  • will this work?

i am moving onto the second day of my journey and this is what i had planned. i welcome all tips and constructive criticism. i have read the atkins book and re-read the induction chapter over the weekend but i feel like i can never learn enough....

breakfast: 3 scrambled eggs with 1 cup chopped up pepper and onion. 2 slices of turkey bacon.

lunch: salad from the salad bar; 1 cup lettuce, onion, shredded cheddar, grilled chicken, peperoni, bacon bits and oil and vinegar.

dinner: 2 turkey burgers with 1 cup brocolli.

note: i am a guy. i am 6' 4" and weigh 380 lbs. looking to get down to 240.

One thing I would be careful of is the pepperoni and bacon bits. Both contain alot of salt and some brands have sugars in them. I know if I eat pepperoni it makes me stall.

Did you make the turkey burgers?

I would be careful of the grilled chicken from the salad bar ... it's likely been "plumped" with dextrose.

That doesn't seem like enough food for someone at your weight either.

How much water are you drinking?

I think your menu is looking pretty good
Remember to get enough fat with your foods and enough calories. Undereating will not help you on Atkins
Good job on getting your veggies down though.

wow. this is good to know. i read in the book where bacon bits and peperoni were allowed. this is definitely one part of the diet where i seem to struggle. i know neither of those things are good for you then i read in the book they are and then i come here and i find out maybe they aren't. i don't know what brand the bacon bits are but the peperoni is hormel. the label read 0 carbs but i didn't check anything else really. i will have to look at it tonight.
thanks so much for your advice. much appreciated!

no, i did not make the turkey burgers. they are shady farms brand. they come 4 patties to a package and i will throw them on the grill. a guy at the gym this morning was telling me on atkins i may be better off with regular lean beef hamburgers? any thoughts?
i never thought about that with the grilled chicken. man you guys are sharp! i was gonna have some tuna and then saw where someone said here it would likely have been prepared with sugar. so with my bacon bits, peperoni and grilled chicken being suspect it looks like i am going to have to come up with something different for lunch. the only problem is that i am at work right now and cannot prepare anything. any suggestions on how i can make it through lunch today with something i can buy out?
i drink a lot of water. even when i am not dieting. i took in over 100 ounces yesterday.

            thanks for the help!

It was the Hormel that got me I was eating a few pieces as a snack mid day. Couldn't figure out why I was fluctuating 2lbs. I gave up the pepperoni and poof the 2lbs stayed off. I think a lot of it is trial and error. What may work well for some does not work well for others. Sometimes the books says it is ok but some of us learn as we go that certain foods do not agree with us like they do with other people.

what sucks for me is trial and error is hard. i am too heavy to weigh in at my gym. the scale only goes to 350. so i weigh in here at work on a big heavy industrial scale in the factory. the problem is that i don't weigh in every day at the same time and every day my clothes are different. once i can get down to under the 350 mark and use the scale at the gym trial and error will be much easier.

what did you replace the peperoni with? i am thinking maybe some crab meat....

                  Re: will this work?

I started roasting a turkey breast then cutting it into slices and also pieces. I snack on the turkey meat dipped in mayo.

Make sure you're getting enough fat in, either by using butter or olive oil if you're eating mostly lean meats or by consuming less lean meats (beef, pork).

Really great job on getting those veggies in! Usually have to prod people on that.

You may want to plug what you're eating into Fitday to see how it's looking with quantities, fat amount, etc. I found that helped me alot during Induction to make sure I'm getting sufficient fat and calories in. I still use it daily.
