  • starting over!!!

Hello. I posted my menus a week ago, but around the middle of the week i stopped because I messed up big time. Well anyway I started over. This is my 4th day and here is my menu:
Breakfast- coffee with 2 tablespoons of heavy cream, sweetened with Splenda
Lunch- 2 chicken drumsticks, baked with cole slaw salad- 2 cups cole slaw with 2 tblsp mayo and vinegar, 1 oz cheese
Afternoon- 2 cups of coffee, same as the one in the morning
Dinner- nothing...I heard eating at night is bad so i decided to skip it

        Re: starting over!!!

Some people suggest that eating late at night is not advisable, but I dont know if there have been studies to prove it one way or the other.

On Atkins we are supposed not to go more than 6 hours without eating something, so unless you go to bed early in the evening you ought to have a meal then.

Woah!! I just noticed you only had one meal all day!! You will have Moochiecat wagging her finger at you!!

To get your metabolism working you must eat something in the morning - preferably at least by the time you have been up a couple of hours - to start your body burning fat!!

You dont have to have the 'full monty' (eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes etc) but you need something!!

I never used to eat breakfast all my adult life before Atkins but I now make sure I have at least a couple of meat/cheese rollups or a slice of flax bread with butter and cheese or meat and a little cherry tomato or some celery first thing.

Just as we say 'if you are not exercising you are not truly Atkineering' the same goes if you are not eating at least 3 times a day!!

Trust the Doctor's plan and try it 'by the book'!

awe Cecilia you feel smaller cuz your starving yourself. This isn't a diet to starve yourself. I am going to admit something here that nobody but me and you know so *shhhhh*. When I first started, I didn't have "the book" for the first few days. I saw that I needed more knowledge to understand what is REALLY going on with this diet <not to mention Moochiecat's picture of 'get the book' haunting my dailys>. In any event, I went out and bought Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution <DANDR for short> at a used book store; I paid 4 dollars. I really did ALOT of research on the internet before the book, but I learned alot more after I got it. You need to get it too, or you are going to wind up either starving yourself to death, or completely giving up. This diet is extremely 'doable' and I realize you want QUICK results, but for you, that may not happen. If you get the book, and follow it exact, you will lose weight. I have only lost a few pounds so far..but guess what? I LOST them, and I am eating FAT and I am eating FOOD and I am LOSING WEIGHT! You can do it too! However, you need to do it RIGHT. PLEAAAASE get the book..do it for yourself.
          I did it!!

I do have the book ....i just don't have much time to read it...But whenever I can i read it....The problem is if i don't eat too little food, I overeat. I don't know whats wrong with me but I keep doing either one ..I lost about 60 pounds in 3 months, then after that I gained about 20 Now i just want my old weight back , so I have 20 pounds to lose..Anyway here is what I ate today

6 oz steak with 3 oz mushrooms (after cooking)
            2 oz cheese
            2-3 tbls mayonaise
            0.5 oz salami
Drinks: Diet Coke, 3 cups of coffee, water

I cannot possibly eat lunch I can't cook my food because I have school and none of the food there works for Atkins..

              Re: starting over!!!

That looks like a good breakfast meal.

Can you organise packing yourself something legal to take for lunch? You really do need to have 'a little something' and not go more than 6 hours without eating anything.

                *wagging my finger at you*
                Here comes the tough love!

Cecilia...you have two choices in front of you.

You can sit down, make time to read the book and learn how to do this properly. By doing so you will learn how important eating at regular intervals ins, and you will learn the 'why' behind the diet. It involves some planning and organization, but the results are well worth it.
The diet works..just go to the Before and After forum and look at some pictures.

                or

You can continue to do the 'Cecilia Diet'.
All we ask is that you don't blame Atkins if you get ill from not eating enough, or if you don't get the weight loss you want because your body is trying to hang onto the little food you are feeding it.
We have a sister board that is more geared to supporting low carb diets, so you might want to post there if you want to continue what you are doing. I'm thinking you'll be told much the same there though. You really CAN eat and lose weight...there's no need to go without.

