  • How should I "ease" off Atkins for a camping trip?

So I have a camping trip coming up starting July 7th until July 10th. I really would like to take a short break from Atkins, then resume after I get back.

I know most of you would be strong enough... and will probably say "why not stay on Atkins THROUGH the trip?"... well, this is seriously the highlight of the year for me. It's with my boyfriend's family, and extended family and friends, I would like to enoy myself without a single worry... and it would be much too hard to eat low-carb on a camping trip with them (they are carb fanatics).

Anyway, that said, there is no way I can be convinced to stay on Atkins for those 4 whole days.

I thought I would give myself a week ahead of time to "ease" off Atkins so that my body won't freak out or anything. I also would like to avoid constipation and all those bad things.

Does anyone have a good idea or plan I should follow? Should I give myself more than a week, or less than a week?]

I am still re-inducting and haven't moved up the rungs yet. What I thought I should do is quickly move up the rungs within a week... so then I would still be eating healthy, and Atkins-like and wouldn't put my body into shock.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Enchanted :wave

I don't feel the need to lecture. I'm going to be direct and to the point.

You don't "ease" off of Atkins. You're either doing Atkins or you're not.

As far as the rungs go: they are there for us to determine where our CCLL is. If you do as you're talking about, you will not find your CCLL and therefore will not know how many carbs you can have and still lose. You also will not find out which of those foods will cause cravings and what ones you will probably not be able to have very often.

The problems you will have when you go back to eating carbs, even for a weekend, is you will experience stomach upsets and possibly diahhrea (sp). Your energy won't be the same and any problems you had before starting this WOL will come back.

Have a great time camping!! It's too bad they don't support your WOL.

That's why I was asking what you all think I should do. To avoid upset stomachs. I mean, don't you think it's better to go through the rungs of higher carbs quickly than to SUDDENLY eat high-carb? Sheesh. All I was asking...

I honestly do not know raisinette. Even some goalies get stomach upset over high carb items like bread so I honestly do not know if it's going to be possible to avoid the upset stomach.

I doubt if you'll find too many folk on an Atkins weight loss forum trying to help you ease off Atkins... even for a trip.
Keep doing what you're doing & you'll keep getting what you're getting!!!

Well, I'm pretty sure many people here have had a planned cheat. No one's perfect. The thing is, I'm gonna continue onto Atkins when I get back. Not too bad, right?

I'm not sure there's anyone here who would even try to convince you. It sounds like your mind is made up. Just remember....it will come at a price. If you're willing to endure that price, then go ahead and do what you're gonna do. Just don't blame us when you feel like crap!

I agree; you're either doing Atkins or you're not. No middle ground.

Alright. Since no one can give me constructive advice, even though I KNOW everyone here will have a cheat once in a while, we can just consider this topic closed.

                  Thanks anyway.

I'm not perfect, but I'll never be fat again. Not as long as I control what goes in my mouth. And I found a way to be thin and eat well and not feel deprived, I'm stickin to it.

I'm sorry if I came across rude. It certainly wasn't my intent.

The best advice I can give you is to start eating those foods that you will have a few days before the camping trip so that any problems you have will mostly be over by the trip date. Especially if you're going to be having sugary sweets. Those are brutal.

It looks like you are really close to goal so just be prepared for the setback. You will probably gain some pounds back and in my experience it has taken me up to 2 weeks to lose the weight I gained after a cheat. Sometimes that makes it frustrating and hard to get back on track and a lot of people never do.

I wouldn't "ease" into the cheat because that is just more days you aren't sticking to the diet and like the others said it won't help you not to feel yucky if that is what will happen. If you are going off for those 4 days then be good up until the point you go and start back up the second you leave. That way the damage is not prolonged even more.

                              Thanks I hope it works.
