  • Please Help!!

    Hey all,

I posted in the STAC board and they sent me here for some help...This is my second time around with Atkins and seem to be struggling this time. I finished Induction on Sunday and only lost 2.5 lbs but even worse I never got that lovely appetite suppression every talks about. I was and still am hungry most of the time. I have the 2002 DANDR and have read it several times, I have read all the stickies and I know what a clean Induction entails. I don't see anything about still being hungry anywhere!!
I also am a personal trainer and work out for an hour give or take everday. I will post my menus for yesterday and today and see what you all have to think...

    --100 oz. water everyday
    Day One
B: 1/6 of a homemade quiche (quiche made of 6 eggs, 1 cup heavy cream, 8 oz cheese and 1 lb all natural nitrate/preservitive/sugar free sausage), 1 cup herbal tea/plain

S: hard boiled free range egg

L: 5.5 oz ground buffalo patty with crumbled all natural sugar fee bacon and blue cheese on top and a side salad made of 2 cups spinach with blue cheese dressing

S: half of another buffalo patty dipped in mustard

D: Shrimp scampi made with roasted red peppers, olive oil, lemon juice and a touch of white wine over 1 cup spaghetti squash, with 2 tbs goat cheese feta

Before bed: 1 cup herbal tea/plain

    Day Two
B: 1/6 of the same quiche as yesterday, 1 cup herbal tea/plain

    S: 1 hb egg

L: Leftover Shrimp scampi from night before prepared the same way

S: other half of buffalo patty with mustard

D: Pot roast made in crock pot with red wine, onion and mushrooms and seasoning, side salad made with two cups romaine and olive oil and vinegar.

Before bed: 1 cup herbal tea plain

Let me know what you all think...This is pretty similar to what I have been eating the whole time. I usually make a couple of quiches and have those for Breakfast and snacks are usually hb eggs and leftover meat from roasts (beef or poultry) that I make a couple of times a week. Lunch is always leftovers from the night before.

    Thanks a bunch in advance!!

    Re: Please Help!!

Have you signed up for FitDay at FitDay.com? You can get a free account and it will automatically tabulate your percentages of protein/fat/carbohydrates you are getting a day (I know someone can help me out with appropriate ratios, I'm bad with numbers!)

What I see is lots of little problems. The wine may be a problem and the salad with vinegar--is that balsamic or white? Red wine vinegar has quite a bit of sugar in it; and I'm not sure about lemon juice, but that may be another problem. Is your tea decaff and are you using a sweetener? The caffine or sweetener might be doing it.

Also you appear to be eating quite a bit of cheese, again, a big stall factor for some people and I know cheese often increases my appetite. Try cutting out the cheese completely for a few days (including switching your salad dressing) and see what happens.

The bottom line is, you're really not doing a completely clean induction (imho--induction means only 3 ounces of cheese a day!) and any of these things could be spurring an appetite.

There's the link for the pocket sized food list. I hope this may be somewhat instructional.

      Re: Please Help!!

      Killerbombshell,

My cheese is ALWAYS no more then 3 oz. It was only a sprinkle on most of those meals, basically to add flavor, except at breakfast. But 8 oz. in the quiche divided by 6 only comes out to 1.33 oz. and I don't snack on it. I try to very careful with this because I know how easy it is to overeat cheese.

As for the tea it is always herbal, which has no caffeine, I don't tolerate caffeine well and it is ALWAYS PLAIN. I don't use artificial sweeteners.

And as for the wine and vinegar...it was about a 1 tbs of dry white wine and a touch of lemon juice (which I believe is on the induction list) for 6 servings of the scampi and it is cider vinegar (which is different then other vinegars) on the salad. Am I too have the salad with only oil?? I would think that oil and cider vinegar would be a better choice then other dressings??

I have done spot checks on Fitday and my ratios usually come out to 65-70/25-30/less then 5. Which looking at the stickies is where I should be??

I think that covers your response...

      Thanks again for the help.

Does the quiche have crust?? What about water and exersise?? Do you eat out alot, they can add stuff to food you would never guess.
What would we do without it?

I think you're doing great. Remember, one can expect to lose between 5 and 10% of your total weight loss during induction. You're right on track. In fact you're at 10%! You're exercising and following the rules. Keep up the good work. Don't be afraid to move to OWL!

sunflowergirl, No crust on the quiche!! I workout everyday, drink 100 + ounces of water and eat out maybe twice a month. So I don't think those are problems...at least not right now. Thanks for the help, though...

Isabeau, Thanks for the positive response. I feel like I am doing things right, I guess I just needed confirmation from others who have been there, done that. I think it will be harder this time around then before but at least it is going down. Eating any other way and that would not happen for me. I also reread a bunch of Protein Power Lifeplan this weekend and reminded myself of the science behind low-carb and why it works. That really helped out with the mental part of it for me!! I am the "How does that work?" kind of thinker.

Thanks again for all the help and suggestions everyone, you all are the greatest!

You have a 22 pound weight loss goal. You lost 2.5 pounds during Induction. Everyone can expect to lose 5 to 10% of the weight they want to lose during Induction. So, you've lost slightly more than 10%---which is terrific.
