I already posted about this in the extended induction section, but I want to hear from more people.

I'm doing Atkins the second time around. The first time, I lost inches and pounds fairly quickly.

In the last 3.5 weeks, I've lost 5.5 lbs. In the last week and a half, I have not lost any inches.

I am assuming that I am now going to be losing very, very slowly.

I want to make it clear that I am not thinking of quitting, not frantic, nor am I overly frustrated. I feel terrific, am working out about an hour a day or more (45 minutes minimum of cardio, plus alternative days upper and lower weight training), am happy and upbeat.

I simply want to get an idea of what to expect now that I have become one of those whose weight isn't dropping off fast.

So my question for those of you who are slow losers is: for you, how does the weight loss happen? Chunks periodically with nothing for a few weeks? More consistent losses every week but not much? Any ideas about why or what to do to speed it up?

I keep well below 20 carbs per day. Fat intake is about 68-70%. Doing the water thing. Calories are within 50 calories of my BMR per day.
    Started Atkins 2d time 6/20/05
    218/187/140
    Measuring every 2 weeks
As of 10/31/05, losta total of 56.75 inches!

    Finelly, Finelly, Finelly.

Are you sure you're not overanalyzing yourself?
Sometimes you just gotta let things go.
You're doing all the right things.
My only advice is once again look at OWL.
If you're happy then just keep doing what you're doing and eventually the pounds will come off. You're creating a new active lifestyle that doesn't include fat so eventually it will feel left out and go somewhere else.

Nope, not overanalyzing. I know I'm doing the right thing. I'm just curious about what slow loss is like, since the last time around was very different!

Curiosity is a good thing! So stop being patronizing!!!!!! I'm neither asking for reassurance or a reason to keep on keepin' on!

        Re: S-l-o-w

My weight loss slowed down when I hit what Fitday classifies as a 'healthy weight' (but still in the upper range of healthy). It also coincided with OWL. I still want to lose another three, or four kilos.

So now, my weight loss is very erratic... one week it's TOM, another week I may eat too much sodium, another week I travel so exercise less.... and my weight sometimes just goes up and down around the same level for ages. But, during this upping and downing, occasionally the scale hits a brand new low...which makes me feel great! Then it may go up again and yo-yo again....but eventually I know it'll drop to another new low. Every now and again I get rewarded by a little whooshie, and then the whole cycle starts up again, that little bit lower. Slow now, but I'm getting there.

Well, that's how it is for me lately.

Happy losing (slow or fast)! And, you're right, it's direction, not speed that counts!!

I think you are starting to put stress on yourself Finelly.
          Your body is
          a. Different from what it was last time - older, different shape, perhaps less 'fluffier' after having done Atkins before etc so will not act the same as it did before.
          b. Different from anyone else here so you cannot expect the same results as anyone else here.

Jut accept that if you are following induction by the book that you will succeed in your own body's sweet time and enjoy the ride.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

For me, personally, at OWL (around 40ish grams a day for me), I lose 1-3lbs a month. My losses have *never* been consistant; none of that 1-2lbs a week stuff for me since I dropped under 175lbs. <shrug> To speed it up? If I wanted to speed it up I'd cut carbs and calories- but I like my menu too much to sweat the small stuff I was never in this to lose weight fast - just once!

              I totally agree with Elizellen.

Unfortunately our bodies are not like computers that we can program into doing what we want when we want. Some people lose weight steadily, some slowly, some in 'whooshes' ... it matters not how it comes off, as long as you are following the PLAN as written, IT WILL COME OFF.

Are you taking any meds that may hinder your weight loss? Just curious. What about artificial sweeteners??

Be patient; do the right things (which you are already doing) and trust the genius behind it!! He knew what he was doing!

Progress isn't measured in weight loss alone; the fact that you are feeling great and upbeat is a wonderful thing! Sure beats feeling like a slug, huh?

                Re: S-l-o-w

Well ya know I already shared my body's weight loss routine with you in the other thread, but wanted to add this.

Just like clockwork, this is my week for the scale to move and it did - 4 lbs total! For those who didn't read my other response, NO, I do not lose this much every week. The scale only moves 1 week out of 4 for me.

Anyway, what I wanted to share was, when I put my new weight into my Fitday log, I noticed that since I started using Fitday on April 2nd, my total loss is 18 lbs and that it averaged out to 1.2 lbs per week. I had never thought of it that way!

                  Re: S-l-o-w

Ok, thanks for the reassurance, but I don't really need it! Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I'm just CURIOUS!

BECAUSE my body is different this time around, I'm INTERESTED in how this is going and will go!

That's all! I don't think it is overanalyzing or evaluating to be interested in what slow loss is like! I'm not second-guessing anything that I'm doing, because I know that long-term, it works, because right now I feel fantastic.

Maybe it's just because I'm a teacher....I like to collect info! lol

                      Re: S-l-o-w

I am so glad you wrote about this. It is a good reminder for me. I have been a little discouraged these last 2 weeks as not only did I not lose any, I gained 2 lbs. I think it is because I changed my workout to include weight training because I am following OWL to the letter and feel great.

Like someone else posted, I have slowed to a crawl weight loss since I entered my "healthy" weight zone, albeit the high end of the range.

Brook, thank you for your post. This is the LAST time I am losing weight too and it WILL come off as I continue to follow the program. I should post that on my bathroom mirror!

                      Good post, Finelly.
