  • new to atkins- Pics!

    Hi there,
I am officially starting Atkins on Sunday- My husband's 27th birthday is tomorrow and I want to enjoy one last piece of rich cake before I embark on my weight loss journey for the last time in my life.

I have always been a big girl- and I mean always ( weight problems started when I was 8 yrs old). In grade 11/12 I developed an eating disorder and lost about 51 pounds in 1 year- I snapped out of my destructive behaviour and managed to develop healthier eating habits. When I reached my 20's- the stress of trying to live on my own and make something of myself combined with birth control hormones, caused me to gain weight again- I reached 220lbs again at the age of 23- I needed to do something.

Prior to becoming pregnant last year- I was 30lbs away from my goal weight and had been loosly following the South Beach Diet for about a year and a bit.

I had my first child 7 months ago and gained 65 pounds during my pregnancy. I managed to gain another 30 after he was born, due to stress and generally just eating when I got a chance- not making the best decisions all the time.

Right now I weigh 296 and my blood pressure is 160/90 (I am very highstrung-luckily my son is helping me with that). My doctor is fully on board with me making the jump into a new "weigh" of life and eating! My current eating habit aren't that bad- it's just the sugar junkie that creeps up on me everyday!

MY best friend is currently on Atkins for the second time -she stopped while pregnant and gained all the weight back- she had previously lost 80lbs! So has my Aunt- so I know that if you stick with it-it works magic!!! My husband is fully committed to cooking me gourmet Atkins food (he's a chef)- so I am pretty set, as long as I can stay away from sugar. I have spent the last week gradually decreasing the amount of bread and fruit I consume and have been staying clear of sugar. I am so ready for this it's not funny.

I welcome any tips and would love to hear your stories too!

    Thanks...

these are recent pis of me- taken in in the last month, as well as today.

I have posted again with pics of me before my massive gain and during my last month of my pregnancy- I gave birth to a 10 pound baby boy who was 21 inches long!! No wonder I was so big!

Re: new to atkins- no photos yet

Your story sounds familiar, I have the same struggles. Pregnancy weight and the
sweets issue. I wanted to wish you good luck on your journey. This site is really something. I get so inspired by the photos and stories/posts. I have really struggled with this weight loss thing. I do know that Atkins works with hard work and determination> Water and excersise seem to be key also. Atkins is really a way of life. That is one thing I always get nervous about when I read that people have lost weight only to gain it back. But I realized that Atkins is a lifestyle not a temp weight loss solution. Of course if you lose the weight on Atkins and then start eating the things that made you overweight in the first place, the weight and more will come back on. I have started to make mini goals for myself. I realize I have about approx. 100 pounds to lose. I am 230 and my goal is 130-140. I kept messing up the past several months on Atkins because I felt so much pressure on myself to lose "100" pounds that I felt I couldn't do it... Try to make mini goals that you really can achieve and keep setting them. If you ever wonna chat, I am here along with the rest of them.

    Take care,

    Angela

Re: new to atkins- no photos yet

thank you so much for your words of support Angela.

I have noticed just from reading people's posts that a lot set the mini goals.

I have set mine in 15 pound increments after the first 10 I lose- I think that this is reasonable. I also think that it is reasonable for me to be able to lose all the weight in about a year and a half or so. I have a total of 131 pounds to lose-it seems so odd to say this, but even though the weight depresses me- it is here because I grew a baby and put his needs first, before mine and now that he doesn't rely on my body to feed him, I can rid myself of the baggage I am carrying around my body. Luckily I am very tall and the weight is evenly distributed.

I am also lucky that I have a friend that is currently in OWL and is now a size 16- her success being so close to me, will motivate me even more.

I can't wait to share some before and after pics with you all!

thank you for your support Jimmie. I really enjoyed being pregnant and believe it or not, I was pretty active, despite my size. My baby was very healthy and absolutely perfect- mom just really loved her chocolate milkshakes... :0)

Hey, I just wanted to say that you can still have cake... and eat it too... it's just a low-carb version. Really, once you break the sweets addiction, some of the regular things in life will seem much sweeter, and there are a *ton* of recipes out there that mimic high-sugar recipes pretty well.

Hi There! What a pretty belly picture! My last baby, my son, was 10lbs and 23 inches long so I feel your pain! Today also marks day 6 for me, but this is my 2nd time doing Atkins. I did it strictly a few years back, and lost almost 80lbs, however, I've since gained that all back, and then some. I too feel a great difference already, and I love it! Keep up the great work!

                    thanks!
Congratulations on day 6 as well!!!! I feel tremendous! I almost don't even feel like I weigh as much as I do. My skin seems to be clearing up too...so I bet that I have a bit of a sensitivity to wheat or gluten. Can't wait to follow along with your progress- if you need a buddy, let me know- we're right on par with each other...

If you haven't joined any fitness challenges or started exercising, I sincerely urge you to start! Even the smallest amount of activity feels so good- I used to be moderately active (active enough to maintain my lower weight) and then during my pregnancy I just got so lazy and hungry! I was still walking to and from work, but I took off a month early to rest....and rest I did...I didn't gain much more weight and I made sure I got an uphill walk everyday, but when I had him...I barely left the house for 4 months (feeding issues and general blues)

I see everyone being so active here that I just said- do what you can when you can- every day! You don't have to run a marathon...but you just might yet.

                    Good Luck!!
