I agree, Azra - you do not seem to be eating much!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Been on induction for 2 weeks and not lost anything

are you using your fitday correctly? 1 cup of frozen spinach is about 6 cups raw which ould put you over your 3 cup limit. there is a note in DANDR about veggies that cook down are to be measured raw.
When you don't eat enough cals to be above what the human body considers needed for life it starts to conseve fat andcals and shut down nonessinsial for life functions.

Eating the Atkins plan because it takes more cals to process the fats from mouth to ATP then it does carbs you need more cals jsut to be staying the same. 1200 cals on a high carb diet would bethe same as 1500 on Atkins.

What you doing on your inches lost and for your exercise part of your Atkins? Fit day doesn't track inches and you only got 2 mins yesterday for your workout.

What percentages does fitday tell you?

All we can see is the pie chart which for today seems about right.

Does fitday show you your fibre carbs as well as the total carbs? You need to deduct those from the total to get the net carbs which is what we are counting.

Another thing I noticed is that some of your entries - the omelette and the okra will include fat. Fitday assumes you are using margarine for cooking on the whole which will throw your figures out if you are using butter or oil.

It is better to enter the food like okra as 'fat not added' if you have that option and add your butter or oil separately.

As for the omelette - did you really have '1 cup' of egg (3.4 large eggs)?
When I cook omelettes I enter the ingredients separately - 3 medium eggs, (whole, raw), 0.25 ounces of butter etc to make the figures more correct.

Fitday comes up with 19 grams of fat, 17 of protein and 2 of carbs for that, whereas your fitday shows 24 fat, 22 protein and 5 carbs!!

As well as margarine and 3.4 large eggs fitday will be including 65 grams of milk ( ) and some salt - so if your omelettte is just eggs and some butter to cook it in your entries are wrong and giving you weird numbers!!

To see what ingredients fitday is adding when you select something like 'omelet' click on the name of it and you will be taken to a page where the ingredients are listed, and you can work out if you would be better off entering each item on its own or making a custom entry for YOUR omelette with your ingredients.

Learning how fitday works and getting your ingredients entered correctly is one huge learning curve but once you have got your head around it's quirks it is a very useful tool.

hi. i have misplacced my book. i was checking frozen baby sweetcorn and there is 2.9 g car in 100g of which sugar was 1.9. is this exceptable.

i do use frozen food but always check and spinach was only 1.5 g for 100 g when frozen. i always weigh my food my scale if frozen. i hope i am going in the right direction.

i am still trying to get use to fitday, do excuse me i am new and not use to it.

Weighed my self and measured my self.

                no difference

just hope i dont gain any weight with this much amount of fat??

It takes time to build a new relationship with your body. After all, this engine has been your prisoner for a long time.

Your engine is waiting to see if you are going to keep giving it steady fuel.

                  It needs your loving patience.

It is not appropriate to tell this body that has served you so long and so well through all kinds of wacky treatment, that it only has 2 weeks to meet your egotistical demands for weight loss or you will go back to abusing it again.

Let your body relax, be fed, be renewed, do some healing. Allow your body to set its own time frame for weight loss.

There are lots of exciting processes taking place when you stop filling your tank with carbage and start giving it high grade fuel.

Just because you can’t see what your ego has decided is visible evidence of progress, that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

Ideally, stick to Atkins for a good 3 to 6 months before forming any conclusions.

One way to reassure your body that you are not going to become an unreasonable tyrant again is to give it a chemical signal through the mouth that it is being fed well.

When your body gets a taste of butter and meat fat or chicken skin on your tongue, it knows it ain’t starving, it is living the high life!!!

“Woo Hoo – we are living high on the hog now!”

I know having come from the world of low fat diets that eating butter and fat and chicken skin seems as wicked and indulgent as it gets.

But honestly, when I was adhering to a low fat diet, I just got fatter.

It may be 2006 to us, but as far as our body is concerned nothing has changed, we are still caveman savages surviving outside in a world full of predators.

The body has no concept of a full refrigerator.

Back then our dining options were limited. It pretty much came down to scrabbling for plants and meat.

So our body learned to prevent starvation by wringing as much good as possible out of those measly meals.

So now, it is counting on us to provide some fat in our diet for our own survival.

When we deny it the stuff it needs for survival it gets confused.

And when we give it a bunch of junky over-processed carbage that it can’t reasonably convert to something useful, it really gets confused.

Eat a little bit of butter, enjoy some of the fat.

Reassure your body that it will be fed well on a continual basis and it will reward you by eventually releasing the fat stores it doesn’t need.

In my opinion, corn, of any variety, doesn't belong on your plate during induction.

Re: Been on induction for 2 weeks and not lost anything

Azra, if you dont have your book handy you can find the list of allowed foods here on ADBB in the FAQ forum (click on FAQ in the row of links at the top of each page here). Save that list to your computer (highlight the list and copy/save it to a file) so you can refer to it easily when you cant find your DANDR to check whether a food is 'legal' for you.

In the 14-day forum's 'stickies' is one which has a wallet-sized list of the allowed foods that you can print out and have with you when you buy food, which is very useful too.

Many of us printed out the list several times so we could have one in the kitchen, one at work and one on our person when we started induction just to make sure we didnt make wrong choices.

As tabekat said, sweetcorn is not an induction food - it is a grain really so would come in on the 9th rung of OWL.

The order in which we add different food is not just a question of it having more or less carbs than other foods but depends mainly in its glygimic (sp?) load and the effect it has on our blood sugars, so you do need to stick to the list as given by Dr Atkins.

just hope i dont gain any weight with this much amount of fat??just hope i dont gain any weight with this much amount of fat??
I understand how hard it is to accept that we need to eat fat to lose fat - I think we all had doubts initially, so you are not alone

What tabekat said about our body needing to learn that it will be getting lots of good food from now on (so it doesnt have to store all our fat to help tide us over a famine) is a good way to think of it.

As to your menu yesterday, it still looks as if you are not eating that much but your percentages seemed fairly good to me - maybe a tad high on the protein.

I see you have been adding plain egg plus the oil you cooked it in, well done! That will get your numbers more accurate. Much better than using fitday's default figures of 'omelet'.

I see you didnt eat the skin of your chicken or the fat off your lamb - is this because you dont like it or feel your ought not to be eating it (all those years of low-fat propaganda are hard to fight!) If you like it then leave it on and eat it - if not then make sure you add fat to other foods to balance up.

I LOVE the crispy skin off roasted chicken but I do take the skin off chicken if I am stewing it and fry that separately to make my own 'chicken rinds' to snack on. Sounds gross I know but it's very tasty!!

                          Hi azra
Are you still on induction, or have you started OWL veggies rung?

I ask because yesterday it looks as if you had 4 cups plus a slice of leek and one onion! About right if you are now on OWL, but over if still on induction.

how many net carbs was it ? - I can only see numbers for total carbs, as the net carbs are not displayed to visitors.

i am still on induction although i noticed my veggie intake was rather high that day, however my carb intake was 7%. i though that was about right???
Fat intake 61% and protein intake was 32%. i am thinking on moving on to OWL.

Remember the 65% fat, 30% protien, 5% carb ratio. Also remember onions can tend to be high in sugars so beware.
