  • Troubleshooting: It is not working!

    Hi all
I have been in induction for 10 days and I am not losing weight. I lost some the very first couple of days but none since, I may even have gained a pound. Here is what I am eating. I thought I was doing the right thing but maybe there is a problem I am not spotting:

    Breakfast
Eggs, scrambled - two or three
chicken or meat patti (home make no fillers) or ham (cooked)
    Leaf of romaine
Piece of red pepper (1 ring) or celery (1/3 stalk)
1/2 Atkins vanilla shake on ice cubes
    I vitamin and mineral supplement
    1 cup decaf coffe

Lunch: Useally chef salt consiting of
    A small piece of cucumber
    Green lettuce (1 cup?)
    celery
    red pepper (1 ring)
Chicken 1/2 cup (broiled and cut up - no skin)
    cheese (gouda) 3 sticks

    Supper
Cheese burger (home made no bread no condiments) or,
    Beef fried or,
    Chicked broiled (no skin) or,
Ham, cooked and fried (no sugar)
Salad of greens 1/2 cup, homemade viagrette dressing

    Snacks:
sugar free jello (not every day)
decaf with cream ( some days)
I decaffeined coke or other softdrink sweetened with aspartaime (not daily)

I drink plenty of water - over two litre per day
And I try to keep active. Not exercise but I walk around the block and try to walk rather than drive and that sort of stuff

    Start weight 165 pounds
    Right now 161 pounds
    Day 10 of induction
    Height 5'2''

Hope you can tell me if my diet is off or what else/more I can do. What is my next move?

First thing everyone is going to tell you is to get rid of the Atkins shake...and the Sugar Free Jello and see if that helps

I agree with Sandy. Additionally, drop the aspartame diet drink. Aspartame, according to Dr. Atkins, is a staller. And be sure to count each serving of an artificially sweetened food/drink as one of the 3 daily sweeteners we are allowed to have.

Also, you have lost weight---4 pounds according to what you've written. Make the changes and see what happens.

Ok will do - and thanks.
Can you tell me what is "wrong" with the shake or the jello? Is it the amount of sweetner that is the problem? I am just asking cause I like to know the reasoning behind stuff.

Re: Troubleshooting: It is not working!

I don't see much fat, unless you didn't list the fat. I see scrambled eggs--what are they prepared with?? Real butter?? Olive oil?? I see chicken without the skin--that's where all the fat is. Broiled chicken with no skin has almost no fat content. Does your vinaigrette dressing have oil or fat of some kind??? Atkins is high fat, not high protein--especially in Induction. If you consume too much protein, it can/will be turned into glucose by your body.

Make sure that you count all the carbs in cheese--1 carb for each ounce. All cheese has some carb count. If the package says zero carbs, then they have made the serving size low enough to get under the wire of having to count it. You can only have 3 to 4 ounces of hard cheese and/or cream cheese per day. Cream also has carbs, and there is a limit that you can consume on induction--2 to 3 tablespoons per day.

I would suggest for your next move, start logging everything you eat or drink. You are only allowed 3 servings of artificial sweetners per day. You have to count, by serving size, what the artificially sweetened products contain. Your decaf Coke most likely has more than one serving per can/bottle. The packets of Splenda, etc. have carbs. You must count them.

Try some of these suggestions and I'm pretty sure the weight will start coming off again. 4 pounds, at your weight, is nothing to sneeze at. The more overweight you are the more weight you lose at the beginning. Throw in some exercise, and it will come off faster, yet!

          Sunny!

Re: Troubleshooting: It is not working!

            Thanks,
I actually started logging everythin with Fitday (after I learned about it here. Very helpful). I have been adding all the carbs I can think of - and I realize cheese have them.
I have been keeping under 20 carbs.
Here is my protein fat ratios:
            Wednesday 105 Fat, 116 Protein, 16 carbs

            Thursday 89 Fat, 90 Protein, 13 carbs ( a day of low appetite day , I think)

I can add more fat if needed for sure. I use butter when making the eggs and olive oil when frying the meat.

I am glad to have new things to try. I was getting frustrated.

You guys rock. Keep 'em coming.

