  • Menu check, please!

My menu for today has been the following:

    B- 2 tbsp heavy cream
    1 cup cooked spinach
    2 eggs
    1/2 tsp. butter

    L- 1 can tuna
    2 tbsp mayo
    28 g raw celery
    1 egg
    29 g romaine lettuce

D- 1 chop cooked in 1 tsp olive oil
    salad made with:

    43 g Romaine
    45 g grape tomatoes
    17 g raw spinach
    93 g bell peppers
Dressing was a little olive oil with white vinegar and a little red pepper flakes.

Ok...I come up with 12.33 net carbs from fitday. Still not near 20 net carbs. What should I do? Or am I totally wrong altogether?

    Thanks for the input......Cin

The 20 net carbs is a maximum, not a minumum, so your counts are fine. As long as you are getting 'most' of however many net carbs you are eating from your veggies you are on track

I am not sure how many cups in total your veggies amounted to though.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

How many calories are in that menu? Not too many, it seems to me.

You can increase your net carbs by choosing more nutritious vegetables. Check your vitamins and minerals in FitDay to see if you are low in any. A nutritionally poor menu is not good for your health.

Elizellen.....Yeah, I'm not sure either...still a bit confused about that whole cup thing. I bought a digital scale so just been throwing the veggies on it and weighing and then going to fitday to figure out the net carbs. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so when I was doing the measuring cup I felt like I didn't know exactly how much I was eating.
BTW, love your pics, you look fantastic!

          Weighing is fine.

Did you measure your vegetables in the raw state and then cook them? In particular, the spinach ... was it 1 cup after it was cooked or was it 1 cup raw and then cooked?

Doesn't seem like very much food.

          What kind of lettuce?

Measured the spinach before cooking. And the lettuce was Romaine. Everythng I ate raw except the spinach. Anyone know how many ounces would equal 2 cups for the raw veggies? What other veggies are more dense? I was thinking it had to be the very colorful ones? Are all bell peppers considered the same? i.e. Red, green, yellow, orange....or do they have different carb values. only could find yellow on fitday. I feel like I'm within the rules of induction, but still a little scared to go over. Guess I need to think about it more. I'll add more veggies tomorrow. I bought a little of everything.

              >>Anyone know how many ounces would equal 2 cups for the raw veggies?>>

It depends on the vegetable. Different vegetables weigh different amounts.

              >>Are all bell peppers considered the same?>>

              No.

They're on Fitday ... if you search for "green pepper" you'll find: pepper, sweet, green, raw; if you search for "red pepper", you'll find: pepper, sweet, red, raw.

Are you in the United States?

atkinsgal....duh! That was a stupid question i asked. Of course, they weigh different amounts. Good to know about the peppers, I eat them all the time. Yes I am in the U.S. ...I think sometimes I over analyze things but I just want to be correct....Cin

NO question is stupid ... it's only stupid if you don't ask it!

I would make sure you're getting "most" of your daily net carbs (as close to 20 net as possible) from Induction vegetables.

                  And ... relax!

I tend to measure instead of using cups, because I'm relatively cooking-stupid, and I find measuring easier.

                      you are doing great.

was that enough food today to satisfy your hunger each time you ate? if so then regardless of how many total cals or carbs it is it was right for you today. tomorrow you maybe hungrier and want more food. If after a few days you seem to be eating smaller and smaller amounts and are not hungry then it is time to make a forced change to get your cals up, but one day will not harm you in any way.

did you make a souffle with your cream eggs and spinach? if so bet it was yummy.

all peppers are legal hot and/or sweet but the carb counts are different for each. I was shocked at how high the carb count was for roasted red peppers when I was doing induction.

Since you were cooking that spinach in the morning, I'd go ahead and add other chopped veggies you have on hand. Most mornings I saute some combination of spinach, onion, mushrooms and red bell peppers, depending what I have on hand. At night, I'd also add a veg sautéed in garlic, butter and olive oil - maybe red cabbage or eggplant since you've got a good bit of green veg represented. If you eat a good variety of veg like you're doing and don't go over 20g net for the day, you're fine - don't stress out about the cups.

(Unless you're here because you gained most of your weight eating spinach and tomatoes. Then you have free reign to stress out as much as you like.)

Yeah! I am finding that this WOE is stressing me out. I think it's because I'm in the beginning stages and it's new. I was only a little hungry last night ...I'll try adding a little more today and see if I can find a good balance. That's for the helpful info...it also helps my confidence! Cin
