  • Not eating enough calories ?

    Ok .. I dont know if have been eating enough the past couple days.. I DO Know I have been eating wayyyyy too much cheese. Last night especially becasue my kids/hubby had pizza and I scooped the cheese off a couple slices.. so bad .. lol

    If I cut cheese out .. I lose like 3-400 calories off my menu .. YIKES !

    But even still I am having a hard time getting up past 1200-1300 calories. Any suggestions on how to add to my menus but not with Mayonaise or butter??

    What's wrong with mayo and butter?

    Crackers? Imitation cheese?

    First off, are you eating until you're satisfied? Do you find yourself hungry throughout the day?

    I've never been a big fan of eating just to hit numbers. Our bodies cycle. Some days we're ravenous, other days - not so much.

    Now, if you're someone who subscribes to the BMR theories and calorie levels, then adding calories to your day isn't tough at all. It's as simple as another tablespoon of dressing, another couple ounces of meat, adding a snack of hard boiled eggs or something. Just a couple of those things will add another 200-400 calories to your day with little to no effort. Mix your hb eggs with a little mayo (still don't understand whats wrong with mayo and butter?!) and BAM....instant calorie spike with all the benefits of the fat- which is what Atkins is alllll about.

    General rule of thumb for success: If it requires a degree in chemical engineering to pronounce it, you probably shouldn't eat it.

      You absolutely have me on the cripsbread.. the imatation cheese was actually Tofu which I thought it was on the allowed list.

      Butter is fine .. but I dont like mayo I just have a hard time meeting my calories by putting more butter on them. Old Pet peeve I need to lose. I am not afraid of eating fat.. just butter .. lol

      And sometime I am definately still hungry but trying to keep the ratios in order and eat enough it hard.

        So how about ranch dressing instead? Or blue cheese? Add a tablespoon or two of olive oil to the pan when you're cooking.

        If you're hungry- EAT! It means you need to eat more. Stick to the allowed foods list, see how you do, keep close track and then make the necessary tweaks, but there is no reason...ever...for you to be hungry!!

            Thank you both! Will make an effort to keep my meals super clean of any non-legal foods.

            I still have 3 days left on induction and have seemed to stop losing weight last Sat. Could be a number of reasons but I wanted to adress my menu/calories first.

              It doesn't look from that menu like you are eating too much cheeses, except maybe the imitation cream cheese, which isn't actually cheese at all!!

              Crackers are definitely not on the allowed list for induction, nor, looking back over your days, are macademia nuts, or apricot preserve. Or (though I know it was the first day, but it can't count as an induction day) pizza (118 carbs!!)

              I know it seems like a little thing here and a little thing there, but they count.

              You need to look at two things:
              1. This is a HIGH fat diet - eat more fat!!!!
              2. The feeling that if you are hungry that's somehow ok. It isn't - if you are hungry, eat. Forget about calories altogether for the moment.

              To increase your calories you simply needs more fat, along with the foods you are already eating. Salad dressing, olive oil, avocado and cream (ditch the half & half) are all good sources that will up both your calories and your fat very effectively.

                I Knew having another set of eyes on my menu would give me a reality check..

                Sometimes there are things that were unavoidable such as the apricot preserves .. I grilled pork chops ... 2 for me without .. and the rest for the family with. I got them mixed up and ate one with the preserves by accident.

                I'll keep trucking along, I am heading out to the gorcery store tomorrow to get more types of dressings and more legal foods.

                Thanks again .. hopefully I'll be able to get back and stay on track now.

                  Tofu is fine if you count it in with your 3-4 ounces of cheese, Dr Atkins knew what we now call tofu as 'soy cheese'
