  • YIKES.....he ate what?

so this morning....because of its cholesterol lowering aspects, i did have 1/2-cup of oatmeal for breakfast. about 27 carbs ........but get this, just for fun, i mixed it with some frozen blueberries and some flax seed!! so yes.....i know i had the oatmeal and i should be scolded but....mark my words....i will be below 250 on xmas morning, thus achieving my second mini-goal. ***still keep fingers crossed just in case***

    always smiling,
    chris

He chris you can eat oatmeal just do it on the right rung. AS you climb OWL many new foods are added in.

Atkins is cholesterol lowering anyway. No need to eat something before the appropriate rung.

Chris~ I have all the confidence you are good to go with the oatmeal. You are doing GREAT! What a nice X-mas present to see- 1rst goal achieved. I am not an expert, but I think as long as you don't eat it every day, you'll be okay.
I bet with all those squats & push ups you have been doing, your body is looking great.

This time of year, I miss it so much up in NJ. Is is really cold out? Do you think it'll be a white x-mas? It usually doesn't get bad with snow until like middle of January- Feb, but the weather has been so crazy, you never know. I remember my first x-mas down here in S. Florida (1989). It was like between 75*- 80* and it did not feel like x-mas at all . Now I am used to it, I guess. But man do I really miss it up there sometimes. I am coming back up there in the begining of May. What a nice time of year to be there too. I guess you know that though.

It's the soluble fiber in oatmeal (or any food for that matter) that allegedly helps lower cholesterol. 1/2 cup of oatmeal has only 2 grams of soluble fiber. You can get more soluble fiber in a serving of psyllium husks, Fibersure, Benefiber or other fiber supplements.

Chris, you need to do the rungs in the proper order.

I agree that when you get to the right rung, you CAN eat oatmeal, but now is not the time. You haven't even figured out how your body will react to lower-GI foods, and you bombard it with a large dose of carbs. OWL is a gradual process, testing out foods that are added back into the diet based on glycemic index. Foods on lower rungs are generally "safer" and do not cause as many blood sugar spikes (generally) as higher rung foods.

Save oatmeal for when you've earned it, after you've climbed the 9 rungs of OWL. Please don't use your book as a paperweight or a doorstop--it's intended to be read cover-to-cover and followed as directed. If you don't, you're doing cgdat136-kins, not Atkins.