I believe that is enough fat. I just wasn't seeing it in your list of foods. You might back off a bit on protein for a few days to see if that helps.

                Are you exercising every day?
And ummmm are you (sorry) regular?
Don't weigh yourself for 2 weeks, and see if you appetite decreases the longer you stay on induction.

Re: Troubleshooting: It is not working!

The shakes are known stallers/slower downers for a great deal of people. Why it is that way, I don't know. Maybe for some folks their bodies don't "see" the net carbs and see it as the total carbs listed? Maybe for some folks an ingredient(s) mess them up? Whatever the case, they are stallers for some folks.

As for the artificial sweeteners, Dr. Atkins put a limit on them for two reasons: they caused stalls/slow downs in some folks and he didn't think artificial anything was good for our health in the long run.

Re: Troubleshooting: It is not working!

                    Hello,

I would like to know how many calories you are consuming. It doesn't say in your menu how many calories. I know they say not to worry about calories but, they do count and I can vouge for that. The shakes are nastie little things not only are they full of aspertame but, they are also full of fillers a knows staller for many people.

How much water are you drinking. It says you have decaff coffe and pop where is the water. With any weight loss program your body releases toxins, your body also stores toxins in your fat cells. Without a way to remove these toxins IE water then you end up with a big problem. You ahve circulating fat and toxins in your body and without the available fluids to flush this out, not only can the fat redistibute itself in your body the toxins that have been released can also cause havoc on your body causing lack of weight loss. ASPERTAME is a toxin and will be stored in your fat cells. I have done a lot of reading on this and the more toxins your body has the more likely your body is to store fat. Fat is like a safety for your body when it is toxic it puts the toxins inside the fat to protect your body from them and the more you take in the harder and more likely it is that your body will hang onto fat. This is one of the big reasons we tell you to stay away from processed food and the shakes.

I hope I helped you out. I am in the process of removing all the bad stuff from my diet to try and help me with my medical conditions. It's amazing how the body defends itself when invaders come into play.

Thanks for the info about the Shakes. I have shelved them for now. Avoiding the soft drinks as well.
To answer some of the questions. I am regular.

According to my fit day counts I have consumed calories as follows.
                      Nov 21: 1500
                      Nov 22: 1226
                      Nov 23: 1204
                      Nov 24: 1428

What is the average of calori consumption I should be aiming for?

I drink water. I do not count the other drinks in my water count.

                        Liv,
I agree with everyone on the Atkins shakes and aspartime. If I have the shakes or the bars especially the Enduldge bars I find my weight loss will stall or even go up. Watch the lunch meat/processed meat if your having that, and look at the ingrediants on the ham I found that one of the hams I bought for thanksgiving had sugar in it.How is your salt intake? Processed meats and ham could have alot of salt too. Aspartime will make you stall limit it as much as you can or stop having it for right now. Water Water Water.

                        Good luck
                        Robin

I carefully read the ham ingredients - No sugar listed and the label says 0 carbs. (I am surprised how many foods have sugars, never thought about that before)
Not sure about my salt though. I guess I have to keep an eye on that one.

I would suggest to stay away from artificial sweeteners altogether. These can stall you big time, even Splenda may. They can trigger cravings too.

Keep 'em coming.

what are the percentages in at?

On the wednesday you had 105 fat and 116 protein....if fat should be at 65% and protein at 30% - we're wrong here arent we?

excessive protein could make you gain you might want to cut back on that.

As you're using fitday try and get your percentages to work out at 65% fat 5% carb and 30% protein

Other than that i echo the others at drop the shakes, why? look at the ingredients, whats in there can only be on the acceptable foods list, if theyre not, it aint legal, shakes were something brought out to make money, stay away!

S/f jello - whats it sweetened with? aspartame? Dr A said thats a known staller for weightloss in the most of us!

once you've sorted all that out i'd look at your processed foods, yes even though the ham doesnt list sugar, (mine doesnt either!) it still stalls me!

Calories - http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ theres a BMR calculator, enter your stuffs and it will tell you what your BMR is, you shoult eat, AT or slightly above your BMR, dependent on the amount of exercise you do...

On that note, are you exercising?
