  • Trying to have a clean induction

As you have already read in my thread title, I want to do a clean induction. I am on day 5, and have been eating a similar menu each day since I began.

    Breakfast - between 8:30-9:00 AM
2 large hard boiled eggs (chicken)
1 large cup of regular black coffee

    - I know that coffee, and all caffeine, is considered a no-no on induction, but I read that its because of increased sugar cravings & not because it interferes with ketosis. Since I do not get cravings from coffee, and I need my one cup in the morning to function properly (for the time being), I decided not to cut it out. But please tell me if I need to in order to have a *clean* induction.

    Lunch - between 12:00 - 1:00 PM
1 cup of mixed salad greens (lettuce & raw spinach leaves)
1 cup of mixed raw veggies (peppers, broccoli, mushrooms, onions)
    1 grilled boneless chicken breast
1 - 2 table spoons of crumbled blue cheese (1 oz.?)
2 table spoons of olive oil
1 table spoon of balsamic vinegar.

    - so basically I have a salad with diced up grilled chicken breast, a little blue cheese, and a drop of oil & vinegar dressing. I only drink water with my meals. - the cup of coffee in the morning being the only exception.

    Dinner - 5:00-6:00 PM
Beef or chicken - usually as much as I want until I am no longer hungry - but never until I am stuffed.
1 cup of salad greens (lettuce)
1-2 table spoons of balsamic vinagrette dressing (made from olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and 4 seasons Itallian dressing (which has 2 carbs per serving)

-for dinner, usually I eat my salad portion with the dressing, and include as much meat as I need to satisfy my hunger. Usually its a little more than two servings (like two chicken breasts w/ skin, or 3 turkey/beef burgers, or a full steak & some nibbles off another steak. As before I only drink water with my meals.

I would say that I drink plenty of water all day long. Not only do I only drink mutliple glasses of water with my meals, but throughout the day I am constantly drinking water, and going to the bathroom. I would say I drink an average of 10 - 12 16 oz. glasses of water a day.

I also take a daily multi-vitamin - GNC Mega Man multi-vitamin, and Omega 3,6,& 9 essential fatty acids supplements (since i hate seafood, this is really the only way for me to make sure I get the nutrients my body needs)

I also walk briskly everyday before lunch for about a mile, some of which is uphill. Its by no means a hardcore workout, but I am coming off of a pretty non-active lifestyle, so its a good start for me. My heart rate is picked up, and I can feel it in my legs.

Oh...and I almost forgot. I started Induction this past monday, 6/5/06
    I'm male, 5"6, 27 years old.
    200 lbs. to start
    160 lbs is my goal.

    So....how am I doing?

Hi there, there are a lot more experienced people like 2Big in here to answer your questions but I was told Balsamic Vinegar was definately not allowed so I've stuck to Apple Cider Vinegar and also learned it has a lot of health benefits. Did you have any veggies with your breakfast?

No balsamic vinegar? Got it! What about regular vinegar?

And no veggies with breakfast - just the 2 hardboiled eggs. Maybe on the weekend I will incorporate some peppers into an omellette for breakfast - but its hard to do that during the week.

Why? Should I be incorporating veggies into my morning meal, even though I am getting my full servings during lunch & dinner?

I learned you have to spread them out during the day at each meal (Your 3 cups) because the fiber and fat in your meals are what fill you up and satisfy your hunger. If you only have a short time to eat in the morning slice up some green peppers, cucumber or mushrooms and put it in a baggy to go along with your boiled eggs. I'm not sure about regular vinegar, I've never used it because I've always stuck with the Apple Cider Vinegar which tasted pretty good. You are allowed to have 2 Tbsp of Ranch Dressing if you like that but if you find that it stalls you ditch it.

Yeah, the balsamic is a no-no. I used Red Wine Vinegar, which also might not be the best, but it's better than balsamic.

It's a good idea to spread veggies (carbs) throughout the day so your body processes them more efficiently. I admit I am not too good at this and usually have mine at either lunch and dinner or one or the other.

OK, so I will cut out the balsamic vinegar..... Just out of curiosity, why is balsamic vinegar such a no no, but red wine vinegar (is that the same as red vinegar?) and apple cider vinegar allowed? Is the carb amounts that different? Balsamic vinegar has 2-3 carbs in it per serving - if I remember correctly.

Starting tomorrow (since I had breakfast already today) I will add some veggies to my morning meal. It shouldn't be as difficult as I was letting on. After all in the grand scheme of losing weight and being healthy - adding veggies to breakfast doesn't exactly make the cut into the "difficult" catagory.

If you read down your allowed foods list again you will find this section
For salad dressing, use oil and vinegar (but not balsamic vinegar, which contains sugar) or lemon juice and herbs and spices. Prepared salad dressings without added sugar and no more than two carbs per tablespoon serving are also fine.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                Thank you so much!

However, as I am reading this, I am having my salad for lunch - and today I chose blue cheese salad dressing made by Ken's Steakhouse Dressings. Its 2 grams of carbs per serving. But I noticed sugar in the ingredients.

I don't know if this is "sugar added" or if its ok. Any idea?
