  • day 1 menu

im on my ump-teenth start of atkins but im not losing site of my goal. as of today i weigh 167, want to weigh about 130.

so i plugged in the numbers to fitday and came up with 76/5/18. i was kinda upset but i read one of the stickies that said 70% fat isnt really that devastating.. i hope they're right but here goes...

breakfast.. 4 slices of butterball turkey bacon

lunch.. steak-um diced up with 1 whole onion sauteed in butter. probably one and half tbsps of mayo, and a wedge of a roma tomato.

snack.. fried up some parmesan crusted chicken fingers (dipped in egg, then cheese, and fried in oil.)

    snack again... 1oz provolone shredded

dinner... 2cups lettuce (jsut to get it in, i kno thats not good) and chicken in ranch dressing, hot sauce, cream cheese sauce. (its buffalo chicken dip, just without the tortillas.)

i ended up eating 25 carbs. i guess it coulda been worse, and i know the chicken dip was the downfall. i really thought it would be atkins friendly til i mistakenly put in fatfree dressing. argh. someone mentioned that i should try to spread my veggies out more.. but how? thank you.

Not only that you should spread them out throughout the day, but veggies don't mean exclusively lettuce. I can't tell you how to spread the veggie cups unless I give you an example of what I do.

So for breakfast today I had:

    2 slices of swiss cheese
1 cup of salad (lettuce, cucumber, parsley) with cider vinegar and olive oil
    5 canned green olives

    For lunch I will have:

1 chicken fillet (breast), about 3 oz
1 ounce of cooked spinach without salt
1 cup of salad (radishes, celery, peppers, parsley) with cider vinegar and olive oil

    And for dinner:

Fish fillet (sea bass), about 3 oz
    1 ounce of camembert cheese
    1 hard-boiled egg
1 cup of salad (cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes) with cider vinegar and olive oil

So in this way I have 3 cups of salad spread throughout the day. It's better to use cider vinegar instead of balsamic vinegar because it has less carbohydrates.

I eat more or less the same each day (I live on campus, so the menu is not too diversified) and the percentages fat/protein/carbs come out very close to the ideal ones. Plus this menu is relatively low in cholesterol.

do you use the apple cider vinegar? i had some in the cupboard, but it didnt have nutritional info so i didnt put it on my salad. today i think i did a little better altho good lord my calories topped out at almost 2000! that seems soooo high to me, but im trusting in this...

brkfst (woke up around 1pm )
4oz ground meat and taco seasoning on a bed of romaine, sliced tomatoes, 3oz shredded cheddar and 1tbsp of sour cream.

      snack
tuna fish with mayo and a litl celery. (maybe 1/3 cup)

      snack again
      fried up some pepperoni slices

      dinner
2 cups romaine lettuce, a couple slices of cucumber and tomato, bacon chunks, a hardboiled egg, a litl mozzerella (i counted it as an oz.) with olive oil and garlic salt sprinkled on top.

im stuffed to the gills, but right now its only 730 where i am. i ended up with 74/3/23 for my percentages too. i thought i did good on the carbs today, but i guess im a little low. they came out at 19. everyday will get easier, im sure. thank u for takin the time to read

Your numbers are perfectly fine - don't worry about the fat percentage AT ALL, just eat it. You may need to be concerned later about calories, but during induction just eat to your appetite.

Yes, I use apple cider vinegar. It has 2 g of carbohydrates in 1 cup (239 g), so 1 tbsp has almost 0 carbs. I use NutritionData to check and store my daily menus, so you can give it a try: http://www.nutritiondata.com

Your menu definitely looks more interesting than mine. However I live on campus, so I have very limited options for each meal.
