  • Wondering what's wrong...

    I have been doing Atkins since May 13th. I have only lost 14 pounds since then and the first 6 were during the first week! I took my measurements on June 25th and again on July 25th and lost a total of 4 inches. I don't really feel like that is very much. I got discouraged 2 weeks ago and cheated but have now been cheat free for 2 weeks.

    I have tried using FitDay but I get frustrated when trying to enter dishes that are prepared from a recipe where I don't have the calculations of calories etc. I don't have a lot of time to put into entering each thing. 1pound suggested that I post my menu here to see if there is anything that I am doing that may be slowing me down. I am willing to try anything and would really appreciate some input.

    Here is what I ate yesterday (a pretty typical day for me).

    Breakfast
    2 eggs (fried)
    2 sausage link
    1 16oz can caffeine free diet coke

    Snack
    2 celery sticks (equaling 1 stalk)

    Lunch
    Rotisserie Chicken (1 leg and about 2 oz. breast meat)
    1 cup zucchini casserole

    Snack
    Sugar Free Jello
    2 oz cheddar cheese

    *drank 100 oz of water throughout day

    Dinner
    2 cups red leaf lettuce
    3 grape tomatoes
    2 Tbsp ranch dressing
    1 1/2 pieces of Whooshie pie

    I have started walking in the evening (about 1 1/2 miles) and am doing abs each night. I know that I need to up the exercise. Could this be my problem. I thought about moving up a rung but am not really hungry and I am already losing so slowly, I don't want to slow it even further!

    Hey girlie,

    After looking at your menu, these are my thoughts:

    1. Give up the Diet Coke or switch to Diet Rite. Diet Coke has aspartame in it and that could be stalling you. Remember you are limited on artificial sweetners per day also.

    2. Add fat or protein to your celery snack. What about cream cheese on your celery? Even though this is a veggie, it is just carbs you are eating for a snack. You need to balance it (to prevent a surge in your glucose) with a fat or a protein.

    3. Give up the Sugar Free Jello -- it is made with aspartame (same deal as with the Diet Coke). Find a sucralose/Splenda alternative for a snack. What about drinking a decaf hot/cold tea at night?

    4. Check your Ranch dressing and see if there is sugar in the ingredients.

    I hope this helps. If you need alternatives to some of these things, please post and all of us can help you with picking new food choices.

      Thanks Kat. I will definitely try those things. I never thought about cream cheese with the celery.

      the Ranch dressing is ok, although I did buy some Bacon/Ranch that had sugar in it. (I stopped using it right away).

      I will let you know how I'm doing. Maybe it's too much sweetener?

        diet rite is ok?

        my diet coke was stalling me.. so that could be your problem!!!

          Yes, Diet Rite is okay because it has Splenda and no caffeine in it. You just have to watch drinking too much because it will stall you too. I try to get all my water in first before drinking anything else...and sometimes I have a little with my supper. But, I seem to lose better when I just drink water. Right now I've surprised myself and am learning to love it (water)!

            awesome.... I drink TONS of water... at least 250oz a day... but I love having something sweet as a drink and that will definitely help
            I have to do my meat grocery shopping tonight so I will pick some up!

              Great advice given. I would definitely follow these suggestions. Nix the Diet Coke and the SF Jello. Keep us updated and good luck!
