.

                    So there are mixed views.....I'm VERY VERY afraid of passing out, it's my one fear (other than spiders!!) so I'm really worried about not having a the sweet drink after....

                    Is one small cup of OJ really going to kill my Ketosis?

                      Yes OJ will have a negative effect on you (even a small amount).

                      But if you are concerned about passing out, just take a longer seated rest afterwards? I hope you will be ok.

                      But the atkins foods already suggested and the tea with splenda should be a big help.

                          You will eventually, when you move onto the other stages of the diet. But at the moment i'm afraid they are a no no. Have you read the bits on OWL (on going weightloss) and maintenance in the book?

                            Cheating and being able to continue on track is one of those YYMV things (your mileage may vary).

                            Many people report that they have immense difficulty in carrying on with the WOE after even a small cheat, and I always worry that a member might be one of those individuals so I would never suggest they plan to go 'off-plan'.

                            This happens more often with new Atkineers than the 'old hands' too, so it would be better to stay on induction if at all possible in the early days of getting used to things.

                            I would hate not to hear from you over the next few days and then see you posting 'I went into a binge after that orange juice and biscuit and have put on XX pounds'

                              Well, I'm back......I have not binged and in the end couldn't give blood, but I did cheat...

                              We moved house at the weekend and had no food, hadn't eaten all day and my folks bought us a Indian Take Away and a bottle of Champagne!!! Ooops!

                              I only ate the Korma, with no Rice or Naan Bread, and had 2 glasses of champers....

                              That was Friday night and I am now right back on track.

                              Still, my only craving is fruit juice...not chocolate.....weird

                                I'm a Diet Coke lover too and here in the US they have a Diet Coke now made with Splenda. I'm on induction and my husband just bought me some. It's a little sweeter than regular Diet Coke but it'll do. For the most part I stick to water but every once in awhile I have one.