When you read DANDR, you'll understand the reasoning behind it...which is to keep your blood sugars level. Your experiences of overeating might be because you went too long between meals, and your body was crying out so much for food that you couldn't control yourself. Not good. If you eat smaller meals more often through the day (you don't have to cook anything at school. You can pack cheese, veggies and meats with you in a thermal bag) you'll feel better, your blood sugars will stay even and you'll be calmer at mealtimes and not so tempted to over eat.

Honestly, I'm a little concerned about your idea that you should eat less. I would encourage you to talk to either a parent or your doctor about this.

so the choice is up to you. Follow a plan that works, feel better, look better, lose weight at a healthy rate....or do it your way..and ..well...we don't really know what could happen.
I wish you the best and we're all here for you if you choose to do Atkins correctly. I sure hope you do.

                  Re: starting over!!!

I ate more today. Please tell me if it's okay because I think it was too much:
                  Breakfast:
3 cups of lettuce salad with vinegar and 2 tlsp mayo
about 2 oz salami and 4 oz of cheese
2 cups of coffee with 4 tbsp cream
Lunch: 3 slices of fried bacon
Then i was craving so much for something sweet ...its that time of the month so I had to have something and I got about 1/4 a cup of cream with some splenda in it and drank it...It was sweet so it satisfied my craving but I think my calories are too many...
Dinner: 3 eggs and 4 slices of bacon
I calculated the calories to about 1800 when my daily calorie needs are 1700..I will probably excersise more today

                    Re: starting over!!!

Oh and I have a question about this bacon. It says one slice is 35 calories when COOKED...Does that mean after throwing away the fat that melts down at the bottom of the pan??? Because when I cook it together with eggs, I don't throw away anything....

Start over, and follow the book.
You could have easily turned to legal food rather than the chocolate bar and the meal replacement bar. You probaby could have eaten much more than that and stayed legal.

Read the book, learn how to do this correctly and give yourself the best chance possible to succeed.

OKay so the carb controlled sweets are not allowed?? Because in the section of "How to read a food label" It says that you count the net carbs in the foods, and this chocolate bar had 0 net carbs....

                            Re: starting over!!!

                            Cecilia,

you need to read the book. Please. Do yourself a favor. READ THE BOOK. This is non-negotianle. If you don't do this properly, you don't do it at all. If you are not willing to spare the time to read a book, how on earth are you going to find the time for exercise, meal preparation, or anything else which will lead to a healthier body? You have to commit yourself to this whole-heartedly.

Please read the stickies in the induction board, too.

The idea of Atkins as a general and induction in particular is to eat whole unprocessed foods. In an ideal world you shouldn't have coffee or diet coke during induction. And skip those bars. There is a list of allowed foods in the book and in the stickies. Low carb bars are NOT on that list, and for a reason. They are, basically, still junk. Low carb junk, but junk nonetheless.

Please, educate yourself about what to eat - and stop fussing about eating too many calories. Calories do count in the long run, but you need to feed your body properly, you need to eat enough FAT (which will satisfy your hunger) and protein to build a strong new You.

You should opt for a ratio of 65 % fat, 30 % protein and 5 % carbs. You could use fitday to monitor exactly what you are eating - www.fitday.com

And then, maybe you find the time to see for yourself what your body really needs, calorie- and protein-wise. A very useful page is Jennys Low Carb Facts and Figure page - there is a link to a tool where you can calculate your dietary needs.

When you read the book you will learn what to eat and what not to eat. You'll be provided with an Acceptable Foods list. Basically if it ain't on the list, you don't eat it.

Just because a food has 0 net carbs doesn't mean it's 'legal' to eat. You have to know what foods you're allowed and why you aren't allowed them and then you can make better choices.
