  • Does this menu look ok?

    I am just starting out with Atkins and want to make sure I am on the right track for intro.

    Breakfast
    2 egg whites
    5 p. bacon
    1cup. Coffee black

    Snack
    4oz. cheese

    Lunch
    1cup creaser salad
    4oz. chicken
    1p. bacon
    2tbsp. dressing

    Snack
    2 whole eggs
    1tbsp. mayo

    Dinner
    1cup steamed broccoli
    1 large turkey burger
    1cup mixed greens

    And of course, water, I drink at the least 2 liters a day!

    In total- I used fitday to calculate

    Fat 58% - 96.1grams
    Carbs 4% - 16.9grams
    Protein 37% - 129.2 grams

    Cal-1467

    I don’t think this is high enough, but I cant see myself eating more!?! Any suggestions on where something could be added?

    I am 5’8 and weigh 178 pounds

    Thanks for any help or suggestions!

    We count net carbs, so you need to subtract the fiber.

    That's a lot! I know 4 ounces is "allowed", but less might be better. You might try having some vegetables as a snack ...

    What kind? What's the list of ingredients?

      Most days I can hardly get breakfest down, and egg whites are not heavy and bacon is an easy nibble.

      And the 4oz. of cheese was an oops I meant to put four slices off a block.
      The caesar salad I will be making at home.

      The other dressing will just be lemon and olive oil.

      The turkey burger is just turkey I made up a whole bunch.

      So if I am only doing net carbs then I guess I am even more off, since my fiber is 4.7g. which will make my carbs only 12.2

      So if I already have my 3cups of veggies, can I still add more?

        There's ways to get the 12-15 net carbs from vegetables and still keep it to 3 cups. You can look at the 2nd list.

        I would be less concerned with the cups limit than I would be with undereating in carbs.

          It will be really helpful to YOU if your Fitday is accurate ... so you should correct the cheese.

            Is it because you're not hungry?

            Yes, most morning I can't even stand the smell of food, so ya, not all that hungry, but I have been just eating anyway.

            Thanks for your help, I didn't think I should worry to much about the cups, and carbs are what rerally matter, but I'm just trying to follow the rules the best I can.

              Maybe have something cold? A portion of leftover dinner?

              You don't have to eat the moment you get up ... I'm generally up for about an hour before I eat.

              Some people have a "snack" when they get up ... and then a more real breakfast a few hours later (but before lunch).

              You just don't want to skip "breakfast".

              And ... as time goes on, your hunger may change.

                If breakfast is an issue perhaps you could try egg cream - very nutritious,
                We discussed it here


                You could experiement a bit with more dense vegetables - rather than just salad to get that count up a bit. And remember to add in fats. It should be around 65% of daily calories.
                I thought your menu was very clean - no sweeteners or franken foods . I like that.
